I completely missed CM Punk’s WWF run, I have no idea what he’s all about, I know he’s highly regarded, so maybe this is where I can see what all the hype is about. My only concern is who will they match him up with that he can get a decent match out of in this organization? Same with me. I was no longer watching the WWE by the time Punk came along and know nothing about him or have ever seen a match.

I could always watch some of his matches on WWE Network. But I'm not, I'd rather watch classic 80s and 90s wrestling on there. I'll wait and see what he's like then. I've got the feeling I will prefer Daniel Bryan if he debuts. Not watched him either, I only know him though Fire Pro Returns!

Tbh, I've always thought that Punk was overrated af but I won't deny his appeal for certain people. He's an excellent talker who plays his character well and was fine in the ring. I thought he was good but not elite, best ever hype like some people were pushing.
His return to wrestling in a nascent major fed is tremendous and I hope that it does for wrestling what I and others hope it does (ie galvanize that other big TV fed to start caring again).
I'm still of the opinion that AEW is McMahon and Khan having a laugh at the expense of people who take the medium more seriously than anticipated but if it leads to having two entertaining feds with high production on TV every week, then have at it.
Personally, I'm not that invested in either at the moment. Fan of his though I am not (going back to ROH ftr), at least Punk's return was interesting. Now make it worthwhile.

A lot of the "cult-like worship" for the guy is because of *ONE* promo he cut during his time with WWE. Keep in mind that the famous "pipebomb" promo is a work. Also realize that a lot of the IWC thinks this is legit; It's not. They use it to criticize the WWE. The whole thing is completely ironic to me. It's borderline satire.
I'm not a fan of his, even going back to the ROH days. He's a C+ talker. A C+ wrestler. I'll be real crass here and say he's a bootleg KENTA. He's an angry-white-boy-straight-edge KENTA. That's it. I've never found him entertaining in the slightest. He's not annoying and obnoxious like the Elite are (thank fuck for that), so there's something, I suppose.
If people like him, fine, whatever. I still think the grandiose worship for the guy is absolutely mental, but the AEW marks do that for every newly acquired talent, so nothing is really a surprise.

I was more of a Joe fan circa early 2000s but I have pretty much followed Punk since the days of the Second City Saints. That said, I really don't have any desire to see him in his current state trying to find his smile again.
The other major rumor I honestly have been uncomfortable with their return to action.

It really does feel like WCW: Millennials Edition now. Sigh. you have a dean malenko avatar Yes. The irony is not lost on me I assure you. Also, great to see you around SB! In the time I posted that I've decided to give AEW another chance because I realized it was a very cynical response. I can't wait for AEW to introduce trios titles. Give me six-man tag mayhem Tony! Edit: Watched ALL OUT last night and it's amazing how a well booked wrestling show reaffirms your love for the sport. What an incredibly fun and satisfying show. My three MOTN: 3. Miro vs Kingston - Awesome physical opener 2. THAT TAG TITLE CAGE MATCH 1. Punk vs Allin - What an amazing comeback match for Punk and a star making match for Darby Allin. Oh and I marked out BIG TIME when Sting and Punk shook hands afterwards. Such a great moment. I enjoyed everything on the show (skipped Big Slow/QT lol) and have to say that Tony Khan is a madman for booking that double debut after Cage/Omega II. I really hope they do a rubber match because watching Christian work his ass off at this point in his career is great to see.

Looks like AEW will be creating a new tournament named after Owen Hart.
EDIT: Owen to be included in the upcoming AEW game as well.

So yeah I've been to a few AEW shows. Most recently I was at AEW Double or Nothing this year, and it was the hottest live show I've ever been to. Had EXCELLENT seats close to the ring and got to meet Hangman. He signed an action figure box and because I lost my clothes on the way to Florida, they hooked me up with some free shirts. Met Thunder Rosa and she was cool as fuck, hung out with Schiavone for a bit and got him to sign the Butts in Seats preview comic as well as an old WCW program I had. Showed Kingston a vintage AJPW tour program and he flipped the fuck out. He told me he wanted to keep it but HELL NAH that shit has a Misawa pullout poster in it. SORRY EDDIE! Met a bunch of others but they were brief and mostly uneventful. Best part of the PPV was leaving to take a leak right when Cody's match started and I went to buy some drinks and everyone in the line was talking shit about Cody and then by the time I got back to my seats the match was over lol. I don't love everything AEW does but compared to WWE, it's the only time I've been able to be excited about weekly American rasslin since 95-99 before WCW and ECW went under.

That's really cool that you got to go to some shows and meet some wrestlers!
I got really into AEW the past few months and it's an incredible feeling to once again, after like 10 years, look forward to pro wrestling each week! I didn't know if I'd ever have that feeling again.
I had given AEW a try when Dynamite first debuted but it wasn't quite doing it for me. At first I liked it but then after a month or two I just felt like I was watching it to watch it so. However, I started watching it again after all the big signings in the Fall and it just really resonated with me for the past few months. The quality of TV matches is much higher than what I expected. I'm into the characters: new and returning. And I just like the unique mix of "super serious strong style" and "super goofy entertainment" that they manage to pull off, sometimes even in the same match.
The promos are just so f'n natural too. That CM Punk/Eddie Kingston one was phenomenal.
I do wish I had stuck it out last year though so I could have seen Adam Page's full story arc.
Same here for the most part. There are some misses but far more hits and on a grander scale. The last time I was really into pro wrestling was during Danielson's run to the WM main event. The last time I was this into pro wrestling was probably during the Smackdown renaissance era of 2002-2005.
Oh and I love how many judo moves and submissions we've been seeing recently 👏

I found All Out slightly disappointing to be honest.
Also I find CM Punk very bland. As a lapsed fan, has he always been a bit boring is it just me. I could always look at parts of his WWE career as I've got the Network.

I missed Punk's heyday and I don't really see what's great about him. Also all the drama he's stirring over there and just ask the other drama behind the scenes makes me not care about AEW.

I try watching AEW with an open mind, I’ve enjoyed watching Brian Danielson, totally missed his WWF/ROH runs, FTR are great, I think I caught their last match as the Revival, so I missed the cup of coffee they had in WWE as well. Thunder Rosa, MJF, and a few others have been very pleasant surprises. The rest is a bit too all over the place, there are some good matches, but it all feels a bit unguided. Not a fan of garbage matches at all, or the majority of the Joshi stuff they’ve shown, and you can keep orange casidy (who does he have blackmail pics of?!?), Jericho is past his expiry date, and I’ve never understood the appeal of Moxley, but there are a few up and comers that have been interesting.
Watching their show, for me, feels like me turning on FPW World. I just sim a bunch of random shit with edits I’ve downloaded depending on my fleeting and quick to derail train of thought, lots of “oh, I wonder how a match featuring x and y would turn out?”, that kind of thing. The show feels a lot like that, I’ve got all of these guys, let’s just smash em together and see what happens, then change everything the next week. I find there’s nothing grabbing me saying that I need to watch the show next week to find out the outcome or anything. I’m still holding out hope it gets focused and interesting, in the meantime, I’ll keep checking stuff out and catching good matches from time to time.
