Every September now we get hit with a hurricane. Hurricane warning in effect for us for Friday and Saturday. At least I’ll be at home.

So far it's been pretty average, some wind and rain, but no stories of flooding or power outages in my area. May make it through a September without losing power for half a week for the first time in four years.
One power flicker so far, only enough to make my external HD's turn off and on again.

I've missed discussing the weather with you guys these past few months.
But the less said about this past summer, the better. F'n revelations shit.
I hope hurricane season is as mild as possible.
I hear it's gonna be a bitterly cold winter though.

Took the AC out of the window today and put the electric blanket on the bed. We got our winter load of pellets for our pellet stove two weeks ago that I stacked and loaded into the basement. Stove gets its yearly servicing October 5th. Still beats the chopping, splitting and then loading wood we had been doing for years. Although winter tires won’t go on until between mid November to early December.
Aside from blanketing up a few windows that’s my winter prep work done. Won’t be long before I’m scraping the car windows in the morning.

So it begins, we’re at 0 C, and snow is already falling in the southern part of the province (Calgary area, could be up to 15 cm, up to 5 cm further north where I am). It won’t likely stay for now, but soon it will cool off enough for it to stick around. Good news is, it should all melt by may of next year 🤣

Good news is, it should all melt by may of next year 🤣 The bad news is that a blizzard will actually blow may into 2025 😔

When I was a kid I remember getting snow through October and November. Now we usually don’t get it until December. I usually get my snow tires put on late November. They say we’re supposed to get more snow than usual this year so I will be plotting my winter vacation accordingly.

Weather says we might actually see flurries before the end of the month. Getting lots of rain. When we had a break in the rain I actually got up on the roof to do some sealing because I have a leak in my bedroom that literally drips down on my computer desk right next to my computer so I always have to leave some towels there in case it rains when I am at work. First round of sealing accomplished nothing so now I think the water may be coming in around the chimney flashing which is fairly common if anyone has a chimney knows. Supposed to rain tonight but I will be at work so if the towels are wet when I get home I still didn't find the leak.

Wow, first snow in over a month. There’s not much, but there’s finally some falling. I don’t remember a fall/winter with so little/no snow at all. I’m not one to want a shit ton of snow (driving has been awesome so far this winter!!!), but we do need some moisture. I foresee another wonderful spring and summer of smoke and fires if it doesn’t start dumping on us soon 🤮

I'll take the sleet and snow now if it means less fires in Spring/Summer!
Not a fan of the huge 30 degree temperature swings from day to day though 🥶🥵

Starting this week we're going from winter weather to spring temperatures. By the end of Monday all our snow will be gone.

I'm moving in the opposite direction, LOL. We had a few nice days of consistent weather in the 50's with no huge temperature swings. The high even got up to 60 degrees F on Sunday! But it was a tease. It got colder tonight and the low is gonna be dropping into the mid 20's tomorrow night. I honestly don't even mind the cold as long as it just stays in the same 10-15 degree temperature range. I hate the wild swings. Just let me prepare for the cold consistently and live amongst the sweatshirts.

Massive wind storm last night. We got lucky. Power only flickered but we did lose internet, literally just got it back this minute. A lot of the net lines are down and power still out on places. Driving to the convenience store someones fiber op line was dangling so low that it rubbed across the top of my car when I drove under it.
Decades ago we actually planted trees all along the perimeter of our property to act as a wind break as our old farmhouse used to get pummeled by high winds. Turns out it has paid off pretty well over the years now that these trees have grown full size. Did a property check this morning to see if anything was damaged or any trees blown down and it seems like we got lucky.
It's +10 and warm now, although we have a weather warning for a snow storm on the 21st which would be my last day of work before Christmas break. So depending on what that weather front does I may end up calling in the last shift of the year.

Winter has officially arrived. After a mild, fall like beginning (temps well above zero with negligible amounts of snow), we got a decent dump of snow (15-20 cm over a couple of days), followed by a rapid decent to -40 C (-40 F, where those wonderful units of measurement meet… windchill not included). Apparently it’s going to somehow get COLDER tonight, I assume stopping even Brownian Motion in the process. Some outlying areas got down to the high minus forties (a friend sent a pic from his dashboard this morning at -47 C), so if it gets much colder, we’ll get to Plutonian records. I feel bad for our very large homeless population, the underground rail transit stations are usually opened up for them to stay warm, but still. Hopefully it’s warmer wherever you guys are (what am I saying, of course it is!).
