Shamelessly stolen from that online encyclopedia
New Japan is one of the oldest promotions in Japan. Antonio Inoki made it famous with his "strong style" approach to wrestling, derived from training from the legendary catch wrestler Karl Gotch and Inoki's own martial arts background. The promotion has featured legends like Masa Saito, Animal Hamaguchi, and Dynamite Kid. New Japan hit a low point in the 2000s as Inoki tried to bring in MMA fighters to fight his wrestlers to little success, and even major embarrassment when Brock Lesnar ran off with the IWGP Heavyweight title. After Inoki's removal behind the scenes, however, the latter 2000s saw the emergence of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura as amazing talents. But the real renaissance started around 2012 with the arrival of "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada. Oozing charisma as a sensational heel, Okada helped bring New Japan and puroresu to new heights in Japan but also the United States. This latter expansion was helped by the formation of the Bullet Club, a stable of (initially) all gaijin wrestlers led by AJ Styles. After Styles left for the WWE, Kenny Omega took his place, and is now arguably the most popular non-Japanese wrestler in Japan in Japanese history!
Talk about everything New Japan here!

G1 spoilers: How 'bout that star-making performance Jay White has been having? I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the guy originally, but the match with Juice Robinson in San Francisco made me a believer.

Tama Tonga's Journey in G1 Climax 28 has been great so far! I can't wait to see him face Kenny Omega again! :D

Not spoiling on the matches themselves, but i'm impressed the G1 seems to push Jay White character into his most heelish version.
And wow they are really getting Okada showing up as a "i don't give a frack anymore" guy , the change of character attire and hairs coupled with his remixed theme and with his behaviour during the entrance in which he looked so drunk he was going to fall at anytime, he's really playing his now depressed character to its fullest.
An interesting start to his future redemption arc, with his character currently being unable to cope with his title loss. Wonder when njpw will have him back to the title, probably after the next Wrestle Kingdom as i don't see him having a short recovery time, it will allow for new championship contenders running after Omega's title.

I get the impression that Okada's cold streak and current easy-going, silly attitude will continue until someone finally pushes him to get serious again... And they'll probably regret it, because once he does get serious, he's going to be mad as hell and not the same cool, controlled Rainmaker he was for the past 2 years.
It's not the first time he went on a losing streak after losing the title, back in 2015-ish he was losing to Bad Luck Fale over and over! That was more Sadboy Okada than... whatever it is we have now.

He needs Toru Yano for inspiration ! :D Speaking about the true ace of Japan, anyone watched Yano match with Ishii in the night 2 of the G1 ? I was still laughing at his "Seriously Serious !" announcement ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQe2RMx0ccM ) before the event but i never expected to really see a seriously serious Toru Yano , even if he couldn't keep himself out of his old ways completely :D It was a really fun match, Yano and Ishii had great chemistry in this one.

I have YOSHI-HASHI and Toru Yano in the finals of the G1. It's the only realistic result.

Inverted reverse... so regular? Upside down backwards. Got you guys covered: Also, I'd like to think that an upgraded "Rainmaker" would be called "Torrential Pain". Too late Okada, I'm taking that move name for my edit Matt Rivers (he used to be a weatherman)

For reference I am basing this off the fact that prior to winning New Japan Cup, Zack Sabre Jr was very clearly promoted over all the rest of the entries with TAKA having a promo for him seemingly every show.
When you combine the G1 record thus far for Jay White, along with the fact he's been openly stating he's going to be taking over CHAOS, I can't help but feel he's got a really strong chance of being this year's G1 Climax winner.

I would definetly say "No". Why? He just won his first two matches and Gedo love his "redemption" storylines too much. I think EVIL will spoil him on the last day, that's why that's the semi main event.
I picked Tanahashi over Okada at the "pick ems" on Voices of Wrestling, but i think Gedo will book Okada to the finals. He may lost to Hangman Page, but he will get his first victory against Makabe and then win every single match.
