Came across this image from raw. Not sure who that svelte fella is in the Charlie Brown pumpkin king costume, but someone needs to make an edit of him in FPW asap! š That would be Otis. He's fun when used correctly. This is right before he got RKO'd by Matt Riddle

I watched Crown Jewel.
It was ok. I did have issue with some things. The match between Bayley and Bianca was meh. They are talented and the "Last Woman Standing" stipulation I think actually hindered them.
While I respect Logan Paul's acrobatic ability, the wrestling purist in me was left shaking my head.
I will say this...I think Dominik Mysterio needs to go to Mexico City and train with CMLL, then come back to WWE. Logan Paul is already ahead of Dominik.

Smackdown happened to be on the other day coinciding with a bit of downtime, so I decided to give it a try for the first time in a very long time. The new titantron is amazing! The Imperiumās entrance (and holy shit, Walter has dropped a shit ton of weight!) was pretty incredible with that giant floor to nearly ceiling screen and graphics behind them. Pretty cool stuff.
I donāt know if itās my lack of familiarity with the roster, but the matches were pretty blah. The guys are HUGE relative to most of the AEW roster, and crazy athletic for their size, but, try as I might, i couldnāt get into them. Too much mic time as well, blah blah blah. And when did the belts start looking like props from paw patrol? The old ones are gaudy, but they at least look like belts, and have some history attached to them.
Maybe Iāll give it a try again in a few years š

Welp, WWE did it again. I thought HHH was supposed to be in charge?
Night 1 was awesome, every match delivered and the right people went over in every match.
Night 2 was a complete reversal. The matches were generally excellent (this might be the best Mania ever in terms of pure match quality), but the wrong people won every match that mattered (except Gunther).
Asuka absolutely should have beaten Bianca - Bianca is stale as champ, there's more interest/money in the chase than in the actual reign, Asuka has a history of being treated awfully at Mania, etc. It's a shame the build for this match was so weak, both women deserved better. She's 3-0 and WWE is already making a big deal about Bianca's wrestlemania streak. Bleah. Don't care....and I really like Bianca Belair.
Balor absolutely should have beaten Edge - Balor is the head of the cool heel faction they are trying to get over, and Edge has gotten the better of them constantly in this feud. This was the time for Finn to remind everyone that The Demon character is unstoppable, and that youth is the future over legends and nostalgia.
Cody absolutely should have beaten Roman - WWE stumbled into the perfect story with Cody, a year long build and everything pointed to Cody finally reaching the top of the mountain and ending the infuriatingly long run of Roman. The Wrestlemania main event is 100% the place for Cody to win the big one...all the stars were aligned perfectly. Even if he pins Roman clean in 30 seconds on Raw or Backlash or Summerslam or whatever, it won't be as big of a deal and people won't care as much.
Baffling booking decisions. Utterly baffling and completely deflating. Why did I watch 8 hours of wrestling over 2 nights just to see more of the same in the main event? This was THE MOMENT and WWE blew it. For what? So Roman could hit his 1000 day milestone and sell some merch? Infuriating.
Once again WWE had lightning in a bottle and pissed it away. HHH says that the story continues, and chapters end and we start new chapters etc....Wrestlemania is supposed to be the place where you pay off all the big angles and feuds from the year. Call it a story, or a chapter of a bigger story, whatever, Cody winning at 'mania was the only thing that made sense.
WWE is traditionally a company that centers around a babyface champion slaying monsters one after another. Hogan did it, Austin and Rock did it, Cena did it. They tried to force Roman into that mold for years and failed miserably. They had the perfect workshorse babyface to carry the company on his back and they chose to extend the 3 year reign of a part time heel champion instead.
Like I said, baffling.

Codyā¦. Lost?! š³ Edit: whatās with the McMahon familyās weak ass quad genetics?! š They tried to force Roman into that mold for years and failed miserably.Ā They had the perfect workshorse babyface to carry the company on his back and they chose to extend the 3 year reign of a part time heel champion instead.
Like I said, baffling.
Part time, exactly. Well, they put a friggin YouTube āstarā in the biggest show of the year, so ālogicā is just another word to these folks. Itās all incredibly confusing.

Yep.
Shane was too blown up to even speak after running down that long ass ramp, no surprise he hurt himself doing a simple leapfrog.

Triple H is just reading the company line but you absolutely fucking know that WM Night 2 and the entirety of RAW were designed by Vince
Why won't he just fuck off permanently?

Do yourselves a favor and seek out Chad Gable vs Gunther for the IC Title from this week's RAW. Easily one of the best WWE TV matches I've seen in a long time and would've missed it if I hadn't heard the buzz about it online.
Great hard-hitting match.

Iāve been listening to Cornetteās podcasts for years now, I love the old stories and any info/insight I can get on the territory days and their workings, and the history of pro wrestling in general. My tolerance for Cornetteās rundowns of the various current pro wrestling offerings has dwindled only because I donāt have a horse in the race, I find both WWE and AEW pretty much unwatchable, so I find myself fast forwarding through most of the show reviews.
I do listen from time to time still, and, as embarrassing as this is, after all these years, it finally dawned on me who āShaky Nakamuraā isā¦ Iād always wondered āwho the hell is Cornette talking aboutā when heād start railing on about olā shaky, then just this week, I put it all togetherā¦ Shinsuke Nakamura!
I couldnāt stop laughing, I remember reading about how spectacular Nakamura was in years past, searching out his matches and wondering what the big deal was? Red leather, all the odd, jerky motions, the whole rope holding back bend thing, and a steady stream of running knees. I found him to be really off putting and spastic, and just decided he wasnāt for me and I must just not āget itā. Once I realized who shaky was, at least I realized I wasnāt the only one who saw him that way. I Was also surprised he was still active, and had no idea he was even in the WWE! š¬

It seems like the new age 3 Musketeers (Nak, Tanahashi and Shibata) will always have that "but couldn't they have been... ....more?" aura 20ish years later.

The thing about charisma is that it isn't actually universal. Sometimes a dude just doesn't work for someone. Nakamura always had an incredible aura to me but I've definitely talked to people who just don't see it. Meanwhile, I've never really "gotten" Tanahashi's charisma, even though he's obviously really good at what he does.

Tanahashi was another one I never did get. Even in his prime, he just never did it for me. Iām not sure if itās just a matter of how the hell do you follow an act that included Mutoh/Muta, Hashimoto, Chono (Toukon Sanjush), throw Lyger and the rest of a pretty deep roster into the mix, and everyone comes out pretty vanilla. No fault of their own, and they kept NJPW afloat after the three musketeers, but, for me at least, the magic was gone in Tanahashiās era.
Shibata was the one guy I did want to see more of and that I felt like was the future. I did enjoy everything of his I managed to see, but going to a racetrack to see one horse run around the track, if thereās no one to race against, whatās the point? It sucked that he didnāt have any really legendary rivals that the older generations roster depth could have provided. Oh well, he still managed to have some bangers, Iāll just try not to watch any of his most recent stuff and keep his legendary bad assery fresh in my mind. š

After not watching WWE since Wrestlemania (good job putting Roman over Cody), I checked out the Rumble. I watched the Women's Rumble live, decided to get a good night's sleep, and then I watched the Men's Rumble earlier this morning. Jade and Grace were stand-outs.
I skipped the fatal four way because Roman was gonna win (snooze), and while Logan Paul is a great acrobat and fits in WWE style, he is just insufferable and I don't want to watch his spot fests.
The reason I watched the Men's Rumble was to see if Punk or Cody would win. Thankfully Cody won. I am no Punk hater like AEW stans, but Punk didn't need to win. He has a match against Rollins at Wrestlemania lined up for the title, and I hope he wins then to fulfill his dream. They better have Cody go over Roman. Save Roman vs Rock for Crown Jewerl. The Saudis will probably give the Rock a huge ovation.
