Started playing again this weekend since a friend picked up the Online component (RDO is standalone now) while it's on sale. I was finally able to unlock the Bounty Hunter job yesterday and ended up running them for most of the night. I discovered I could give my character pink ribbons in her hair, so *of course* I did - If you know me, I do this in every game I can, lol. Gonna get me a matching corset to go along with the rest of the outfit because you can't fight crime (or lawmen) if you ain't cute!

Got my corset last night, so now I'm more cute, lol. I ran into a guy that just started playing the game. I had just finished up maxing out my HP stat and made a run to the Butcher in Strawberry to trade my fish for cash. I parked next to the Butcher and the guy comes over to me, takes a look around (as if I was AFK), then yanks me off my horse. He jumps on my horse and gets about two feet away from me before I pull out my shotgun and cap his stupid ass. So, before he so rudely interrupted me, I was selling my fish, right? I sell my fish, and then the same guy waits until I'm in the Catalogue menu to buy some supplies to shoot me. Keeping in mind I have maxed HP at this point and it takes him at least 16 revolver rounds to kill me. I kill him again, and go on my way. Moral of the story? Don't kick me off my horse or I will ruin your day. Twice.

The takedown while on fire looked like Bison's psycho crusher 😁
Really like the online outfit, Dawn! 👍

I got back into this recently. I had been on the final chapter (not the Epilogues) for over a year and finally finished it this week. Thoughts on the last Chapter and Epilogue:
Even though I've known for a long time that Arthur was going to die, I was struck by how tragic it was. The final chapters were really grueling to go through with the dissolution of the gang. Dutch leaving Arthur and John to die was reprehensible as was his continued attempt to gaslight them. But that final showdown in their hideout was hard to watch. The game definitely evoked an emotional response in me because of how much I liked Arthur and many of the other characters as well as the way they told the story throughout the game.
It was a little jarring immediately switching to John. For years, ever since the end of Red Dead 1, I missed playing as him. But I really prefer Arthur and having the game go so quickly from Arthur's tragic but poetic death on the mountain to John bringing his family to Strawberry felt like it was too sudden a transition. After a mission or two, I settled into John's life at Pronghorn Ranch and have enjoyed the Part 1 of the Epilogue. I just met up with Sadie and am about to finish the last mission before Part 2. Still, as much as I enjoy this "retroactive nostalgia" from Red Dead 1, it feels weird not using Arthur. And watching John's family slowly fall apart (with at Abigail and Jack leaving Pronghorn) just felt really bitter. Even though the game canon moves ahead several years - it doesn't feel like that to me. To the player - Arthur just gave his life for John and now we're seeing the Marstons fall apart. I know tragedy and bad choices are a huge part of the theme of this series but it felt really abrupt to see Arthur's story end the way it did only for John's story to resume this way. I know things will get better in Part 2 of the Epilogue with building Beecher's Hope but the sudden transition left a bitter taste in my mouth. I realize that may have been intended. No one in this game really gets a happy ending.
Other thoughts: I'm really happy to have access to the Red Dead 1 map now!! That was one of the motivators for me getting back into the game. I like seeing how things looked years before Red Dead 1 too. It's cool seeing Blackwater get built and I had a very nice chat with the Scandinavian family building Manzanita Trading Post! One of them played harmonica for me in the pouring rain at night. Good times 😄
I wasn't expecting to have John milk a cow, shovel manure (for like 10 minutes), and build a fence at Pronghorn. It was kind of funny though and felt it actually achieved that "palate cleanser" from Arthur's playthrough that I wanted earlier in the Epilogue. Jack complaining that John got manure on him was pretty funny. And you could just feel John's impatience growing which led nicely to his fighting spirit coming out when he defended the ranch.
I don't know where Wondy is these days but I miss him and want to believe he's glued to the cow milking game 🐄
So yeah, I do regret not finishing this game sooner. But I'm having a lot of fun with it again now.

Last night, I saw something rather shocking happen for the first time. A storyline character looted a random NPC 😲 Slightly spoilery background: John is on his way to meet up with Sadie Adler in the Blackwater saloon. I'm about to hitch my horse when it decides to revert to Intellivision controller precision and accidentally "nudges" an NPC. The NPC flips out and starts to fight me. Apparently, this fight occurred close enough to where Sadie's location was that she actually comes out of the bar and watches like a regular NPC. This is a first, on its own, for me. I've never seen a storyline character, who I was supposed to meet on a mission, actually come out of their stipulated location prematurely. And I'm actually able to interact/talk with her while fending off the dumb NPC throwing haymakers at an angry Marston. I put the guy down for good and then...
Sadie walks right up to the guy's corpse and loots him 👏
I've never seen any NPC do that before, let alone a main character from the storyline.
It just fit so perfectly with Sadie's current stoic character and her bounty hunter storyline.
And that's how she continued becoming one of my favorite characters in the Red Dead world 🤠
"Mrs. Adler, you cold as ice." - Arthur's voice in my head.

I haven't played the game a whole lot in the last year, but hearing that RDO isn't getting any new updates is making me want to set up a private RedM server so me and some other friends can all play together.
RedM is a host program for unofficial Red Dead servers on PC. There's a few popular roleplaying servers, but I'm not really into that side of the game, but it's pretty neat nonetheless. One of the servers I've seen has incorporated farming and mining into the job roles that you can perform.
I wish I had the hard drive space for it because ~150GB of free space is *a lot* for one game.

Plus, I doubt RDR 2 would even run on my computer. I'm surprised that Sleeping Dogs does but at pretty low graphical settings. Still, I really like the idea of the mods for it. And I'd be into the farming mod, especially after the chapter I just finished now. I think one of my favorite moments in this game and entire series was watching John, Charles, and Uncle building the Marston household while that really fitting country song played. Watching Uncle try to do-si-do with Charles (who no-sold it) was hilarious. Still don't love the Marston family turmoil but watching John turn things around and really cultivate Beecher's Hope has been great.
