It took me 4 months to finish RDR 1 but it's gonna take my probably a year and a half to finish 2! I know that feel. I've been trying to split time between this and Breath of the Wild for almost the past year (and longer than that in BOTW's case). I feel like it's gonna be like ten years before I come up looking for another game to play. And my backlog of games I already own but have yet to play still includes Horizon Zero Dawn and Witcher 3 as well. Like, if I ever get through these, I'm gonna be ruined for other games. Although at least at this point, that'll be years from now lol. Glad I'm not the only one with a backlog. You haven't started Witcher 3? Be prepared for a few years experience with Witcher, it will suck you in like Skyrim...if you're a Skyrim fan.

Finally powered through the last chapter and epilogues, which were all amazing. I'll keep a save to play around in the end game with, while looking forward to starting a fresh game now that I finally got the story out of the way. It felt like it had been hanging over my head, having heard enough spoilers to generally know what was coming without the exact specifics. It was good to finally experience it all myself. They sure made a good game with a good story here.
In the meantime, I've spent a whole lot of time with my online character, and the new roles and all that have revitalized it lately. I've landed on an outfit and general aesthetic that I can't get enough of looking at while living in that world. And after almost 500 hours online, about to hit level 100. Which doesn't mean anything other than finally unlocking all available options for purchase far as clothing and accessories and whatnot. But also kinda cool, my boy's come a long way from [online story opening spoilers].

I've actually thought about doing the same thing- powering through the story just to experience, then walking it back without having to worry about the main path at all. The problem is as I try to work through the story I get distracted by side quests (that honestly, end up being the most interesting aspects of the world in my opinion) and my own wandering spirit that I look up and I've played for a couple hours and made no progress.
In short, I dont see myself "powering through" with any real speed. As a side note, online was killed for me when I couldn't set up a camp without moving my entire campsite. If I can't lone wander like in single player, there's really no appeal to using the online version unfortunately. Then again if I want to be left alone in the online world, my guess is I'm playing it wrong anyways haha.

Oh I did every side quest that I saw as part of my power through. Which is part of why it took a few days just to get through the last couple missions of the story plus epilgoues. It just keeps going and going. And I love it.

Is there a clear time where you can make that save before the point of no return? I know I'm nowhere near that point but I want to make sure I don't miss it. Very glad that you liked the ending and the final parts of the game!! 😎 In the meantime, I've spent a whole lot of time with my online character, and the new roles and all that have revitalized it lately. Maybe different hair patterns?[/quote]

I've had like two main outfits the whole time, the latest being a recent evolution. It's fun being able to have a bunch of variations for different area/climates, adding a coat here, a poncho there, an extra few layers off somewhere.

Honestly, you're better off making that save in chapter 2 or 3 or maybe 4. Interesting. Is that because I get to a point in Chapter 4 where I can't free roam anymore? Or just that I have more opportunities for side quests, etc in those chapters? I think I'm either in early Chapter 3 or 4. Done with the Hatfield/McCoy stand-in feud. We rescued Jack from Saint Denis and are now in a run down mansion a little bit outside Saint Denis. My main storylines are now in Saint Denis.
Turns out not a whole lot. I've had like two main outfits the whole time, the latest being a recent evolution. It's fun being able to have a bunch of variations for different area/climates, adding a coat here, a poncho there, an extra few layers off somewhere. Nuderponch = just a poncho, nothing else. Great for surprising people in the pouring rain 😁 I like having the variations of each regional attire too 😎 I tend to stick with like one main attire per storyline but will change in extreme climates.

Damn it geese, you're asking questions I don't know if I can answer without some form of spoilation. And I don't know how much or how particularly you've been spoilt as of now. But to just answer specifically, you can free roam right up until the end, and yes you'll know of any impending point of no return, and free roam again after the end. But I think it'd be more fun and would make more sense to have that earlier save for just free roam funnery, because you'll be more compelled to finish the story sooner than later the further into it you get. And not just because you want to see what happens next really bad, but other impetuses as well. Okay? You happy!? Now you have the dreaded EXPECTATIONS

And not just because you want to see what happens next really bad, but other impetuses as well. Okay? You happy!? Now you have the dreaded EXPECTATIONS Every day I will provide a photo for you with my progress and ask: "is this a save point?" to make sure I get it right. I want to avoid spoilation. I do not want to be spoiled about a game whose ending I already kinda know 😁 But seriously, I just want to make sure I have a nice safe, save point where I can free roam before I'm called to the greatest battle of Arthur's life - a battle in which I can only imagine a cougar will randomly kill me. The reason I want to make the save later is just so that more chapters will unlock more free roam possibilities. Granted, if I keep playing those possibilities, they will no longer be available to me! So maybe I should just stop my free roamin ways, gussy my horse up, and plow through the chapters. Then I can make a separate save point at the end of Chapter 4, finish the story, and free roam afterward. Can I still free roam after I finish the story too, like RDR 1? I kinda know there's a specific reason why I would want to save before the end though... RDR 2 ending spoilers as I understand dem: I think Arthur dies and we get to play as John. And that's very cool in many ways. I still maintain that playing as Jack was fun at the end of RDR 1 but I missed John. Therefore, it would be fun to play as John again after RDR 2 ends...but then I'd also miss Arthur!! So basically...I'm impossible to please 😁

Need to start my second playtrough. On my initial run I was powering through the story and loved every second of it. Now I would like to take a calm and more immersive approach. Starting first of all with no hud. It is a beautifull game and I hope no hud will help me to enjoy it even more. Going hunting way more often, drinking some coffee besides the camp fire, eating regularly. Somehow I feel I owe it to Arthur.

I think players could do only what you mentioned and not have a diminished experience with the game. I’ve barely scratched the surface (finished the train robbery at the start of the story), but the world felt like the most immersive one I’ve experienced in all my years of gaming. The world is alive, I remember seeing some random npc get kicked to death by a horse... I need to get back to this game.

And you are absolutely right the world is alive and full of so many and great details. And there is stuff I never even bothered with like robbing coaches, real hunting trips, doing stranger missions.

I start my playthrough on Friday and reached Valentine last night. I found a "chronological" mission guide and follow it whenever I feel the to progress the story. For example chapter 2 starts with picking up the pastor, than picking up Uncle and the lasses and ride into Valentine. Immediately followed by the bounty hunting introduction. To quote the guide "The best time to do it is early, almost right after you first visit Valentine, because at this point the gang has not caused any trouble in the area and thus, are not sought after by the law." Spend the money instanly to make Arthur look like the Pale Rider.
The "pale rider" horse was quite the tussle. Apparently there is a glitch for the Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter in Chapter II but I was unable to recreate it so I voted for the Dapple Dark Grey Hungarian Halfbred instead. Close enough.
