SWA TV 3/14/2020 SWA Openweight Championship MAIN EVENT: Tommy Powers vs. Samael Tangaroa (c)Pre-Match: As Tommy Powers makes his way down to the ring, Blaze jumps the guard rail and tackles him! Blaze rains down punches on Tommy before hitting a twisting flatliner. Raking a hand through his hair, Blaze perches himself at the very top of the entrance, and charges all the way down the ramp into Tommy with a huge spear!
Blaze picks Tommy up by the hair and drags him into the ring, as Samael's music finally hits and the End Boss casually makes his way down to the ring, an expression of grim satisfaction on his face. Blaze is gone as quickly as he appeared.
Samael turns to referee Toby Russel and demands he start the match. Toby tries to protest, but swiftly acquiesces when Samael grabs and lifts him by the throat, the hapless official's feet kicking uselessly in the air beneath him. youtu.be/yDTgpGkt3b0

It appears I might've spoke too soon. My boss called me up and set me up a bunch of shifts helping out with behind-the-scenes stuff that needs to get done whether we're open or not. I have yesterday's title match capped and ready to go, I'll be formally posting it when I get home from work today. That's great to hear! Please stay safe out there 😎 As for the match today: Damn, that was a brutal attack by Blaze! You gotta give it to Tommy Powers for competing at such a high level with Samael, of all people, after that attack. He even got some nice offense in - especially that leg cradle backdrop on the floor!! But Samael's victory was 'Thanosian' here.
I hope Samael gets punished for choke lifting Toby before the match started!
And there's gotta be repercussions for Blaze too!

As promised, here are some of my favorite matches from week 3 of the World Open. Things really started to come together in Week 3, with the picture of who has a chance of winning and who's getting left behind starting to become clear. Night 9: Armel St. Martin vs. Tony Castille: youtu.be/3cfHmEKyAuYNight 10: Kyle Sieras vs. Raye Groves: youtu.be/A1I9uLN_S4UNight 11: Kazuo Saji vs. Fabio Silva: youtu.be/phbG6Rt3Gf4Night 11: Armel St. Martin vs. El Halcon Loco, Jr.: youtu.be/4RdYxdGOL5UNight 12: VOLT Tsukuda vs. Power Eagle: youtu.be/fxCvjGq1jmgFull Results: Night 9
Jake Adair def. Kazuo Saji El Rey Dorado def. El Halcon Loco Jr Tony Castille def. Armel St. Martin Fabio Silva def. Charles Langford
Night 10 Paul Lambert def. Power Eagle El Hijo de Toxico def. Blaze Kyle Sieras def. Raye Groves Maki Yoshida def. VOLT Tsukuda
Night 11: Kazuo Saji def. Fabio Silva Tony Castille def. El Rey Dorado Armel St. Martin def. El Halcon Loco Jr. Charles Langford def. Jake Adair
Night 12: Paul Lambert def. Maki Yoshida Blaze def. Raye Groves Kyle Sieras def. El Hijo de Toxico VOLT Tsukuda def. Power Eagle Standings as of Night 12: A Block: Kazuo Saji 8pts El Rey Dorado 8pts Armel St. Martin 8pts Charles Langford 4pts Tony Castille 6pts Fabio Silva 4pts Jake Adair 4pts El Halcon Loco Jr 6pts B Block: Paul Lambert: 8pts Blaze: 4pts Kyle Sieras: 8pts VOLT Tsukuda: 6pts Raye Groves: 6pts Maki Yoshida: 4pts Power Eagle: 8 pts El Hijo de Toxico: 4pts My own thoughts as a fan: Both blocks still have a decent number of people alive. In A Block, Kazuo Saji, El Rey Dorado, and Armel St. Martin all have a clear path to victory. El Rey Dorado holds a win over Kazuo Saji, so if he and Kazuo both win on Night 13, El Rey goes forward, while Kazuo wants himself to win and El Rey to lose. Armel St. Martin, meanwhile, is in control of his own destiny. He holds a win over El Rey Dorado, so all he needs to do is beat Kazuo Saji, and regardless of El Rey winning or losing, Armel takes the block. Tony Castille and El Halcon Loco Jr. got sooo close, but with Kazuo Saji and Armel St. Martin facing each other in week 4, one of them will likely advance to 10 points. Tony Castille had a chance right until Night 11, but things just didn't break his way. Not a bad run for a mostly-retired color commentator. Fabio Silva, meanwhile, really laid an egg this year after being pretty dominant in 2018, and newcomer Jake Adair really failed to get out of the gates.
B Block holds up similarly, with Paul Lambert, Kyle Sieras, and Power Eagle alive. Power Eagle really surprised in this tournament, going 4-0 through his first 4 matches, but then he's stumbled this week, losing both of his matches on nights 10 and 12. He holds a win over Kyle Sieras, and lost to Paul Lambert, so if both Power Eagle and Kyle Sieras win their final matches, Power Eagle goes forward. Meanwhile, Paul Lambert and Kyle Sieras have both been looking steadily stronger, going from a 50-50 start at the end of Week 2, to sharing the top of the block with Power Eagle after Week 3. Paul Lambert, in particular, is notably in control of his own destiny; owning a win over Power Eagle means that if he wins his match on Night 14, it doesn't matter if Power Eagle wins or loses, Paul Lambert is going forward. VOLT Tsukuda and Raye Groves both got achingly close, but just couldn't put enough points together to be alive for the final night of block competition. For Raye Groves, this must be disappointing, but VOLT really impressed in his first World Open, showing off really impressive power for a junior heavyweight, and showing that he can hang with some of the best SWA has to offer. VOLT vs. Power Eagle was honestly the upset of the tournament for me. Maki Yoshida looked good in his matches, but couldn't put together the wins, while El Hijo de Toxico performed at the overall disappointing level he generally has in tournaments for a while. If he doesn't watch out, Toxxie might find himself without an invite to future World Opens.

Oh wow, I got a little behind. I meant to check out the Week 2 matches last week than got distracted 😜 But wow: Saji/Langford was HOT throughout (there's legit hatred between these two factions right now) and what a beautiful finish with so many nearfalls. I'm glad Charles got his "Royal Flush" finisher on but I think that taunt after got his head out of the game. Saji saw the opportunity and used it to reverse that body slam into what I thought was gonna be the pin. Big kickout by Charles but then wham that C2C CROTCH ROCKET got him 😁
We'll see if Charles can avenge this loss against Tetsu for Night 1 of the ubble league.
Also absolutely love that Armel beat both Fabio and El Rey!! Really nice finishes to both matches as well.
Even though it wasn't the finish, i didn't realize there was an apron to inside double knee stamp 😲
Will check out week 3 soon. Looking forward to it! 😎

Night 13 of the World Open happened on Friday, marking the end of A Block competition. Four fierce matches were on order, some with high stakes, and some at this point just for pride. Watch these ones in order and pay attention to the point totals. There's some high drama here. World Open Night 13: Fabio Silva(4) vs. El Halcon Loco Jr.(6): youtu.be/PX4X0RubmXITony Castille(6) vs. Jake Adair(4): youtu.be/BncgyUcoiZ4El Rey Dorado(8) vs. Charles Langford(4): youtu.be/45CeGkyxQnMMAIN EVENT: Kazuo Saji(8) vs. Armel St. Martin(8): youtu.be/JVOSJoSMwqEA Block FINAL Standings: Kazuo Saji 8pts
El Rey Dorado 8pts
Armel St. Martin 10pts
Charles Langford 6pts
Tony Castille 6pts
Fabio Silva 4pts
Jake Adair 6pts
El Halcon Loco Jr 8pts My thoughts as a fan: There were definitely some surprises at the end of the block. El Halcon Loco Jr. came out of the block looking really strong with a win over Fabio Silva, while Charles Langford played spoiler, shooting down El Rey Dorado's chance of advancement. I hear El Rey has sworn revenge. And that Main Event! Kazuo Saji got so close, but Armel was just a step ahead of him with that roll-up. Notably, it's not a hugely dominant win; I could see there still being unfinished business between these two in the future.

Week 3 impressions: I'm a week behind but that isn't so bad since I'm like 2-3 weeks behind on my own stuff 😁 HUGE win for Tony Castille! I love the slap -> swinging DDT priority too. Tony hit Armel with like everything. That reverse suplex was nasty as was the driver earlier in the match.
Saji/Silva - was concerned about Silva not just beating Saji, but hurting him. Sure as I say it, Fabio comes right out of the gates swinging for the fences with a nasty elbow attempt to Saji's face! Saji dodges it but damn, this really set the pace from the start. I bet most of the locker room liked watching Saji slap Silva right across the face though...twice in a row for that matter! The first few minutes of this match are beautiful. Such a great combination of counter striking and reversals of moves and momentum. These two have legit in-ring chemistry. I love the taunting strikes that Saji is landing between slaps and kicks to the butt. Silva finally lands one of those haymaker elbows and then starts punching the shit out oF Saji in the corner. Saji breaks one sequence but Silva finally lands that over the shoulder slam move into his running cocky elbow. Saji fires back with the "Shining Scrote" pin move (which I just allowed him to name for the first time now...instantly regretting it 😁) Wow, thought the cutter sealed it but Silva has a lot of fight in him. I love this next part: An exhausted Silva hits another back suplex but is not only too tired to follow-up the priority, but totally whiffs a (likely baited) dropkick. Saji then immediately hits the Sister Abigail!! That gets a rope break but Saji wins in super impressive fashion with the Slingblade! Wow what a match!!!
How's this for great league storytelling on your part:
So basically, a victory by Charles would actually be helping Saji!! That can't sit right with either of them!
Can't wait to watch the last round!!

And here it is, folks. The final night of block competition. Night 14, the B Block decided who it was sending forward to the World Open Finals. Some tense, fun match-ups and some surprises follow! World Open Night 14: Maki Yoshida(4) vs. El Hijo de Toxico(4): youtu.be/Cut46T9CqEwRaye Groves(6) vs. Power Eagle(8): youtu.be/zw567zPLRxQBlaze(4) vs. VOLT Tsukuda(6): youtu.be/R6BnKlwmlt8Paul Lambert(8) vs. Kyle Sieras(8): youtu.be/NkEz1TC9KRsB Block FINAL Standings: Paul Lambert: 10pts Blaze: 4pts Kyle Sieras: 8pts VOLT Tsukuda: 8pts Raye Groves: 8pts Maki Yoshida: 6pts Power Eagle: 8 pts El Hijo de Toxico: 4pts My thoughts as a fan: The Vanguard really came out in a big way in this tournament, not only did Paul Lambert conclusively show that he belonged in the upper echelon of SWA talent, but VOLT Tsukuda had one of the greatest runs of the tournament as well, upsetting larger, more experienced wrestlers to an impressive 8 point finish. Like Charles Langford for El Rey Dorado, Raye Groves played spoiler here for Power Eagle, killing his hopes of making it to the finals, but this was much more a bout getting those final points for Raye Groves, who really had something to prove after what many judged a somewhat disappointing tournament for him. Like in A Block, SWA really brought a killer main event to finish out the Block, and I can't be the only one excited to see Paul Lambert vs. Armel St. Martin in the finals. Should be a hell of a match!

Night 13 Block A thoughts:
Very glad that El Halcon Loco Jr. beat Fabio 😄
El Rey vs. Charles:
Two scoundrels getting down! 😁
El Rey commanded the early portions but Charles really made a huge comeback. That time outside helped. While El Rey went for the shortcut chair, Charles took advantage of the distraction.
I love that spot when Charles hits the C2C spear, El Rey gets up, just pummels Charles with uppercuts in the corner, then Charles manages to get that flash pin to escape the scenario. That is SO Charles right there!
Another fun spot was Charles hitting the diving elbow from the top, forcing the rope break, only for El Rey to fire back with a moonsault, forcing the rope break!! Learn from each other, fellas!!
Really thought the full nelson bomb at the 16 minute mark was gonna put it away but El Rey kicks out with a sliver of time. And gotta give El Rey a ton of credit for his grit in fighting out of the THREE Octopus holds (holy shit) right after. Charles was as aggressive as he's been in a long time to close out this match. And holy shit, winning with his finisher handshake arm bar after those three holds was brutal. El Rey's arm has got to be hurting. I wonder if Jasper asked Charles to work El Rey harder to get some of that sweet gold 😁
HUGE win for Charles here - he really needed this one after a rough few weeks.
Saji vs. Armel:
A solid "feeling out" period early on. Really nice striking (especially counter striking) by Saji and really nice work by Armel to keep Saji off balance from the grapple and irish whip.
That irisb whip around 2:36 - Armel runs to the ropes and seems to launch off them with a flying elbow. It was really cool spacing/timing with the run!!
Armel controls the pace throughout but Saji still gets his hope spots in. I love Armel's agility, especially in that dropkick, and the way he uses it to basically overwhelm Saji. I don't think Saji is used to being the slower man in the ring whereas Armel is used to being faster and contending with physically stronger opponents.
Saji fights out of a leg submission only to get kicked in the face a few times. Armel misses the top rope dive but apparently played possum and rolls Saji up! An exhausted Saji looks nervous! He regroups and finally applies his RNC, giving him a shot at being able to put this away.
Armel dodges Saji's attempted running bulldog then immediately transitions into a beautiful top rope flipping hurracanrana!! Its all Armel for the next minute!! I'm shocked Saji is able to kick out of a german suplex here, also surprised that Armel pulled that one out. Saji hits the cutter!!!! But Armel pops up before the cover! That was Saji's last chance! I sense that he realizes it too. Even though he hits a few move moves, he seems a bit lost out there and Armel takes advantage with a beautiful counter for the pin! Great match!

Geese: I was really hoping you'd enjoy Saji vs. Armel. It's one of the highlights of the tournament overall, I think. Honestly that whole night was really good. Charles vs. El Rey was a one-in-a-million kind of sim that was just perfect in about every way. Waiting on YouTube to get my video from last night's show uploaded - the World Open Final was some good stuff.

I was looking forward to Saji vs. Armel and it exceeded expectations!!
I really love the dynamic early on with Saji trying to strike Armel but Armel dodging some of the strikes and controlling the pace from the grapple. Saji was in it the entire match but Armel had a little more fire and an edge due to experience. I thought that Saji had a TON of hope spots at the end though and I really thought he'd have a chance after that cutter but Armel just wanted this more and earned it. I also really liked that spot where Saji just looked mentally exhausted while catching his breath as well. I don't think Saji knew exactly how to prepare for this match which is not a knock on him as much as a compliment to the very improvisational and difficult to predict Armel. Like you said in the notes, there may be some unfinished business. It was a decisive victory, in my view, but it was one that may eat a little at Saji due to having a few opportunities at the end but falling short. However, the respect is completely there between the two.
Unlike Charles and El Rey who clearly hate each other after this match!! 😁
Charles is one of the dirtiest players in the game but he's also a hypocrite. So when El Rey went for the chair, Charles got SUPER pissed, but he's also enough of an opportunist to take advantage of it. He also knows he has a target on his back by playing spoiler to El Rey but maybe doesn't mind so much. Charles and Kurt both revel in pissing people off so not only does Charles like the win, he likes the psychological effect on El Rey. He doesn't mind being hunted if it means El Rey losing sleep over the match.

Here we go. It's all down to this folks. World Open FINAL: Armel St. Martin vs. Paul Lambertyoutu.be/iKWxbRiLuY8Post-Match: Even after the two have shaken hands and Armel leaves to give Paul his moment, Paul sits silently on the mat for a long moment, breathing heavily and taking it all in. Finally, he gestures for a microphone, though he remains seated as he started to speak.Paul: It was... a hell of a tournament. I've got... a few people I want to thank. To everyone in the SWA locker room, thanks for all the great matches that pushed me. To VOLT, thank you for fighting your hardest in the B Block and showing everybody what the Vanguard can do. And to Armel St. Martin... thank you for a match that should go down as a career highlight for both of us. Paul stands slowly, looking all around the arena.Paul: But most importantly. To you, the fans, thank you for your cheers and support throughout this tournament. Thank you for embracing myself and the rest of the Vanguard. We made a promise to you. It's time now for us to deliver on that promise. Samael, I know you're in the back watching this. Not only am I challenging you for the SWA Openweight Championship, I say let's do it in a way where there can be no questions. At Aftermath, I challenge you to fight for the SWA Openweight Championship... inside a steel cage. Samael makes his appearance on the entrance ramp, flanked by Aaron Wolff and Blaze. The Brotherhood start to make their way down the ramp, but VOLT Tsukuda and Toni Severin come out of a side entrance to block their path. Samael gestures to Wolff and Blaze. He doesn't have a microphone, but we can hear Samael say "Take care of them." The tension in the air is cut by a sudden, unexpected intrusion.www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vqTHkbpOr4The theme music of N-Trio rings out through the arena! The crowd goes wild! The Brotherhood look around in confusion as N-Trio casually ambles out to join the lines of wrestlers blocking the way to the ring, gripping a three-foot pipe wrench in one hand. He gestures for a microphone, and points the wrench at Samael.N-Trio: Just you, if you would. We wouldn't want this to get... ugly. A tense moment of silence passes. Finally, Samael gestures to Wolff and Blaze, who back down a bit. Samael starts to walk toward the ring, but N-Trio stands in his way, face to face. N-Trio, clearly enjoying the drama of it all, looks Samael dead in the eye before smirking, handing Samael the microphone, and stepping aside. Samael makes his way to the ring as he speaks.Samael: So. Paul. It is not enough that I destroy you at the biggest show of the year to cement my place as ruler and finalize the destruction of SWA. You wish to be placed inside a cage with me. As a conqueror, I appreciate the chance to make a spectacle of breaking your body and grinding out the hopes of everybody watching. But tell me. Other than a certain theatrical grandeur to it all, why would I accept your stipulation? Paul: Let me sweeten the pot a little for you. If you win, not only do you retain the SWA Openweight Championship, and have me, broken, and defeated, inside a steel cage where nobody can interfere, but I give you my word that if you win, the Vanguard will dissolve. We will step aside, and none of us will ever challenge you again. Your dominance of SWA will be all but complete. Samael: Appealing. It would save me the trouble of having to break your minions. But what do you gain from such an arrangement? Paul: I promised these people at the beginning of this tournament that I would not only end your reign, but I would end the Brotherhood. That's my stipulation. We fight at Aftermath for the SWA Openweight Championship, and the loser's faction dissolves. Samael: The arrogance. The sheer hubris! Samael looks ready to lunge forward and grab Paul by the throat, but then the emotion passes just as quickly, replaced by an eerie calm.Samael: Very well. I accept your ridiculous proposal. Because the fact is, you know as well as I do, as well as every pathetic soul here knows, you can't beat me. Nobody can. I've proved that. And I sense now an opportunity to show my dominance to the world! Samael throws aside the microphone and shoots out a hand to grab Paul by the throat, but Paul ducks under and grabs Samael's arm at the shoulder! Back on the ramp, Aaron Wolff and Blaze push their way past VOLT, Toni, and N-Trio to rush down to the ring. Paul starts to force Samael to the mat, looking for the Danielson Lock, but Samael hastily grabs a ring rope and pulls himself out of the ring. Samael: YOU'RE DEAD AT AFTERMATH! YOU HEAR ME? DEAD! I WILL GRIND YOUR BONES TO DUST! YOUR SUFFERING SHALL BE LEGENDARY! The episode comes to an end on the image Blaze and Aaron Wolff try desperately to drag the incensed Samael to the back.

Aftermath is on Sunday and I'll be trying to get my videos up for as many of the matches as I can soon after, but I realized I never got around to posting the card here. I'm sure this is old news to anybody who actively follows SWA TV, but here's the announced card for Aftermath:
Triple Debut Triple-Threat Match: ??? vs. ??? vs. ??? Double Return Match: Connor Cipris and Kazuo Saji vs. unimportantguy and Kyle Sieras SWA Tag-Team Championships: High Fly Heroes vs. Angels of Anarchy SWA Aftermath Championship: Armel St. Martin vs. Aguijon Tachibana SWA Joshi Championship: Tigress Amita vs. Mieko Suzuyama MAIN EVENT: Cage Match for the SWA Openweight Championship: Paul Lambert vs. Samael Tangaroa
I'm also hearing that a Power Eagle vs. Tony Castille match is being considered as a dark match attraction, but it's unlikely to make the main card. SWA was reportedly in talks with Charles Langford to appear on the event as well, but he pulled out, citing obligations in UBL. A rash of "Charles LAME-ford" and "Langford Fears El Rey" signs at recent SWA events have made it clear how the fans feel.

World Open final event: I love what happened here. I'm a big Armel fan but having Paul go over, to cement his ascent and the status of the Vanguard, was 100% the right choice. Great match and awesome finish too. I like how he beat Armel with a top rope move. Armel had a hell of World Open! 👏
That post match angle was absolute fire!!!!! I loved Paul's initial promo but his challenge to Samael was even better. That's a HUGE challenge right to a monster's face. Samael could barely contain himself. The stips on this match, and the potential for an end to a career, are HUGE. What an excellent exclamation point to this excellent league!!!! Also love N-Trio's return to keep the peace...for as long as one can in pro wrestling 😁
I loved this moment too:
Looks like Paul got into his head...not sure he'll want to stay there long though 😮
Triple Debut Triple-Threat Match: ??? vs. ??? vs. ??? My money's on ??? Double Return Match: Connor Cipris and Kazuo Saji vs. unimportantguy and Kyle Sieras That interests the hell out of me!! BHB returning and facing UIG and Kyle!! Wow, I feel like this is going to be a very interesting match for many reasons. SWA Aftermath Championship: Armel St. Martin vs. Aguijon Tachibana Armel has totally earned that shot. *Starts "You deserve it" chant and gets booted from OGJoshifan.net*SWA was reportedly in talks with Charles Langford to appear on the event as well, but he pulled out, citing obligations in UBL. A rash of "Charles LAME-ford" and "Langford Fears El Rey" signs at recent SWA events have made it clear how the fans feel. Jasper Woodruff: "Lookee here! Charles dun cut and run!! We finding gold this weekend!" Kurt Sanders: "And that's why we all agreed I'd do the talking for us. Listen up SWA, if ubble can get off their asses to actually run a show this week like it's supposed to, Charles is gonna be busy teaching Tetsu Gushiken a much needed lesson. So get in line, El Rey...oh wait, you already got moved to the back of it. Sorry bro."
