I wasn't expecting to hear from Saji so soon, but of course when he has something to say he always knocks it out of the park! I wonder if Ultimo Cielo will have a response, and if so, will we have to wait until the next show to hear it?

Very glad you like it!! š Saji's reaction have been slowly forming in my head since Aftermath. Then it all came together the other night once I had a chance to relax. It like immediately took shape.
At first, I figured he'd be mad across the board. But then I thought two things:
1) Him being angry under the circumstances made sense but felt too conventional.
Even with the nut shots š
2) His biggest character flaws over his career could be turned into strengths.
He's always been overconfident and too playful.
But now his confidence is finally earned. So being playful was his way of showing he has Cielo's number. He isn't stressed cause he truly believes he will win and it was amusing to him to see Cielo expose himself here in throwing every dirty trick that he could to beat him.
Cocky -> Cool as a cucumber š
Cuzuo Saji š„
Hae-won: "Do not encourage him to use that emoji more than he alraedy does."

The debut was exactly who I thought it was. Hell yeah.
The main event was a preview tag for Matt de Leon's Aftermath championship defense next week vs. Javier Valiente. There was some noticeable dissent between Javier Valiente and Aguijon Tachibana during the match, with Aguijon attempting to bring in a chair to work over Matt's leg and Javier pulling the chair away from him. While Aguijon and Javier were arguing, Matt rolled Aguijon up for the win. I think the Angry Wrasslin' Nerd might be dead on the money about Javier Valiente leaving Los Diablos sooner than later.
As for the SWA Openweight Champion, Ultimo Cielo, he was conspicuously absent from the ring, showing up only during intermission to let people know that he would be signing autographs out front.

Events following tonight's SWA show: After the show. Fans mill about, hitting the restroom, checking out the merch tables, calling rides, and stretching their legs. At the center of it all is the SWA Openweight Champion, Ultimo Cielo, who is somewhat comically wearing a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses over his mask.Cielo: Who do I make this one out to? Josh? Sure thing. As Ultimo Cielo scribbles a signature on a glossy 8x10 with a Sharpie, the fan at the front of the line pulls out a cell phone.Fan: Hey, Champ, have you seen the callout you got from Kazuo Saji? He got some pretty good ones in. Ultimo Cielo rather theatrically sighs and tips up the Ray-Bans to glance at the fan's phone being held out toward him. He smirks at the video of Saji's promo.Cielo: Okay, okay, I guess I better address this. Good a time as any. You got your phones out and ready? The champ sets down the Ray-Bans and hoists the SWA Openweight Championship onto his shoulder.Cielo: Anyone who's spent any time on Reddit, Twitter, or OG-Joshi Fan knows that the quickest way to know if someone is mad is if they say "I'm not mad." The fact of the matter, Kazuo, is that if you were really as frosty as you claim, you wouldn't be listing out the things you have to be mad about. From my perspective, what our match came down to is that I had the will to do whatever was necessary to win, and you didn't. Simple as. Fan: But what about what he said about next time? Ultimo Cielo chuckles. Cielo: About that. I know everybody's got their phones pointed at me right now, so you can't go looking up what videos from the World Open, but does anybody remember what Samael said back on March 3rd? Let me refresh your memories. Ultimo Cielo pulls out his own phone and pulls up a promo video from the March 3rd World Open show. I secured a promise from Morgainne. No more rematches for you, Cielo. No more victory laps against men you've already beat. Cielo: Now, it always pays to fact check what some complete nutcase says when you hand him a microphone, and I did. In this case, Samael was true to his word. Per SWA Management, no wrestler will be granted a rematch for the SWA Openweight Championship for as long as I hold it. No more "victory laps against men I've already beat." Seems like a stupid decision if you ask me, because the list of men I've already beaten just keeps growing. And you, Kazuo, are already on that list. Fans start parting and murmuring as a voice comes up from the back.??: But I'm not on that list yet, am I? Utlimo Cielo suddenly stands up, anger and confusion crossing his face. The crowd around Ultimo Cielo starts to back up warilyCielo: Who said that? Who the fuck said that? A man emerges from the crowd. It takes a moment for anyone to recognize him out of his ring gear, but the murmur of the fans becomes a pronounced "Ohhhhh" as realization sets in.Aaron Wolff: You keep talking about how you're providing the leadership Murderer's Row needs to succeed. But from where I'm sitting, everything I'm seeing is all about you. We already had enough of that from N-Trio. Cielo: You sure you wanna do this here, Aaron? Now? Ultimo Cielo gestures to the crowd around him, even as people refocus to try to get both Ultimo Cielo and Aaron Wolff in their viewfinders.Cielo: Because from where I'm standing, this seems like an awful place to embarrass yourself like this. Aaron Wolff approaches Ultimo Cielo's merch table, the fans parting around him like a wave.Wolff: Can't think of a better time, really. No way for you to back out when the eyes of the world are already on you. Ultimo Cielo slams a hand down on the merch table.Cielo: Fine, you stupid son of a bitch. You want to play hardball with your faction leader? Lemme remind you what happens when you cross the Row. Fans scatter in panic as Ultimo Cielo lunges across the merch table at Aaron Wolff, Championship belt in hand, but Wolff fires off a left roundhouse kick, knocking the belt out of Ultimo Cielo's hands. Aaron Wolff picks up the SWA Openweight Championship and raises it high, making sure everyone has a chance to take a picture before depositing the belt back on the table and walking away. For once, the Champion is speechless.

In my excitement to post the Bobby Wilder match and the other angles from this show, I forgot to post the bracket for the TagFest. I'm at work and away from my notes right now but I'll get that up after I get home from work (I work nights so don't stay up for this fellow USians)

As I mentioned (and forgot to actually post), SWA announced the brackets for the SWA Summer TagFest on this week's 5/20 show. As mentioned by Alex Morgainne in his "State of SWA" letter, this year's TagFest is a Trios tournament and the result will crown the first SWA Trios Champions, with the finals taking place at Emergence on July 30th. Here are the first round matchups: Los Diablos (El Rey Dorado, Fabio Silva, and Aguijon Tachibana) vs. Three of a Kind (Charles Langford, Kurt Sanders, and Jasper Woodruff) BHB (Connor Cipris, Kazuo Saji, and Lina) vs. Murderer's Row (Adam Nishimura, Brandon Kennedy, and Valkyrie Jameson) Lords of Desolation (Carlos Ortega-Reyes, Tommy Powers, and Olivia Powers) vs. The Vanguard (Kyle Sieras, VOLT Tsukuda, and Toni Severin) Chad Jackson, Matt de Leon, and Tigress Faridah vs. Armel St. Martin, El Halcon Loco Jr., and Tigress Amita Pretty cool to see SWA continue to collaborate with UBL, but I'm kind of dreading what kind of shitshow matches we're going to get out of Three of a Kind (or "match" as the case may be; this is a single elimination tournament and Los Diablos have been looking for an excuse to beat up Three of a Kind ever since Charles Langford beat El Rey Dorado in the World Open back in 2020.) Kind of surprising to see Matt de Leon in the tournament; as the current Aftermath Champion, he's going to be very busy, and to top it off, he's not teaming with his BHBros. Could Matt be joining the trend of wrestlers in SWA who seem to be leaving their factions behind? The TagFest starts the first week of June, and runs through Emergence.

I thought I would get a bit of a break this quarter, but things just keep on happening.
On Wednesday this week, Lexi Heart officially challenged Mieko Suzuyama for the SWA Joshi Championship on June 14th.
On Friday, Kyle Sieras abruptly announced that he was pulling out of the TagFest to take a 6 month sabbatical from SWA. Sieras will be replaced by Raye Groves in the TagFest.
On Saturday, we got a double-whammy. People who pay close attention to this thread might have noticed that I removed Aaron Wolff from the Murderer's Row section of the profile post after last week's blow-up between Wolff and Ultimo Cielo, but it appears I did so prematurely: Aaron Wolff vs. Ultimo Cielo for the Openweight Championship is on for June 17th, and the loser of that match will be kicked out of Murderer's Row!
In addition, Aguijon Tachibana interfered in the Javier Valiente vs. Matt de Leon Aftermath Championship match, ultimately costing Valiente the match by disqualification. After the match, Javier brawled with Aguijon. When El Rey Dorado came out to separate them, Javier grabbed the house mic and announced he was leaving Los Diablos.

This week, Mieko Suzuyama, Ultimo Cielo, and The Divine Imperium all defended their championships. I think the Angry Wrasslin' Nerd will be posting about them in the next couple days, so I'll demure on giving my own opinions for the moment.

Last weekend, the parts for my new computer came in unexpectedly early, and I spent all the time I was going to spend on SWA building, testing, and troubleshooting. I'll try to get to it this weekend. My bad.

And as always, for people who don't want to give the Nerd clicks: SWA Week in Review 6/12-6/18/2023 I've been getting a lot of requests to talk about the TagFest, but so far I haven't touched it. I know this is hard for people to believe but I do actually love SWA, but I also know well that the tag division has never really been their strength. Even with the new Trios Championships in the mix this year (You're welcome for that again by the way), it just doesn't feel like there'll be enough to really make a whole-ass post about until we've had more than the first round out of the way. But with the TagFest being that main thing going on right now, that doesn't really leave me very fucking much to mash my keyboard at, now, does it? And now I have people in my DMs asking if I'm still watching SWA. Yes, you dipfucks, I'm still watching, there just hasn't been anything to talk about. But last week was a title match week. Well, that's a little different. When titles're on the line, there's always stuff to talk about. So let's go over this shit chronologically, because it's nice to have some kind of order and structure in this fucked up world we live in. 6/14: Lexi Heart vs. Mieko Suzuyama Hanami Watanabe must be fuming to see Lexi Heart get this title match over her, based on their respective performances at Aftermath. Sorry, kid. Keep putting in the reps and you'll get there eventually. Lexi has always been one of those performers that's right on the cusp of greatness. Whether it was in the Masked Ladies tag team with Keilyn Coardes, or on her own, she's always had that sense of viciousness that so many lack that can carry you to the very top, but the results have never quite lined up for her as a singles wrestler. But she looked as good as she's ever looked in this title match, giving the Joshi Champ the kind of fight that would've been right at home on a pay-per-view show. For most of this match, I would've predicted an untimely end to Mieko Suzuyama's reign and a new champion. But the Miracle Goddess is fucking back, baby. Fans who've been around for a while will remember well Mieko Suzuyama's previous Joshi Championship reign, where she earned the nicknames Joshi Ace and Miracle Goddess for being a wholely unstoppable, relentless wrestling machine who wouldn't stay down no matter how much punishment she absorbed. That side of Mieko seemed to fade a bit since she lost the championship, but it was in full fucking force on this night in particular. And it didn't matter how hard Lexi kicked, how viciously she went after those arm locks, or how many times she dropped Mieko on her head with her signature Lexiplexes, the Joshi Champ seemed completely impervious to harm. Every time it looked like Mieko was down and out, she would come back even stronger, and it genuinely seemed to scare the shit out Lexi, who by the end was reduced to staring in awe and fear at the sheer unstoppable majesty of Mieko at full power. This was a showcase for Mieko in her first defense of this new title reign, and if she keeps putting in performances like this, she might be able to hold the championship for another two years. The Nerd's Rating: Unstoppable/10 6/16: Javier Valiente and Emi Yamazaki vs. The Divine Imperium One notable downside of the TagFest is that it means a lot of the best tag-team wrestlers in SWA are tied up in the tournament each year, making it slim pickings for challengers for the Tag-Team Championships. Year after year, weāve had to get used to seeing a tepid filler defense in this slot, with actual marquee matches being few and far between. This defense was, on paper, no different, with Javier Valiente fresh from leaving Los Diablos and Emi Yamazaki still struggling to find her place in SWA, and the two having never teamed together before. What we got, though, was the Divine Imperium in full-blown implosion mode. Things have just been getting worse between Akiko Shimizu and Mizuki Yoshinaga since their last defense, and they couldnāt even seem to coordinate tags in this match, let alone get on the same page offensively. The Divine Imperium spent almost all of this match on the back foot, and the nascent team of Valiente and Yamazaki worked their asses off. I came into this match fully ready to dismiss the challengers, and I came out of it angry that they couldnāt quite seal the deal after getting so close. Iām ready for the Divine Imperium to tumble. Their shit isnāt working anymore, and thereās just no way they can continue to hold it together in the face of the competition, especially once the TagFest is over and the more seasoned teams are freed up to pursue them. The Nerdās Rating: Multiple Kinds of Disappointing/10 6/17: Aaron Wolff vs. Ultimo Cielo I donāt feel like Iāve said this enough times. Fuck Ultimo Cielo. Fuck Ultimo Cielo for the absolute garbage his title reign has been. Fuck Ultimo Cielo for briefly tricking me into thinking he was turning over a new leaf as a fighting champion. Fuck Ultimo Cielo for the complete mockery heās made of the SWA Openweight Championship, and oh yeah, fuck Ultimo Cielo for this match. At least when he was wrestling Kazuo Saji, Cielo put on the veneer of attempting to have a legitimate match. This match, on the other hand, had so much horseshit in it I thought Iād accidentally switched streams and was watching a UBL show. Part of me wants to blame SWA management for this. They made the decision to bring the overflowing bucket of festering pustules known as Three of a Kind over for the TagFest. They infected their own product with a LETHAL DOSE of ass cancer. But I feel like thatās selling our champion short. He didnāt copy anybody else, oh no, this was an entirely Ultimo Fucking Cielo brand of unrepentant goatfuckery. He pulled out every trick in the book, from hair pulling, to accusing Aaron Wolff of fucking with his mask, to low blows, to dirty pins, to outright just RUNNING THE FUCK AWAY on the outside, and thatās just the first ten minutes! This heaping pile went THIRTY FUCKING MINUTES. Credit where itās due. Aaron Wolff tried his best to salvage this. His hard-nosed, straightforward, shootstyle wrestling was, in many ways, the perfect counter to Cieloāsā¦ whatever the FUCK this was. At times, when Wolff was controlling Cielo on the mat, or laying in strikes, this match threatened to become good. But we were never more than a couple minutes away from yet another serving of dogshit. And once the rest of the Row started to show up? Forget it. Iām not ashamed to say I fucking closed the stream and walked away 25 minutes in. I found out the results on dirtydirtydirtsheet, and I feel like the five minutes I saved probably saved me from having some kind of seizure. Sajiās right. Ultimo Cielo is shook. Heās falling apart. The time is ripe for someone to come along and end this fucking fecal fiesta of a title reign. Iād even take another Samael run over this. The Nerdās Rating: UN FUCKING ACCEPTABLE/10

Perhaps coincidentally, that's not the only Nerd post I failed to carry over. This week, SWA announced that Samael will challenge for the SWA Openweight Championship at Emergence. The Nerd had this to say I DIDN'T MEAN IT YOU FUCKS #FUCKSAMAEL #FUCKMYLIFE

I've been in a bit of a down period when it comes to wrestling lately. I let both my NJPW and SWA streaming subscriptions lapse months ago, and so I also haven't been doing anything with this thread.
BUT, I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate Kazuo Saji, who began his first reign with the SWA Openweight Championship at SWA's Crescendo PPV on Sunday, January 28th, 2024. After months of drama between Saji and Ultimo Cielo, including Cielo making attacks on Saji's BHB protege Bobby Wilder during the Escalation tournament in the fall, Saji managed to secure a rematch with Cielo. Alex Morgainne was reluctant to make the match, but Saji showed he was serious by putting his place on the SWA roster on the line, promising to permanently leave SWA should he lose.
So congratulations to Kazuo Saji, the first outsider to ever hold the SWA Openweight Championship. I look forward to his title defenses.

I've been in a bit of a down period when it comes to wrestling lately. I let both my NJPW and SWA streaming subscriptions lapse months ago, and so I also haven't been doing anything with this thread. Same. Kinda burned out on AEW and not interested in any other real promotion enough to have a subscription. BUT, I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate Kazuo Saji, who began his first reign with the SWA Openweight Championship at SWA's Crescendo PPV on Sunday, January 28th, 2024. Alex Morgainne was reluctant to make the match, but Saji showed he was serious by putting his place on the SWA roster on the line, promising to permanently leave SWA should he lose. Wow, he finally did it!! š Actually put his roster spot on the line too showing he was serious š Saji: "A Crescendo is like a climax, right? And peeps doubted I'd get one? š" So congratulations to Kazuo Saji, the first outsider to ever hold the SWA Openweight Championship. I look forward to his title defenses. Looks like he finally made the right kind of history! He will no longer just be remembered as the first winner of the World Open to lose his immediate contention match! Now he's left a positive legacy as the first outsider to hold the SWA Openweight Title (and also the first outsider to hold that Title, the SWA Aftermath Champion, and win the World Open!) Saji: "Dat 'A' in SWA stands for 'accolades." Valentine's Day around the Saji house gon be lit š

At this point, Saji just needs to hold the Trios championships and he'll have won every major accolade in SWA. He's truly managed to do it all over the past ten years: Tag Team, Aftermath, and Openweight Championships, and won the World Open, TagFest, and Escalation tournaments.
