I'll admit the Suzuki match at the time made me think he should've won, and all of the booking leading up to that point pointed to Suzuki winning. Return of Suzukigun, they had momentum, then Suzuki injured Okada's leg before the match, giving Okada an excuse to lose. Really it made all the sense in the world. So I was super shocked when Okada won.
But it hindsight I think it worked out for the better. Suzuki's Never title reign was pretty bad, but with Okada keeping the belt we got to have some real great title matches in 2017 and then he went on to break the defense record. And Kenny beating him in the 2/3 falls was the absolutely perfect ending.
On another note... After the US show we now know the main event(EDIT: Well I assume the IWGP title match will be the main event...) for KOPW this year, and damn it's a weird one!

It's not "weirdly dismissive", when an "opinion" is just showing as "i hate this" just because "this" has gotten traction and popularity all around i have no problem with dismissing it because it's obvious it's not an attempt to launch a discussion about the "this", it's just yet another "i hate this" variant that can be found regularly in all wrestling boards around the internet. But hey, you can dismiss my drivel too :)

Are you into it because it's popular? :)

Okada is the chosen ace until they're ready to replace him. Naito is staying as no.3 or the 4 guy which isn't so bad.
Omega is mostly only workrate and movez but has cartoon selling and lack of psychology. But they're pushing him for western expansion, he has the look and work ethic.
Most people in modern NJPW don't sell limbwork much anyways, I remember Gotoh no selling Tanahashi's long term legwork in most bouts when they faced each other.
The expansion is a long term goal but it's still possible it might fail. DG USA failed for example.

Dragon Gate was a very exclusive promotion that rarely, if ever, used outside talent. These guys were a well-oiled machine that knew what to do, when to do it at virtually all times. It made for a tight, polished product that knew its audience. Bringing in outsiders is fine, but trying to build a US promotion where it's mostly not these core talents is just making another promotion that's like all of the rest. It's just not gonna work.

I may be dumb but I am unapologetic in my love for what's happening in NJPW.
I think the long term story being set up is Tanahashi's re-ascension to the top. He and Shibata will save NJPW. That's what I'm seeing anyway, again, dumb.

So here's something: it seems like s whole lot of smokescreen is being thrown up and nothing is likely to actually happen, but what if The Elite *do* leave NJPW? I've heard rumors that the company's losing Kushida and possibly KES as well.
Personally, I feel like that ultimately be a good thing. If NJPW were to spend a while refocusing on native talent, guys like Juice Robinson who went through the Dojo system, and the dudes at the LA Dojo, they would probably come out the other end with a stronger, more cohesive product.
Who are new stars going forward? Who else could stand to be cut? This feels like a really interesting time for the company.
To me, Okada/White looks to have potential as a top feud, with Ibushi/Ospreay and Goto/Cobb also being rivalries that have legs.

It would be silly for Kenny to bail on being the top guy of the #2 promotion in the world that has a lot invested him him just because your pals are probably starting up a new company, but who knows. Honestly, who cares? Kenny's title reign has been a lot of nothing for the company outside of SI articles. It's obvious that Ospreay is getting bumped up and they have more than enough talent on the roster to keep churning out the good matches that fans are into.

Next year will be a big year for Naito I think. White, Ospreay and Sabre Jr will move up a level and after being off the main WK card completely I see something of resurgence for Goto next year. The young lions look good too and SHO and YOH could get singles pushes soon. The future's bright.

NJPW has a ton of talent, both already there and coming up. Naito has been waiting in the wings patiently while NJPW has its experiment with Kenny/Jericho and company, which is fine, but ultimately putting the #2 title on Jericho, who worked like two shows or something crazy like that, was perhaps not the best use of their platform. He's had great matches, entirely different than anything else going right now, which is important, but that title was probably better served elsewhere. Hell, it perhaps showed that they don't need as many singles titles, even, but I doubt NJPW sees it that way.

They want to push Jay White next. While everyone else remains in the same place until Okada gets his top spot back.

Sorry if this is old, but... This video perfectly encapsulates my feelings on Kenny Omega. Cool! Undertale! Oh, he's making fun of his boss. Oh he's saying that young people like him and old people like Tanahashi, okay, that's certainly, alright. Oh, he's complaining about people saying that he's a heel... Hasn't he been cutting heel promos?! Oh and it's now basically a promo for AEW... Alright?
