So Wrestle Kingdom was cool. The undercard flew by and the top of the card was epic.
I'm excited by the announcement of the UK show as well.

I was kind of disappointed in Wrestle Kingdom 13, to be honest! Like half of the card just sort of flew by without feeling like anything interesting or substantial, and only Ospreay/Ibushi and the top 3 matches felt like they had the time and stakes to be interesting. Cody/Juice in particular was short and disappointing, but that might be attributed to Cody's knee issues. I wanted at least 3 or 4 of those matches to get another 5 minutes or so to really get going. The whole show felt really rushed.

New Japan is going to feel so different with the Bucks and proabably Kenny gone.
Why don't they elevate Sanada? For the couple years I've been really watching NJPW closely, I've thought he has main eventer written all over him. I know he and Evil have gotten a big tag team push, but they should move up Sanada next, IMHO.
Jay White being a centerpiece is going to be interesting. I was glad to see him get the big win over Okada.

From what I understand, Sanada doesn't have an exclusive contract with NJPW. This is the same reason why Ibushi and Shibata never got top-level pushes.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Sanada is working for NJPW as a freelancer. They're perfectly happy to book freelancers, but a freelancer will never ever be The Guy in NJPW. That'll always be someone who is under contract, and when possible, someone who went through the Young Lion system. Unless Sanada puts pen to paper on an exclusive contract, even a dude like Juice Robinson is more likely to get a run on top.

Yeah, WK was super rushed.
Feel like they were trying to tailor the product to sell to foreign markets, which meant making it more svelte.

Just watched the 47th anniversary show in AXS TV (which I just discovered that I had)
I enjoyed it quite a bit (though Ospreay's annoying facial expressions piss me the hell off)
looking forward to the New Japan Cup tournament

But I gotta say, that hidden blade elbow he uses looks extremley brutal!

The cup has been excellent so far. Always wonderful seeing the forsaken Third Generation receive a helping of love.

Madison Square Garden show was pretty disappointing. Everything on the New Japan side was fine, but ROH was booking their side like a B-PPV, with that dumb dragged out women's match segment and Street fight. Production was also pretty bad.
ROH used to be the "workrate" promotion but they really have fallen. An ROH world champion should be either an amazing inring worker or have actual star power. Preferably both. Okada has both.
But Matt Taven as your world champion? God damn. I'm pretty sure every New Japan title holder is more talented, more credible and more over. And Kenny King is next in line for a title shot? That matchup does not exactly scream "money".

More like "ROH" now. I think NJPW will sever ties with ROH in the not too distant future because they can carry their own shows with the roster that they have.

New Japan can do their own shows without ROH. ROH is coming off their biggest year financially in their history. I don’t know if they can come close this year. With AEW coming I think they may lose a lot of their fan base. Tavern as champion I think is a more of a let’s put it on a guy who’s been here a long time than put it on a guy who actually deserves it.
I think New Japan will be fine without the Elite. Only thing I don’t like is the fact they are playing hot potato with the heavyweight belt. Omega dropping the belt at WK made sense because he was leaving. But to have Tanahashi and then White drop the belt in their 1st defense doesn’t make sense. I really thought they were going to go somewhere with this Dream Team thing with Okada & Tanahashi but it looks like they have moved away from that.

I was, myself, really hoping for a bigger reign from White and that's probably been my biggest disappointment of NJPW's 2019 so far. It only makes sense for Okada to get back the belt sooner or later, but I agree that it feels like they're playing hot potato with the championship and I don't like it.

So Kenta is now out of WWE and joining NJPW apparently.

So Kenta is now out of WWE and joining NJPW apparently. Joining NJPW? Where was that confirmed?
If true I'm genuinely surprised as I totally would have thought a return stint in NOAH was a given, especially since the promotion is trying to reboot. Though saying that the amount of insane new match ups available to KENTA in NJPW would make for some excellent and fresh viewing.
Edit: Just read the latest show results. Seems like he is in the G1, that doesn't mean he will stay solely as a NJPW roster member as G1 guest wrestlers have been a thing before.
