I've been playing the Streets of Rogue 2 demo over the past week and it's really good. I tried the first game earlier in the year and I didn't quite get into it. But the open/connected map and the general "free roam" vibe has got me really into the sequel. I also like the driving. The whole experience reminds me of old school GTA but with some of the depth that more modern day games have brought.

I have been playing Hades Star, I am not big into RTS, but my friend got me into this one. It's not bad.
I also played WWE2k23. The Showcase with John Cena was all right. After 22, I thought I was done, but with the 80s version of Hogan, I decided to go for it. I likely won't get 24 though as I don't see enough of an improvement.
I did get a copy of SD vs RAW 2006 on PS2 delivered this week, so I plan on jumping back into it at some point. The good thing about teaching is that while the classroom grind is real, the off time is awesome for recharging and just relaxing.

But what you're saying about the sequel has me interested.

The first one always intrigued me, but I could never pull the trigger, even when it would go on sale, mostly because of the existing backlog/diminishing time factor thing. The sequel looks a lot more polished, thanks for bringing its existence into my line of sight! 😁

It's definitely worth giving the free demo a try! I've already put 10 hours into it this week 😄
I respected what the first game was but I just wasn't super into it when I first tried it. The main reason is that I heard about the series initially from an online article talking about the sequel! It had a preview video and I was really into the free roam nature of it as well as the different things you could do. So when I decided to give the first game a try, my expectations were really for the second game and were understandable just not met. It does not have that free roam aspect. The areas are smaller and don't seamlessly connect. (Think GTA 3 vs. San Andreas). But also, the game was just so dense and I didn't quite understand a lot of the mechanics. The tutorial wasn't so clear to me. I just didn't feel like it was worth putting the time in for this game when I knew the second game had features I would enjoy more.
I think the tutorial for the second game was a bit more clear and I caught on quicker to the overall vibe. Also, since it's just a demo and there are limited things to do compared to the full version of the first game I played, that actually helped me since it allowed me to focus on core gameplay aspects. I think I understand both games more now actually. Once I feel like I've exhausted the demo for the second game, I may pick the first game back up again too if there's time before the full version of the second game comes out. I'd probably enjoy it more now.
I'll note that it's worth putting some time into finding a control scheme that works for you. The demo doesn't support gamepads yet (or at least didn't initially) and so you have to use mouse/keyboard. That is not really a natural fit for me for an action game given my years of console play. The WASD keys for movement make sense since you need your right hand for the mouse (shooting and aiming). But it took me an hour or so to refine the individual keys they have for the other commands (action, inventory, etc). There are still times the WASD keys kind of fail me but that's more my issue.
Take some time getting acclimated to basic movement and regular attacks. The combat system is fun but a little chaotic and there's definitely a learning curve. But it's really satisfying once you figure it out.

Anyone still playing Baldur's Gate 3? I lost an Honour mode run this past weekend in the dumbest way possible (for those who don't know, Honour mode is the highest difficulty setting, you only get one save, and if your party dies it erases your save). Nobody I know IRL plays BG3 so there's no one for me to commiserate with, so I'll share my sad story here. My party was my Tav (a fighter), Astarion, Gale and Shadowheart, who I'd respecced into a monk (monks are super OP)...me and Shadowheart were the tanks of the group. We had just completed the Trials for the Gauntlet of Shar and were heading into the Library to get the Spear of Night. The party had just hit Level 8, and I'd given Shadowheart the Alert feat to boost up her initiative. During the fight in the Library, a stray fireball had damaged the bookcase that holds the book you need to unlock the hidden room where the Spear is kept. After the fight, I realized the book had fallen off the shelf with the explosion. I could see it on the ground but nothing I could do would let me pick it up. I tried everything I could think of but eventually gave up and tried to go through the portal to the Shadowfell anyways. Shadowheart freaked out and insisted we go back for the spear. When I refused her, she actually turned on the party and attacked us! Because I'd just given her Alert, she rolled the highest initiative and immediately downed Astarion and Gale before I could act. My Tav was capable of doing enough damage to down Shadowheart in one turn, but I rolled a critical failure on my second attack, leaving Shadowheart free to kill me on her next turn. Game over, party wiped by my own monk. Lost about 30 hours of progress.

Thus a valuable lesson was learned: Never let Shadowheart do things. She's kind of a fuckup.
