It was the Greek Philosopher Plato who once said "you can learn a lot about a person from an hour of play over a lifetime of conversation". Well... ...I've created a heel tag team in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special with maxed out stats, a critical-friendly moveset, more time spent outside the ring than in it, and a tendency to knock out the referee in the middle of their in-ring rampages. The announcers call out in disgust, while Sabu lays unconscious next to the referee. Can anyone stop this dangerous new faction?

I bought some games over Christmas: WWE 2k23, NHL 24, Cricket 22, and Shaolin vs Wutang. The last one is the one I am enjoying the most. It's made by an independent studio, and it has all kinds of varying styles. Each style has a famous likeness. For example, Shaolin is based off Gordon Liu from "36th Chamber of Shaolin." Jeet Kune Do is based off Bruce Lee. USA Karate is based off Jim Kelly from "Enter the Dragon" and "Tattoo Connection." Wushu looks like Jet Li from "Fearless." One that's funny to me is that Wrestling is based off Bolo's Chong Li in "Bloodsport." I did a gameplay vid with Wing Chun in a tournament.

The graphics, fighting styles and mixed used of weapons reminds me of the PS2 Mortal Kombat entries (Deadly Alliance, Deception & Armageddon). Games I quite enjoyed playing many moons ago; especially for the unlockable content. After playing a boatload of MDickie's Wrestling Revolution 2D on my Phone, I finally purchased Wrestling Revolution 3D in mobile format. While MDickie's work is a unique breed of insanity in it's own right, you can't beat the value you get for $4.99. Currently, I'm reorganizing the roster promotion by promotion. One for modern WWE talent, a secondary for classic WWF-era guys. Japanese, Lucha, and MMA feds also exist. The whole process reminds me of organizing Wrestlers in Fire Pro-Wrestling World.

I picked up Shaolin vs Wutang day one, unusual move for me, but it felt like it was made specifically for me when I saw the trailer for the first time. Admittedly, the game has sat completely neglected like every other thing I pick up. I played a bit of it at first, but forgot about it. It’s really cool, and definitely a love letter to martial arts movies from multiple generations. I’m not a fan of the weapons, they could have done without them, and they feel kinda slapped on without much thought, I’d have rather seen the unarmed fighting the focus of this game (it is anyway, with weapon stuff thrown sloppily in at times). Overall, it is a fun, simple fighter with a cool aesthetic and some sweet special moves.
Thanks for the reminder this game exists, I’ll have to fire it up again. I’d have loved to have seen a BLACK DYNAMITE Unlockable or dlc to fund more Michael Jai White movies! 😁

I always wanted to play the MDickie games, but with limited time, Fire Pro takes my wrestling gameplay. In your estimaton, if I were to get one, which would be the best version?

A love letter to martial arts movies...
Yes, that is a great way to put it, and as avid lover of old school Taiwanese and Hong Kong kung fu flicks, this game sat well.
Didn't they make a sequel game?

Oh man, either I didn’t know there was a sequel, or I forgot all together (looks like it came out last June…). The roster looks the same on the surface (can’t find an actual comparison), maybe just cleaned up a bit visually? Crazy, I had no idea there was a new one!

Personally, I would try out a free demo of any of the Steam or Mobile versions available. As for the games themselves: Wrestling Revolution 2D contains one fixed camera angle and more cartoonish-looking Wrestler sprites. M Dickie was going for a game that replicated the arcade feel of yesteryear, and it shows. The graphics here are more on par with sprites from the Fire Pro series. I personally enjoy this one as a quick Wrestling fix when on the go via the Mobile ver.
Wrestling Revolution 3D features a full 360 degree view of the action, as well as more realistic/larger Wrestler models. The graphics overall feel of the 3D version veers closer to the WWF/WCW PS1 & N64 games of the late 90's. With a bit of looking around, you can find free full versions to play online, should you wish to explore more of the game than a demo with randomized Wrestlers. Wrestling Empire
The current title with regular updates. There's a modding community and Steam Workshop for created Wrestlers (via the PC version). Though, it's not as user-friendly as uploading content to Fire Pro's workshop. I've spent about 10 minutes with the game and I've already started a thread asking for help in order to upload edits to the workshop.
The mobile version charges a yearly subscription of 4.99. The Steam version costs a flat rate of $20 with no mention of annual fees.

So, I figured out how to upload edits in Wrestling Empire's Steam Workshop. A few of my recent creations: With the use of mods (which are surprisingly endorsed by the Steam Workshop), you can also upload edit pieces, match stipulations and ring designs. Just as long as you download the free mod Uploader (available in the workshop as the top download), you can use the mods. Compared to the Fire Pro Workshop (which has around 160,000 edits available for download), there's only about 220 submissions in the Wrestling Empire Workshop at the moment.

Another one off the backlog. Space Crew and it's Android Invasion expansion both beaten. Kinda disappointed with the end of Space Crew. The only way to beat the game is to blow up your own ship and crew inside of the last boss. WTF? Surprised when I got the end game trophy that only 10% of players have beaten the game.
Got Helldivers 2 pre-loaded on the PS5, but not live until Feb 8th.

Helldivers 2
Tutorial done.
The two frontier planets infested by the Terminids are active.
Heeth is 48% Liberated, but I've been deploying at Angel's Venture which is lagging behind at 24% liberated.
Will probably stay dealing with the bugs for awhile, at least until Heeth and Angel's Venture are at 50% liberated, just to build up my character some more. Still a Level 3 Cadet. But Of the 3 missions I did, I did by myself without a team. You can definitely stealth play, but game is super hard solo. Earned the "Nick of time" trophy by making it to the dropship with only seconds to go.
Realized you can't waste time. My ship 'Leviathan of the Stars' will leave if you surpass the time limit. A good method to keep team mates from wasting time now. Get in and get out. I don't want to stand around and listen to you talking about the wife and kids.
Extraction dropships now have a nose gun and will provide fire support as they drop in. Nice touch.
With crossplay you can find you friends by generating a friend code in your ship and giving it to people you want to play with so you can find each other.
So far Helldivers 2 takes everything great about the first one and multiples it by 100.

Every time I settle in to just do a few drops in Helldivers, I always end up playing 5 or 6 hours and not even realize it. Community has Heeth 100% Liberated and Angel's Venture is at 96% and climbing in the Terminid sector. Definitely getting liberated in a day or two. Decided to head over to the Automaton sector where progress is going much slower. Totally different fighting style you have to deal with. Automatons use guns, grenades, dropships, artillery and some heavy machinery. The Terminids you can strike hard and push in assault style. Automatons are heavily fortified and battles are pitched long range gun fights and often times the Helldivers will need to fall back as the terrain they are using for protection gets whittled down. Definitely have to rely on stratagems and stealth even more against the Automatons to keep them back. The Terminids basically just see you and rush at you. The Automatons seem to try and encircle and trap you and if you let it happen you have to punch your way out and run. And I'm only up to Medium difficulty on them. Recoiless rifles are pretty much a must against the Automatons, to knock their reinforcement dropships out of the sky before they can deploy entire squads, although it's fun shooting squaddies out of the dropship and watching them tumble. Linked my Discord to my PS5 which according to the people I was playing with only worked halfassed. Everyone I was playing with was on PC while I was on PS5. I would keep cutting out, but it was nice being able to use the controller as a mic. And speaking of the controller, the Haptic feedback for Helldivers is insane. Guns have their own unique responses and going full auto with a heavy MG literally has the triggers jumping. Also if you unload long enough your Helldiver will start doing insane Rambo yelling or shout something hilarious. Also ended up getting the PC version, but unfortunately accounts don't crossover (yet). That might still be getting worked on, because if I play on PC, I literally have to start fresh with a new character.
EDIT: I'm generally not an intentional team killer, but I was playing with my brothers last night and one of them is fairly new to the game. He wanted to go across the map to check out a point of interest so I was watching him through the fully zoomed scope of an anti-matter sniper rifle. He came across some of those random red exploding barrels that you can pick up and carry around. Anyway he picked one up and was asking on the mic what these things were for. I couldn't resist. I put a round into the one he was carrying and as you know it has a couple seconds of leaking fire before it explodes. He asked what was happening because the barrel was making a hissing noise and shooting out sparks, then it exploded him into pieces. He must have known I shot it because I laughed hysterically for the next five minutes. If I had thought about it I could have recorded the whole thing on PS5 Share so I was kicking myself afterward I didn't think of it so I could send him the video. I completely tried to play it off that I didn't know what had happened but I had mentioned to him on mic that I was watching him across the map through my sniper scope.

The Helldivers servers have been jammed for the last three days. 400,000+ players online. Used the opportunity to break out Final Fantasy Crisis Core for the first time to get ready for Rebirth. Wish I had played sooner. Really filling in the backstory to FFVII. Never knew much about Zack before but he was pretty important to the story of FFVII. The story about how he gets the Buster Sword passed down to him from Angeal, knowing it will eventually get passed on again and become the iconic symbol of FFVII. Meeting Aerith and a young Shinra soldier named Cloud.
Combat is excellent, story is excellent, graphics are good for a PSP upgrade, but what I do hate is all those damn filler missions from the save icon. I guess I can't complain because they are optional and are mostly there to just help you build you character and materia. I've done just over 35% of them now and am like, enough already. But I'm only in Chapter 4 of 11 so I will probably just keep doing them to ensure I'm strong enough to finish the game.
Not a big fan of the Limit Break system in this one either as it basically happens at random. You have that literal lottery system rolling through every battle and depending on what it lands on you get random character buffs and literally have to rely on that lottery to get access to your Limit Breaks, which are also random. Ugh. Can see why they scrapped that in the future games.
Also getting to know a Sephiroth who is still currently a good guy and not insane is very interesting.
Nomura said on X that they've started development on the final part of the FFVII Remake trilogy, but that it likely won't see the light of day until 2026 or later. The trilogy started on PS4 and could literally end on the PS6.
Info drop for Rebirth.
✅Main story is 40 hours ✅Full completion with side content will push it to 100 hours ✅Nomura won’t confirm or deny whether the story takes place in an alternate reality ✅Zack’s storyline is completely original ✅Story has many surprises and mysteries that unfold following the original ✅Gold Saucer date has same and opposite sex romance options ✅Gold Saucer has 7 areas ✅New characters will be introduced alongside longtime original ones ✅Vincent’s gameplay in Rebirth will be similar to Red XIII, and will be fully playable in the 3rd game ✅Vincent and Yuffie’s storylines will be fully incorporated into the main story giving further depth and connections to other characters ✅The game is 150GB in size, split into two discs on PS5 ✅The story events culminates at the Forgotten Capital ✅All areas will be included, b hit the events leading to that ending won’t necessarily follow the same order ✅Wutai won’t be in the game, and is saved for the 3rd game ✅Players with Remake saves receive unknown summon materia when they start Rebirth ✅Mini-games have been expanded: In one of the. Cloud collects soldiers and arrange them in Rufus Shinra's inauguration parade for different results ✅Chocobos expand world exploration with different breeds unique to each region, each with their own ability like climbing or flying..etc ✅Playable Sephiroth flashbacks ✅Character-specific skill trees and lots of customizations ✅New Materia and synergy abilities ✅Many Summons including Alexander, Odin.etc) with side quests based on some summons

The Wild Rings on the original XBOX. Great graphics and arcade gameplay. The caveat is the fact that Grapples require button mashing; yet there's a plethora of Wrestlers, legends, UFC fighters and even sumo Wrestlers to choose from.
The game never received a western port, and was largely overshadowed by the likes of KOC, along with the Smackdown series at the time.
