Me too. I loved those things back in the day. I even had the ring with the little fork like things that held them. It was like a miniature version of Rock'em Sock'em Robots. I would definitely buy more of them!

Finally, Miura's 13 volumes of Berserk are all finally released in hard cover deluxe format. Been collecting them over the course of four or five years as they've been coming out. Before Miura died he said Berserk was only 80% finished. It will be interesting to see how much Kouji adds in now that he has taken over. All I know for sure is that there will be a volume 14 where Kouji picks up the story, but that could be years away. I have so much Berserk the shelf is actually bowing in.
Still have two more volumes of Blade of the Immortal to come out.
Also working on Fist of the North Star with 8 of the 15 volumes released so far. Might also go for the whole Dorohedoro series this summer as soon as the car is paid off and I can buy all 24 volumes in one go.

I liked that series, I remember watching the first few episodes on crunchy roll (I think…), then hitting a paywall. I’d love to check that out! I’m surprised there’s not more wrestling anime out there, but I guess pro wrestling has cooled off substantially since the inception of series like the original Tiger Mask and Kinnikuman. Crazy to see the actual NJPW guys in there, too!

Watching this youtube video about recommended Dark Fantasy anime
Already have Berserk, Claymore, Goblin Slayer and Shigurui. Was going to order Basilisk but Amazon said I already own the boxset from years ago, so I checked my shelves and sure enough I found it, I just never got around to watching it yet.
Did just get Dororo and Arslan based on this video and will likely pick up Kingdom next pay day.

Dororo is nuts, I’d highly recommend it! The premise is so bad ass. I read the limited manga rerelease that was done a while back, and I think one version of the anime is still on Prime Video. There was even a PS2 game, Blood Will Tell, based on the story. I’m a die hard Osamu Tezuka fan, and just like the rest of his stuff, this story needs to make a resurgence!

Long time anime/manga retailer The Right Stuf was just bought up by CrunchyRoll. Sucks because it means they are going to jack up the price of already expensive physical anime in order to try and encourage people to join their streaming service. They are offering a discount on everything in stock with the Promo code ThankYou. So I made what will likely be my last order from them, at least under the old management.
I had been buying from them since the VHS days back in the 90’s.

First episode of the animated Kenshin reboot is out now. It's fantastic. I got to it late and am only up to like episode 4 but I'm shocked at how incredible this remake is. It follows the more serious tone of the manga and the fights are already better than the original anime was. I don't like the theme song as much though - nothing can replace Freckles! I have been waiting over a decade (and most fans have been waiting longer) for the manga version of the Enishi/Jinchuu arc. I have complete confidence this team will pull it off. In the meantime, I'm really looking forward to the Oniwabanshu story and the Kyoto arc. I can never get enough Kenshin/Shishio and I can't wait to see how they present that fight. Hopefully the BGM is equivalent in quality. Also - I watched Vinland Saga last month and it was one of the best things (anime or otherwise) I've seen in years. Absolutely blown away by it. I can't wait for Season 3 to be confirmed. |
