Thanks BakFu! Yeah it's been a while since I've seen new flicks. For the record, I loved Hateful Eight! Probably my 4th fave Tarantino flick (behind Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs, and just ahead of Django Unchained), see my review below.
The Hateful Eight - Put a bunch of grizzled ruffians in a room, have them spurt tough yet loquacious dialog at each other for a good while, then have some of them get shot in extremely gory ways. Rinse, repeat. It's a well worn formula for Tarantino, but the script and acting are so absurdly good (Jackson, Russell and Goggins are amazing) that the three hours fly by. Thank the cinema gods that someone is making quality big budget westerns in Hollywood again. 9/10

Thor: Ragnarok - Thor, Loki, Hulk and Valkyrie team up to stop Hela from destroying Asgard. A big, stupid action movie jam packed with bright colors, silly humor and several showstopping CGI fantasy battle sequences. I've said it before and I'll say it again, superhero movies are way better when they don't take themselves seriously at all. This one has the distinct feeling of taking the piss out of the rest of the Marvel Universe, which I fully endorse and appreciate. Thank you, Taika Waititi. 7.5/10
I just saw Thor: Dark World last night for the first time. I liked it a lot better than a lot of people seemed to at the time it was released but I didn't like it as much as Ragnarok. (and yeah, it's weird I saw the third movie before the second one!) I REALLY liked Ragnarok, it was one of my favorite individual Avenger movies. I thought Hela's actress did a good job with what she was given but her character just seemed kind of ridiculous. I did like the way Thor dealt with her though. That was really clever as a strategy and an overall storyline within the movie and the overall Thor series. I loved Infinity War and Endgame, like way more than I imagined I would. I was pretty much blown away by Endgame so much that I've been trying to fill in the MCU movies I happened to miss over the past few years. I still have these non-Avenger title "stand-alone" movies to watch: Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, both Spidermans, and both Antmans. I also never saw Iron Man 2 (which apparently may have been a good thing). I also checked out Age of Ultron for a second time a few weeks ago (after seeing it years ago) and liked it MUCH more than the first time I had seen it. I want to watch the Hateful Eight at some point too, as well as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

"Hela's actress" was two time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett ;)
and yeah the fact that her character was so ridiculous was what I loved about it.

Marvel and Disney have really made the most out of their blank canvas for comic book movies. Endgame was just the ultimate culmination of over a decade of excellent work. Not saying every Marvel movie was great, but it was well summarized in the end and I don't see it being topped anytime soon.
Ragnarok was a well-timed break from the norm for the Marvel Universe in many ways like Deadpool was. Just some great exaggered stuff and really funny scenes.
The Hateful Eight in my opinion is criminally underrated compared to the rest of Tarantino's work. I agree with Deni that it's a fantastic western with some stellar acting especially by Jennifer Jason Leigh.

I have a tendency to find something to like about movies that most everyone hates.
I liked Battlefield: Earth. I used to own the VHS and even owned the book.
I enjoyed Batman v Superman (Yes there were some big mistakes, but I still liked it)
I liked Hulk, the 2003 Hulk. I thought the father-son turmoil added depth to the Banner character...plus some scenes when they transitioned looked like comic book panels.
I liked Justice League. I dunno why people crapped on it.
The latest film that got crapped on that I enjoyed is John Carter. I watched it on Netflix and I thought it was decent. The premise was original, and seeing an adaptaion of something by Burroughs besides Tarzan was a nice change of pace. Too bad that trilogy won't happen.

Not saying every Marvel movie was great, but it was well summarized in the end and I don't see it being topped anytime soon. There was a period where a ton of movies had come out and I just kinda didn't have the energy to keep up. But I'm glad I still watched Infinity War earlier this year cause it got me super pumped for Endgame which then gave me the motivation to start filling in the blanks that led up to it. I still have a lot to watch but I find that I am anticipating them more knowing what they are specifically leading up to than I was before. I do think they should have put more room in between the releases of Captain Marvel and Endgame though. Ragnarok was a well-timed break from the norm for the Marvel Universe in many ways like Deadpool was. Just some great exaggered stuff and really funny scenes. I was surprised how genuinely funny it was! That really goes for the entire MCU but especially Thor 3. I guess Mjolnir is the perfect tool for a rim shot 🥃🔨

I'd recommend going back and checking the whole series out in order at some point, because there are so many seeds planted/call-forwards that you don't even realize it when you're first watching, but when you go back knowing how things turn out, you see all these little seeds and they become kind of "oh shit" moments themselves. It's probably why you liked Ultron so much better the second time - SO many things in that movie carry so much more weight when you know what happens later. I actually don't hate Iron Man 2. It's a little slower, a little darker, and not as satisfyingly climactic as some of the others, but it starts introducing some major things to the at-large universe, and Mickey Rourke plays the hell out of the villain. There are also a few call-forwards that are bigger moments in retrospect. So it's like the slower part of a really good movie (meaning the MCU as a whole) - there might be more entertaining parts to the movie, but it still adds something to it. The ones you haven't seen yet are pretty damn good. Ant-Man (both) won't change your life, but they're fun, and the they're the "worst" of the ones you haven't seen, IMO. I haven't really disenjoyed any of the Marvel movies, though.

Finally got my copy of John Wick 3 which literally continues playing the movie as literally one big ongoing film rather than individual films. Loved it. Thankfully continuing to avoid some of the action genre tropes I've come to loathe over the decades including post kill one liners and shoehorned in love story's. Compliments the first volume of the John Wick comic which I recently bought as well. Gives some glimpses of John's back story as a child and his first major rivals. Coming in the mail now is the Unbreakable trilogy. Loved Unbreakable and realized I don't have it on blu ray. So I ordered it along with the two follow up films which I have yet see. Also ordered Battle Angel Alita. I liked the original anime and if the movie turns out to be half decent it may inspire me to pick up the manga boxset on Amazon.

I saw Alita in the cinema, even though I'd never seen the manga or the anime, it was friggin awesome.

After Age of Ultron, the most important Marvel single character movies to watch to connect the Infinity War/Endgame pieces in my opinion would be:
Captain America: Civil War Doctor Strange Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 Thor: Ragnarok's post-credits scene Black Panther Ant-Man and The Wasp (mainly for the post-credits scene to bridge Infinity War and Endgame)

I saw Alita in the cinema, even though I'd never seen the manga or the anime, it was friggin awesome. Last week I rented Godzilla: King of the Monsters from Redbox.
Today I rented Jason Bourne.
Alita Battle Angel is what I plan on renting next week.

After Age of Ultron, the most important Marvel single character movies to watch to connect the Infinity War/Endgame pieces in my opinion would be: Captain America: Civil War Doctor Strange Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 Thor: Ragnarok's post-credits scene Black Panther Ant-Man and The Wasp (mainly for the post-credits scene to bridge Infinity War and Endgame) I really enjoyed Civil War when I first saw it (shortly after it came out) and loved it when I watched it again a few weeks ago. I thought it played off of Age of Ultron and bridged to Infinity War so well. I really want to see Doctor Strange and Black Panther. Guardians 2 kind of disappointed me. I loved the first one but I dunno, I should give it another chance since my opinion on Age of Ultron changed so much. That's exactly it. I could appreciate Age of Ultron SOOO much more when I saw how it directly connected to Infinity War but also how it built to it. Part of my frustration initially with Ultron was that I knew Thanos was coming and I just couldn't buy Ultron as enough of a threat to build to Thanos. But I realized after watching it again that it was really never about Ultron but the relationship between the Avengers (especially leading to Civil War) and some of the other developments (like introduction of Scarlet Witch). I also liked Ultron more this time around and appreciated Tony Stark's own conflict more. Yeah, I gotta give that a try. I want to watch Iron Man 3 again too since I liked that a lot. The ones you haven't seen yet are pretty damn good. Ant-Man (both) won't change your life, but they're fun, and the they're the "worst" of the ones you haven't seen, IMO. I haven't really disenjoyed any of the Marvel movies, though. I've heard good things about Ant-Man overall but I just haven't felt so drawn in by it. He was very good in Infinity War and Endgame though but I want to see Dr. Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel first.

Some people are kinda down on Dr. Strange but I REALLY like it, it's actually one of my favorite "intro" movies. I really dig that the sorcery is really kinetic and kind of martial-artsy. Like, fights in this movie could have easily been guys waving their hands at each other making light shows, and they're SO not - fights are a constant blur of guys creating weapons, opening portals, bending time, and all sort of reality-warping stuff to land or avoid a hit.
It's like one of those martial arts movies where martial arts give you mystical powers, taken up to eleven. It gives the movie a different "vibe" than most other superhero movies and I really like that about it.

That sounds awesome! I see it's actually gonna be airing on TBS on 9/27 so I DVR'd it.
I didn't know how they'd portray his magic but doing it with a martial arts perspective is REALLY cool to me. The fights sound great too. There's a lot that can be done to portray magic dueling but it doesn't always work.
I really liked his character in Ragnarok and Infinity War.
