Some people are kinda down on Dr. Strange but I REALLY like it, it's actually one of my favorite "intro" movies. I really dig that the sorcery is really kinetic and kind of martial-artsy. Like, fights in this movie could have easily been guys waving their hands at each other making light shows, and they're SO not - fights are a constant blur of guys creating weapons, opening portals, bending time, and all sort of reality-warping stuff to land or avoid a hit. It's like one of those martial arts movies where martial arts give you mystical powers, taken up to eleven. It gives the movie a different "vibe" than most other superhero movies and I really like that about it. I loved Dr Strange as well, it’s probably my favourite of the intro movies. I loved the comics back in the day and was shocked that they made a movie based on him in the first place (and really, Ant Man, Black Panther, and even Guardians of the Galaxy, all fairly obscure choices to pump giant piles of cash into to sell to non comic book fans, I am glad they did though!). I don’t get the bad rep it has amongst the MCU movies, and come on, Mads Mikkelsen and Rachel McAdams in there, too, how can you not like it? I need to watch this again, soon!

Based on some recommendations from Red Letter Media, just watched Bone Tomahawk. Really liked it, whole movie would make an excellent side quest in either of the Red Dead Redemption games. Being that it deals with cave folk cannibals, expect some gore.
Also picked up Mandy. A psychedelic horror film starring Nicolas Cage bent on getting revenge against a christian fringe cult responsible for the death his girl, complete with forging his own monster slaying axe and a chainsaw duel.

“Some gore” in bone tomahawk, I like that, very cute! 🙂
That was a messed up movie, and yeah, good call on the RDR quest thing, it really would make for a cool departure! The cannibals were friggin creepy, I was never quite sure if I was meant to be laughing or wincing in horror in that one. Got to see my boy Kurt Russell kick ass, so I didn’t care, just enjoyed the ride!

BakFu, I've heard murmurings that since Marvel now has control of the Fantastic Four film rights, we might see Silver Surfer and even big G himself in the not too distant MCU future And yeah, a Martian Manhunter movie would be welcome but I don't trust the people currently in charge of DC Comics films to not to screw it up. "Maybe" they're turning a corner with Aquaman and Shazam both receiving varying degrees of praise and selling well (Aquaman much more than Shazam) but I just don't trust them yet. Personally, I'd love to see them do another Green Lantern movie, one that skips the origin of Hal Jordan and introduces at least one more Earth Lantern while having Sinestro as the primary antagonist (honestly, Sinestro was by far and away the best thing about the first film that we're not supposed to acknowledge). The Green Lantern Corps and their various allies/enemies is just too expansive to NOT utilize because of one poorly executed film.

Pretty good comparison video of Alita from the anime to film.

Just saw an older Filipino movie called "Manila in the Claws of Light"
It's very good.
It's one of those films where the setting is as much a character as the ones portrayed by actors. Manila under the rule of Ferdinand Marcos as seen through the eyes of a newcomer from the distant countryside. The film is not particularly forgiving about the starkness of the setting or the plights of the character therein.
If you like studies into the psyche and how people react to their settings, I would suggest that you give this one a look.

I am working through Star Wars Prequel and Original trilogies.
Ep. I always disappointed me...then after watching it with the "Darth Jar Jar" theory...makes me wonder what if George had followed through on Jar Jar like was rumored. The idea of him being the equivalent of a drunk kung fu master made him a bit more tolerable. No hate on Jake Lloyd, but Anakin was too young.
I saw Attack of the Clones in theater...my first thought was that it was so much better than Phantom Menace. Every time I rewatch it, I can't help but wish that Anakin's age in Ep. II would have been his age in Ep I. Makes the "too old to begin training" more sensible.
Ep. III Palpatine made the movie...seeing how he moved every piece into place on the board was genius. Some loose ends exist with the execution but out of the prequels, Ep. III was my fav and the one that felt the most like Star Wars.
Ever since Disney took a piss on Star Wars, it seems like it's becoming trendy to support the prequels. I've always liked 2 out of the 3 prequels, and so it's nice to go back to them.

The new Star Wars trilogy definitely made me find a new appreciation for the prequel trilogy. Just watching the new trilogy makes me feel uneasy. I think it was Red Letter Media that described it like a teenagers bad Star Wars fanfiction.
Also seeing all the press junkets of Mark Hamill on youtube alternating between anger, disgust and that one where he looks so heartbroken he sits there with his head down and almost cries and I just want to crack Rian Johnson in the teeth for that, I'm hoping the Warhammer 40k tv show does well since Disney has been a terminal illness for the Star Wars ip and I haven't even bothered watching the Star Trek reboot.

I'm one of those people that thinks episode 8 is the best star wars movie. I get a lot of hate for it. But I really like kylo and I like how it turned star wars story telling on its head. I'm not really a fan of seven though and think 9 is probably gonna be bad.

Yes, seeing how they treated the Luke character in TLJ was disgusting, seeing how they treated Hamill is disgusting, and now seeing how Lucas felt betrayed by Disney is disgusting.
What I hate is how the entertainment industry is blatantly putting radical left wing politics in everything, then when people reject, they get the surprised Picachu face then get triggered.
No one wants extreme politics forced down their throats. I don't want alt-right or leftist philosophy. Both are fascists in one way or another. I just want to enjoy a decent movie/tv show.
The political climate makes me sick sometimes.
I'll stick with Prequel and Original trilogies...and as for Star Trek, a couple of months ago I bought a set of the 10 OS Crew and TNG Crew movies for less than $25. I already rewatched them. Being a Christian, I obviously disagree with Gene's vision of a totally materialistic universe devoid of God's existence...but you know...I still enjoy it as a work of fiction and the fact that any left wing ideology in Star Trek is a moderate left and is more tolerable.
Call me crazy...but my favorite era in the Federation is the movie era. I love the Miranda class ship and the Starfleet uniforms in the movies.

I'm of the belief that the only reason episodes 1-3 exist was to drive toy sales.

I liked episode 3, I thought it had the most potential to legitimize Star Wars as something more than a merchandising tool, if they’d have darkened the story and maybe changed it to an M rating, it COULD have been an epic origin story for one of the most recognizable and iconic bad guys in film history. Ep 2 was pretty cool, liked the clone backstory, loved the Fett story, but yeah, Star Wars set the bar very high, our nostalgic recollection of the story set it even higher, so I really think there is no way anyone would have been satisfied no mater how the prequels could potentially have been handled.
I checked out Brightnurn last night, it was alright. Very M Night Shyalaman feel to it, and the whole “what if super man had a malevolent bent instead of wanting to protect humanity” idea was cool. It was a bit predictable and the story development felt a bit too rushed (with a bit more meat on its bones, this could have been killer!) but still entertaining.

Yes, but like...this was overkill even by Star Wars standards and in my opinion it was rushed by Lucas to avoid losing copyright protection which would explain the quality of the prequels.
