Noticed we haven't had one of these set up yet on the Club.
Main thing that prompted me to create this one was seeing the trailer for Godzilla 2. Can't remember the last time I saw a trailer that got me as psyched as this one just did.

The last movie I watched was The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Yeah, I know. But the other two LEGO movies were amusing so I figured the hell with it, lets give it a crack because it's on Netflix. It ended up being a decent and amusing, albeit not to the degree as the other two, film.
The last movie I saw in theaters was Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I mean, I enjoyed the film but I'd never actually say it was a good movie. There's a part where a dinosaur basically smirks and winks at the camera before attacking a guy. It was a live action cartoon. There was a Donald Trump parody. It was a god damn mess. But I went into it expecting dinosaurs and they gave me what I paid for so I can't complain.

I went to Solo within the first week it was open and I loved it except for one thing that will be spoiler tagged at the end. I think part of why I liked it so much was it could have been a generic sci-fi film without the Star Wars brand. I guess I'm just getting tired of lightsabers and the force and all that. I've heard not much but hate and I don't know why but I'm also not the type of person to hate shit because it's the trend to do now. Fuck shoehorning Darth Maul in though. He was never a good character to begin with and they should have left him dead and, as far as it concerned me, forgotten.

I just came to look for this thread for exactly the reason Sen posted.
That trailer gave me a spiritual awakening lmao.

Is that Tywin Lannister in a Godzilla movie? awesome.
Deadpool 2 - More of the same, which is an ok thing in my book. Hyperviolent slapstick with enough fourth-wall-breaking metahumor to choke a horse. The X-Force death sequence was an absolute scream. 7.5/10
God of War - A young Ming dynasty general trains an army of peasants to combat a horde of invading Japanese pirates. Plenty of chaotic, gory battle action, as well a couple of fantastic one on one fight scenes. Sammo Hung and Yasuaki Kurata, a pair of Hong Kong veterans from the 70s golden era of kung fu, both show off some incredible skills for guys who have got to be pushing 70 years old. 7.5/10

Ready Player One - Definitely nowhere near as good as the book. As per most book to film adaptations stuff changed or completely removed. Unfortunately stuff they changed around for the movie was some really important stuff in the book. But I guess with the story of the book spanning several years they pretty much had to streamline it. Probably would have made a decent TV series if it wanted to follow the book. Also disappointed that they changed all the Key challenges from the book, but I guess they pretty much had to as no one born outside of the 80's would understand all the references or the methodical nature or the puzzles, changing them to action challenges in the movie.
On the plus side ART3MIS using Kaneda's bike from Akira in the opening race was a highlight for me.

I loathed Ready Player One, the book, and haven't seen the movie. However, I am very disappointed that the first challenge in the movie wasn't depicted as Wade and Acererak playing a game of Joust! on an arcade console.

I saw The Hitman's Bodyguard last night. It was fun. I really enjoyed this movie as well, and "fun" is the perfect description! Just checked out Hell or High Water and Aliens: Covenant over the past couple of days. Hell or High Water was pretty awesome, Jeff Bridges basically revisits his interpretation of Rooster Cogburn from True Grit again, and Chris Pine did a good job with his role, so overall it was pretty bad ass. Aliens: Covenant was a nice surprise, I was hoping it would be good and I was pleasantly surprised. Mostly an unknown cast with the exception of eastbound and down and Magneto, the story was pretty cool, and tied up Prometheus nicely. It was a little disjointed at times, but overall a good sign for the future of what seems to be a no brainer, no risk, sequel generating monster that usually falls on its beautiful, shiny, xenomorphic double set of teeth. I hope the Alien franchise builds some momentum after this one.

I watched an Indiana Jones movie for the first time this year. I liked it quite a bit and I gotta get around to watching the rest of them.
This weekend I think I might watch RoboCop which I've never seen.

This weekend I think I might watch RoboCop which I've never seen. The original is brilliant (make sure you find a copy of the X-rated version to keep all the tasty ultraviolence intact). The remake is hot garbage.

The remake is hot garbage. The original all the way, I am excited for you! The remake is analogous to the XBOX 360 fire pro game, fire pro in name ONLY. (haha, "Can you FLY, Bobby?"). Ninjabrute, have you seen the original Predator yet?...

Yeah I've seen Predator once... but was tripping at the time (many years ago) and have never gone back to re-watch it. TBH I don't know if it would live up to the experience.
