Well, this is marginally interesting, and more or less in my back yard (i.e. 3.5 hrs away) m.facebook.com/p/100083209298131/I had no idea Dungeon Wrestling was a thing. Stampede resurrections have been attempted before with little success (Mauro Ranello was the commentator for one iteration with Bad News Allen on colour, he moved to English commentary for PRIDE FC with Bas after that), so I’m not getting excited about this, but hopefully they take it for a bit of a run and have a bit of success! I noticed the promotion name and the upcoming event when I read this. It’s odd, too, because I finally watched the AEW show with Omega vs Vikingo Jr, caught the first match (6 man tag with sting/Darby/casidy vs butcher/blade/some guy named Kip…), and thought “who is this aimed at, and what the hell would the top guys of the past thirty to forty years think of this?”. I guess I got one answer 🤣 wrestlingnews.co/.amp/wwe-news/bret-hart-i-see-20-wrestlers-crowd-together-outside-on-the-floor-of-the-ring-and-some-guy-runs-over-and-dives-its-getting-too-phony

Saw my first AEW Battle of the Belts today, I was happy to see it was available to watch and thought “sweet, there should be some good ones on this episode “. I seriously can’t believe this shit wasn’t on AEW Dark, I don’t know if I was just expecting too much, but this wasn’t for me at all. First match was BAD, OC versus some dude in a mask. I try to see what the appeal of Cassidy is, I just don’t get him. I’m trying to keep an open mind, but I’m not getting anything coming back my way. The match stunk, clash of styles, Lucha guys timing seemed off, maybe it had to do with buddy’s insistence of keeping his hands in his pockets, nerves, or maybe he needs more work, but nope, not for me.
Jade looks perfect for pro wrestling, that physique and her look, but she doesn’t seem to get any better or more INTERESTING! Her opponent looked like she made her gear in the back of a highway maintenance truck. This was a bad one, and there was never a doubt that jade would maintain her perfect record against this girl (so why watch it? Better question, why did it get so much TV time on a SPECIAL?!).
The one highlight of this special was seeing Powerhouse Hobbes. I remember a time when I used to think “if only I could see more cool, high flying, acrobatic stuff, or crazy, contortionist Japanese style finishers, and less big, jacked up guys just throwing their weight around”. Fast forward a decade or two, and about a million over the top rope flips and topes to the floor later, and now Hobbes feels like a breath of fresh air! The guy is a truck of a man, blasting guys around the ring, using his big frame and strength to derail the high flyers. It looked great to see him smash the Lucha Bros, but not so good when he sold their crazier, over the top floor routine shit. I’d love to see more of Hobbes, put his partner back behind the scenes and let this guy shine, he needs a huge push!
My take away from this event? Don’t bother looking for these in the future, it doesn’t seem like Tony takes the events seriously. Also, I want to see more Powerhouse Hobbes! 🙂

The legendary Terry Funk has died at the age of 79.
To say this is a huge loss to the sport is an understatement.

I watched AEW Dynamite from last week this morning, and it got me thinking, when do you let go and say enough is enough as a pro wrestler/athlete?
I watched Jeff Hardy have a match with Swerve, he and his brother Matt hobbling out to the ring. The fans appreciate them, and he could still do some of his old spots, and you could see him perk up as the match progressed, but everything looks painful, and as decent a match as it was thanks to Swerve, the win over Jeff really didn’t do anything to elevate him. A match for the sake of a match, with Jeff losing more of his dwindling relevance.
As pointless as it felt to watch Jeff lose, the real hard one was Minoru Suzuki and Edge. I’ve enjoyed Suzuki for decades and he has a cool spot in the history of both pro wrestling and the foundation of modern pro fighting. Suzuki is a pioneer, and he deserves to be recognized as such, but this match was sad. Everyone gets old, some do it more gracefully than others, and Suzuki is in great shape for a guy his age with the hard yards he has on him, but I wish he’d stop. Maybe he still wants to go, maybe he needs to for the money, maybe Tony’s endless pit pockets are too good a payday to pass up, but if all of these guys, promoter included , respect and revere this guy as much as it seems they do, quit putting him in matches.
I’m glad sting is done, I just hope he doesn’t end up badly hurt before or during his last match.
It has to be hard to let go for so many reasons, and other wrestlers and promoters need to stop enabling these people unless they can use them in a limited way, or an alternative capacity that lets the legends maintain their presence and mystique. I guess it’s hard to extinguish that fire after years of that high of being in front of a crowd either cheering or wanting to kill them, everyone wanting a picture or an autograph, or even just to be near you because you’re a hero. Sorry, the disparity between the capabilities of the wrestlers on this episode were hard to watch, and I’m just rambling.

I think of the contemporaries I'm leaning more towards
Megan Bayne (flying/diving)
MIRAI
Maika
Saya Iida
Bayley- I may like her sliding one more than the Creed Bros even
GUNTHER
Takeshita
Takagi still has the Ryu(u)kon and Pumping Bomber
Dragunov
