I will DEFINITELY be checking out Thesz vs Gagne, that sounds amazing. Thanks for the heads up! I feel you on the Southern style. I’d never been exposed except to the few remnants of it that were left on WCW (and there wasn’t much) by the time it started showing up here on TV. There’s something cool about it, it’s almost as much about the crowd reaction as it is what’s going on in the ring. The fourth wall stood in the south for a long time, and it had an impact on the quality of the product. I wanted to try WWE network to see some old southern territory stuff, then it switched to peacock, and I’m not touching that. I’ll have to find as much as I can Outside of that source. Glad you’re finding some good stuff there in spite of the owner of the content. I’m nervous about a non wrestling entity controlling what is effectively the video footage history of North American pro Wrestling over the past 75 years or so, and even the publicly traded WWE left things as they were, hopefully peacock doesn’t cull too much. 🙁 Classic stuff getting cut for the sake of PC is definitely a concern. I haven't tried watching ECW yet, and that's an easy target for culling.
Like I expressed before, I'm afraid whoever gets to be the censor may cut stuff out with understanding the context.
At least they aren't trying to mess around with bloody brawls. The Piper vs Valentine Dog Collar match from Starrcade 83 is there in all its barbaric splendor.
106 N. Albany is a You Tube channel showing a lot of classic CWF (Florida Territory) footage. As I wasn't exposed to much of the NWA when I was a kid, I thought JCP was the center of the NWA that became WCW. I was able to see just how big a part the CWF played and it made me appreciate Buddy Colt.

I've been watching Smokey Mountain Wrestling on youtube. The Bruise Brothers have showed up and I'm not sure but it looks like one of them has no nipples. I remember when they were in the WWF someone telling me they wore vests because one of them had some kind of surgery and his nipples were pulled back to his sides. I don't know where they heard this since it was before the internet, but I don't thinks it's true. It looks like he has horizontal scars where his nips should be. I've looked online but can't find anything. Does anybody know the real story?

I don’t usually care for these “cinematic” matches, but the build up and the execution was great in this case. This felt like two competitive brothers just squashing that internal aggression and animosity, and I love these guys, from the first time I saw them I thought “holy shit, these guys aren’t playing a role, I think these might just be two crazy hillbillies!”. The world deserves to see The Briscoes vs FTR. 😁

MLW Battle Riot III 40 men Battle Royale ...errr... Battle Riot. Love the thumbnail. Resembles the old WWF Royal Rumble 92 & 93 artwork.

Ive been reading Hooker by Lou Thesz, a great look at the history of American pro wrestling, and a great tie in / prelude to Death of the Territories. I’m not that far in, but Thesz talks with reverence of Joe Stecher, a name I was ignorant to prior to reading this book. I’ve looked up quite a few names while reading Hooker (George Tragos, Ray Steele, the Dusek Riot Squad, etc), but upon looking up Stecher, I found this amazing bit of footage from MSG in 1920. The quality is, well, that of a hundred year old film roll, but parts of it still look great. This is a real treat and a look WAAAY back into the business.

Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of Battlarts closing for the last time. It held it's final event on 11.5.2011. Here's a quick clip from a Battlarts match from Kitsasenju Theater 1010.
Also, YouTube Channel RassinMemories has a lot of Battlarts events for anyone interested.

I love the house logo on the mat with the nice little family in it, you know, the one right under the feet of the guy getting his head kicked into the cheap seats! 🙂 Hard to believe that’s been gone for ten years… Speaking of ancient history, I checked out a few early 80s Mid south Wrestling episodes. I saw a pair of wet behind the ears young lads called Jim Ross and Jim Cornette, a very green but skilled and serious looking guy named Marty Lundy 🤣, one of their ring announcers looked like something Mike judge would have created as a substitute teacher for Beavis and butthead, Joel Watts was part of the announce team for a few programs I saw, nepotism does NOT always work.😁 I also saw some great wrestling, Ted Dibiasse, Buddy Landel, Butch Reed (a VERY JACKED butch reed in one match), a young and crazy-over rock n roll express vs the midnight express (Robert Gibson had an amazing vertical drop kick! And the shrill screams of the 50% teenaged girl crowd that team brought in is something to hear!). By the time I saw him in this stuff, Ernie Ladd was starting to look a bit long in the tooth, but wow, a few times I saw him he looked like Andre at a glance, what a specimen, and that VOICE! Probably the biggest surprise was seeing a young, very fit, super over Sylvester Ritter, aka JYD! It was cool to see how over Dog was with that salty ass crowd (territory wrestling crowds are now a major incentive/ curiosity for me to watch the classic stuff, they’re incredible!). The mid south crowd seemed like a vocal bunch, they’d let you know if they liked you or not, but EVERYONE was jumping up and down for JYD! Can’t wait to check out more!

The older stuff is so much better than anything today. I've been watching Mid Atlantic wrestling. It's interesting the see the beginning of wrestlers I know from later in their careers. Like seeing Tony Anthony aka The Dirty White Boy as a jobber sporting a fro. There is a guy named Jim Nelson who is one of Sgt Slaughter's recruits. He later goes on to be Boris Zhukov in WWF. Then there is Dizzy Hogan who becomes Brutus Beefcake.

Wow, William Regal and Samoa Joe are out on their asses?! Almost seems like WWE isn’t interested in pro wrestling anymore 🤣
Rick Steiner’s kid looks like a million bucks, hopefully he doesn’t end up wearing a silly hat, playing a trombone to the ring, or making choo choo train noises any time soon

It's shocking that they would release both of them. Something is going on in WWE that is very different than in the past. I don't know if they want to just totally transform it for new management (or perhaps totally new buyers). Not only do they seem to be targeting HHH allies and removing them from leadership positions (on air and backstage), but they are actively firing people who could help them and giftwrapping them for AEW.
I get that Samoa Joe has had a lot of injuries recently but he would be so great to have on hand for training and as a personality.
Regal is literally one of the best in every single aspect of professional wrestling and has been for 30+ years. If they are just firing him because he's close with "Triple-Aitch", then that shows a pettiness that I didn't even think Vince possessed. Is Vince and HHH really on the outs or is it just someone else in the front office? I don't know. It's really weird, even for them. I get that they want to ruin "creatively restructure" NXT so that they can "X" out the wrestling but why can't they keep Regal on as a trainer or something like that? If WWE can't find a role for Regal, then they don't know what they are doing. He could literally perform every on-screen role better than anyone currently there. And he has already been given a ton of credit from up and comers about his ability to train and work with people too.
I hope we see Regal and Samoa Joe in AEW in some role - even as backstage trainers.
I could see Regal outright retiring now but I'd prefer him to go out with his head held high (and not after a firing), even if it's just after an official retirement ceremony in AEW after a year working there as a personality.

Watched Bruiser Brody vs Terry Funk from AJPW in 1982 the other day on YouTube. Just a wild brawl. Brody started out by kicking Funk in the side of the head like 5 times and Terry was bleeding like a stuck pig from his ear. They spent more time out of the ring than in it, and it ended in a no contest when Stan Hansen ran in and Dory Funk came in to save Terry. What a violent cluster. God bless pro wrestling.
