Dixie Dy-no-mite is definitely an artifact of a less aware past in wrestling though. Yikes. If you think Dixie is bad wait until you see the Storm Trooper in episode 26. Finally got there, wow! Simpler times! Swaztikas vs confederate flags. It’s crazy to see now, but the crowd was just watching a match with a guy they could cheer for and one they could hate. Now entertainment is all about titties and bare asses flying around, opening boxes of toys, playing video games and swearing while wearing a silly hat or sitting in a hot tub with your tits out, or being completely talentless but somehow relevant simply by having your sex tape “leaked”. Six of one, half dozen of the other. 🤣 On a more positive note, the more I see of Buddy Landel, the more I like him, and the more wasteful it seems to me that he couldn’t get the help he needed to realize his full potential without having been derailed by addiction. He’s the total package (pun not intended), great promos, solid in ring work, and he legit has a dangerous look to him. It would have been cool to see him jostling with the top guys of the day for the title. I’ll have to look for his pre SMW stuff, apparently he wasn’t at the top of his game in this promotion.

I just got through watching 1885 Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling and Buddy Landell was on some of the episodes. I think that was his first big push. I'm watching 85 Mid West now and he's on it too but I haven't seen him win a match yet. In Mid Atlantic he was going after Flair, but I don't know if they ever wrestled or not. It's sad because I think they could have had some good matches. One thing that stands out to me about him is his elbow drop. He gets so high in the air.

Landells 1st push was actually in Mid South in 84. He would form an alliance with Butch Reed. One of the better storylines was Skandar Akbar was using Buddy as the middle man to get Reed to join Devastation Inc. The whole thing would backfire & Reed would end up turning babyface. Buddy had a brief run as their TV Champion. He would move to JCP/Mid Atlantic in 85 where he was managed by JJ Dillion. He called himself "The Real Nature Boy" He & Flair did wrestle he even claimed he beat Flair via Pinfall. It never really took off as a feud as Flair was involved with Nikita Koloff and then the heel turn & the formation of the Four Horseman. Buddy did go on to win the National Heavyweight Title from Terry Taylor at Starrcade 85 but then he ended up fired by Crockett for failing a drug test i believe. They would have a phantom title change where Dusty Rhodes became National Champion. Buddy would move on to Memphis after that.

I haven't seen any Mid-South from 84, but the handful I've watched from 85 he's there but hasn't spoken or wrestled yet. He has been beaten up a few times and knocked out while doing run ins. So I thought they were using him more as a mid-card used to put the top guys over. But again, I haven't watched very many episodes yet.

So for those who are tired of the current cartoonish Wrestling or Sports Entertainment I highly recommend watching some old school wrestling if you have peacock or WWE Network for those of you outside of US
I've been doing this a while been having a lot of fun watching stuff i never seen & stuff I've seen when it happened but reliving it again.
So I'm into December 1986 for the all the shows listed below:
My Watchlist (* = what service i watch on)
CWA(Memphis From seen every episode from Dec 85 on)* Youtube World Class(Started from 1st Episode Jan 82 on)*Peacock UWF(Formerly Mid South From Dec 81 on)*Youtube Mid Atlantic/JCP WCW (From Sept 81 on)*Youtube & Peacock WWF Prime Time (From April 86 on)*Peacock WWF Wrestling Challenge (from 1st episode Sept 86 on)*Peacock
Also been watching the Original ECW (From 1st Episode 1993 currently in April 1998)*Peacock

Considering how much of a fan Tony is of classic ROH (and Trips' workrate heavy version of NXT) I wouldn't be surprised if he does something similar with it. If he rehires Gabe as booker I will be impressed since Delirious needs to be kicked to the curb ASAP.
Seeing as ROH really reignited my love of wrestling years ago I'm looking forward to see where it goes under the ownership of a passionate wrestling nerd like Tony.

With the mix of great talent AEW has that doesn't get a lot of time it'll be great for them. Mix in some of the great modern ROH talent (Gresham, The Briscoes, etc) it'll be exciting to watch.

Reading the results of the AEW PPV from last night. After the Danielson vs. Moxley match, this brilliance happened:

^it was a good show from start to finish
I didn't particularly enjoy the women's match but that's 100% on the booking, not the performers themselves (they're dragging out a story that should have already had a conclusion; they just don't gel well together imo and they insist on doing the same kind of finish over and over)
The rest of it was pretty good and the two big surprises were well done, especially the one that Geese mentioned.
I'm not a fan of CM Punk or MJF or even "hardcore" wrestling but it's hard to say that they didn't steal the show. Amazing storytelling with that one.
The Triple Threat tornado tag title match was also exemplary. The other matches were certainly entertaining and worth a watch but those two really stood out (even if I still hate the way the Young Bucks no sell everything lol)

Watching the April 6th AEW show, just a general comment, the Hardys vs the other two guys was hard to watch. Why are they still doing all of that stupid ladder and chair shit? I’ve never been a fan of theirs or that style of match, but I don’t want to see these two old farts with a lot of hard yards on their bodies end up in wheelchairs either. Top it all off with Sting chasing everyone around with a bat… yikes.
Time to leave the Hardy’s on the nostalgia shelf where they belong before the end up killing themselves! 😬
Edit: FTR vs Bucks was amazing, I think I may have liked it a bit more than even FTR Briscoes! That was a style of match I didn’t think the Bucks had in them, why can’t they have this style of match all of the time? If the whole show was full of these type of matches, this would be weekly must see shit! Unreal this was on the same card as the Hardy’s broken hip on a pole match. Great stuff, makes me excited about pro wrestling again! 😁
