The announcements just keep rolling in from SWA, and this week on Joshi they announced that the SWA Joshi Japan Tour is back, baby! That's right, throughout March, as the men participate in the World Open, the women of SWA Joshi will be wrestling all over Japan, with the tour culminating in a show at the world-famous Yurakuen Hall on 3/15! No cards announced yet, but we can expect a Joshi Championship defense at Yurakuen Hall, and we always get at least a couple fun surprises on this tour, so I'm looking forward to seeing who shows up. I like the announcement of the SWA Joshi Japan Tour!! Simultaneous tours!! ๐๐ The reactions are rolling in from other members of BHB: There's been no official response from SWA yet, but it looks like they've quietly removed El Hijo de Toxico from their roster page. I'm doing the same here.

So tickets just went on sale today for the 3/15 Yurakuen Hall show and I guess it's a bigger deal than I thought? Someone got me a translation from a local ad in the area:
So yeah I don't really know what to make of that? What's all this about? What International Joshi Summit? A mystery card announced at the venue? ZIP Japan participation? This is wild.

International Joshi Summit sounds great and I'm enjoying the ambiguity. It's either going to be an awesome show with top talent from around the world or a thought provoking business conference with pastry-filled continental breakfasts and complimentary tote bags filled with SWAG ๐ I'm looking forward to the 75-minute networking lunch with Jo Ryder as a keynote speaker ๐ Robin: "Eww, I'm definitely not ๐คฎ"

Y'know it's been a while since we checked in on our friends over at OG-JoshiFan.Net wonder what they're talking abou-
Poor SLoPPy_Secondz. They should really pay that guy for all the work he does trying to keep that place under control.

That is a โญโญโญโญโญ appearance right there ๐ Can't wait to see Bobby finally debut!! And wow, OGJoshiFan.net forums is exactly the nightmare I envisioned it being in 2023 ๐ฅ๐ป๐ฅ๐คฏ Sanders alt is wrong about one thing. Even though UBL rarely has shows, we still LOVE amassing a huge roster ๐ It's like watching a kid collect Pokรฉmon cards but never actually do battle with them. Oh also, this happened elsewhere in the forums.

Weirdly enough, NotRubyMoreno actually is in fact not Ruby Moreno. They like to play it up sometimes but they really do just seem to be an internet weirdo who likes to rile people up. Do you know who they are? Do you, in fact, got Da SCOOPZ? Are you secretly SLoPPy_Secondz?Glad you enjoy the appearance! I really feel like I'm on an edit roll lately and I've got even more to show off at the International Joshi Summit :D

I want to see him interact/team with Saji down the line ๐
I hope the International Joshi Summit has assorted complimentary pastries laid out on a tablecloth with different flavors of coffee. A summit like this calls for hazelnut and french vanilla โ

Y'know there's something I've been meaning to do a write-up on, and with everything going on with the International Joshi Summit show, this seems like the right time. Let's talk briefly about... SWA-Adjacent Wrestling SchoolsGPWA Wrestling SchoolFounded: 2002 Trainers: Notes: When NWPW folded, there were actually two child promotions that rose from the ashes. Sierra Wrestling All-Stars was one. The Greater Portland Wrestling Assocation was the other. Technically predating NWPW itself, GPWA had been absorbed by NWPW In 1993, but after NWPW's collapse, it was reestablished by "Sargeant" Robert Gunnar in 2001, with the attached wrestling school opening in 2002. Technically, SWA and GPWA are rival promotions, but they have a friendly relationship and have traded talent on a number of occasions over the years. This connection has only strengthened since Sarge Gunnar's retirement in 2017, with GPWA now being owned and operated by former NWPW star Adam Morley and former Renegades of the Ring star Blake Hudson, both of whom have also wrestled for SWA. Notable Alumni: Connor Cipris, Jake Adair, Chad Jackson, VOLT Tsukuda, Toni Severin Shining GirlsFounded: 2005 Trainers: Notes: Probably the most well-known of the wrestling schools SWA collaborates with, Shining Girls was founded by the legendary Tigress Misra herself after her retirement from the ring in 2005. Misra has a storied career, which is quite too much to get into in this little blurb, but the Indian Legend has well earned that title, and her co-trainer, Cameron Watts, was an early SWA Original and was also briefly a trainer for the ill-fated SWA Wrestling Academy. As is probably evident from the name, Shining Girls only accepts female students, and Misra is very protective of her girls. Notable Alumni: Tigress Amita, Tigress Faridah, Becky Bravo, Raven Briars, Valkyrie Jameson Taiyou DojoFounded: 2015 Trainers: Notes: Jun Taiyou was the first SWA Joshi Champion, and for a few years, whether through her own holding of the title or her psychological control over her protege Mieko Suzuyama, she ruled the SWA Joshi division with an iron fist. But Mieko would not be stuck under Jun's thumb forever, and when she broke free, Jun returned to Japan to train a new generation of young wrestlers with the explicit goal of breaking her rebellious student. Thus was Taiyou Dojo founded, to satisfy Jun Taiyou's desire for control and petty vanity. Taiyou Dojo has become well known over the years as a place to watch for the greatest in upcoming joshi talent, but also for Jun's harsh and unforgiving training methods. Multiple students have told horror stories of the physical and psychological abuse they suffered at the hands of the Emerald Empress, and she is particularly infamous for forcibly shaving the heads of students who displease her. It has been said that SWA co-owner James Fushichou recruits talent out of Taiyou Dojo at least partially to get the girls away from their abusive trainer, and it is no surprise that every student who has ever publicly spoken about their time in the Dojo expresses a deep hatred of Jun Taiyou. Notable Alumni: Cerise, Hanami Watanabe, Emi Yamazaki, Akiko Shimizu, Mizuki Yoshinaga Riot SquadFounded: 2017 Trainers: Notes: Riot Squad came about by coincidence. Sydney Riot wanted to return to the northern Sonora and Baja wrestling scene, where she had come up learning lucha libre in the late 90's. Flora Maria gained a taste for training after being asked by her niece, Gabriela Espinosa, to teach her how to wrestle, and wanted to contribute to the scene herself. After their respective retirements from SWA, the two decided to return to their old US-Mexican border stomping grounds. The two ex-rivals were shocked at the state of the scene, even knowing that it had produced the twisted mental states of Samael Tangaroa and Los Diablos. Together, they resolved to do their best to help clean up the scene, wanting to create a safe and stable place for young local talent to train and wrestle. Notable Alumni: Callie Cassidy, Matt De Leon, Ultimo Cielo, Regina Ibanez, Javier Valiente

I really love the Mentoring school post!! That was incredibly informative and fun to read. It's cool tracing the origins of a lot of talent back to specific trainers that have their own methodologies. I think you have done a fantastic job of telling multiple generations of stories with your recent "origin/history" posts ๐

It's cool tracing the origins of a lot of talent back to specific trainers that have their own methodologies. I think you have done a fantastic job of telling multiple generations of stories with your recent "origin/history" posts ๐ There's a huge amount of SWA storytelling over the last 15 years that I've never fully gone over publicly, either because I wasn't active when it happened and backfilled it later, or because I was focusing on other stories. I've always wanted to go back and write more about a lot of this stuff but was worried it would be boring. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
These days the edit creation and writing are my favorite parts of my work with SWA, and I find less emphasis on capping matches lets me get more enjoyment out of things. Doing stuff with the Angry Wrasslin Nerd character in particular lets me focus more on the writing and less on spending time grumbling at the game for not giving me the matches I want. In a way the role that Fire Pro plays in SWA has shifted, where I now use it more often as inspiration for my write-ups than as direct text.
There's some big-ticket matches coming up I definitely want to cap though - notably Saji vs. Armel in the A Block of the World Open, and the International Joshi Summit show.

There's some big-ticket matches coming up I definitely want to cap though - notably Saji vs. Armel in the A Block of the World Open, and the International Joshi Summit show. I'm really enjoying the stories you are telling about SWA's history, the promotions that influenced it, the trainers and wrestlers that helped build it, and the rivalries that have occurred outside of view.
And I know how you feel. There's still UBL history I'd like to write (and re-enact via video matches) from the era before Geese owned it. OG-Joshi is a straight forward promotion in that Geese created it and the e-fed community has seen everything. UBL is different since its canon predates my actual presentation of it by like 15 years. There are at least 3 eras that occurred before I had Geese buy it and run it from that point on.
Every few months I tend to shift gears in terms of my interest in writing, editing, and capping. The past few months I was big into editing but recently I've been into writing and capping. Both writing and editing take a huge energy and time commitment for me so it's rare I'm able to do both. I created like 5 edits in the Fall/Winter and that is more than I've done for a while. As a result, I'm a bit burned out on it. Luckily, I have a lot of interest in writing shows right now though and testing out the new edits (and others) in capped matches. So at least I'm keeping some ambition here but, like conversation of energy, it changes forms.
Saji vs. Armel is going to be awesome!! ๐

No lie I've made like a dozen new edits since January. I haven't had an editing hot streak like this in forever and I've been happy with and excited by every one of them. The moves I've downloaded have totally revitalized my edit crafting and that feeds back into the stories I want to tell. Now if only I could make more male edits for SWA instead of almost everything being Joshi or edits for the NWPW 1998 project.

The moves I've downloaded have totally revitalized my edit crafting and that feeds back into the stories I want to tell. Now if only I could make more male edits for SWA instead of almost everything being Joshi or edits for the NWPW 1998 project. That is an incredible pace you're working at!! I can't remember the last time I made that many edits in such a short period of time - maybe like back in 2005 or something. What makes it even more amazing to me is that you have introduced Workshop moves. Using those have significantly extended the time it takes me to make edits cause there are more moves to choose from (and potentially create) and more priority-based decisions to make about the edit. So the fact you are working at this pace says to me your creativity is on overdrive and you're having an edit making renaissance right now! I envy and applaud it! ๐๐
I have been good at making male edits (especially strong style ones) the past few months but I'm having major issues with motivation finishing up my EMERGE edits. Even when I was on an edit making high the past few months, I couldn't make any new headway with them. I think one reason is that I have less OG-J edits to sim the new ones against. When I make a UBL edit, rookie or higher card, there is plenty of competition already available for them. But as I rebuild my OG-J roster, and build from the ground up the EMERGE roster, it feels like I'm re-populating a ghost town. ๐ป I have about 3 EMERGE edits like half done and just need to push forward to complete them - even if it means using default moves for now just to get the edit ready for general simming and then sprucing them up later with Workshop moves.

Lina has some shit to say to her fans both in SWA and OG-Joshi. Check it out HERE. Relatedly, both Lina and Gabriela Espinosa have brand new completely overhauled versions of their edits now on the workshop. Please check them out!
