My work, for the first time in memory actually cancelled Friday day and night shifts for the storm. The storm had started at 3am last night so I still had to drive home in it at 7am, but pretty much everything around here closed down so there wasn't much traffic to worry about. Aside from having to drive home slow, it wasn't really a problem, especially since the the days are getting longer again and the sun was up.
It's been freezing rain and ice pellets all day today and I'm hearing work may have cancelled Saturday's day shift as well. I think they kinda clued in that when we're getting these storms, a lot of people are calling in anyway and a lot of the shops in the plant barely run, if at all. Certainly won't be any trucks on the road either so no product coming in or out. Also predictions of power outages for today and tomorrow are still in effect and every time the plant not only loses power, but even gets hit with a power bump it's pretty hard on machines when they're in mid cycle and anything in the cookers and presses is instantly scrapped. A single flicker of the lights that causes the machines to momentarily turn off and then on again causes thousands of dollars in losses every single time it does it.

Damn, caught coming home in yet another snow storm. Only one close call coming off the highway where none of the exits were plowed; so I had to switch into sport mode and give a little throttle. Started doing some fishtailing and most definitely did not want to ditch in an offramp pit. It's weird that I learned all my defensive driving techniques from video games. I'm not even joking when I say I literally went into automatic to pull myself out of a sliding fishtail on a ramp just from doing it for years in various driving games. Of course I made it all the way home, got into the driveway and spun on ice and backed right into my father's truck. No damage to the truck at all from what I saw, but I have a nice little hairline gash on my rear that's probably going to need to be treated at some point. Already have little rust spots forming where snow plows have chipped my paint throwing up rocks when they pass by. This winter has definitely given my vehicle a beating.
Two more shifts to vacation.

UGH! Very glad to hear that you made it home safe but that fishtailing and little fender bender suck.
Video games have definitely helped my driving skills in difficult situations as well.
Hopefully it will be vacation before you know it! ๐ฎ

Made it to vacation. I am officially retired until Spring. Our freezing temperatures have completely gone and for the next few weeks it's supposed to be warm with a lot of torrential rain. Snow is already evaporating and roads are clearing. Although now the fresh potholes from the plows are all appearing. Dropped into two new massive potholes on the way home from work tonight that did not illicit a pleasant response and was enough to rattle the entire car. This winter was brutal on my vehicle. Janked around from potholes and plowing through drifts, got my paint scratched up on the hood and roof removing a two inch layer of ice after the big ice storm and a brand new fresh dent in the rear from where I backed into a truck. Was at least hoping to have it paid off before I started doing any damage to it. Only five or six months left on that if my record keeping is correct. At least for the foreseeable future it is going to be warm, even if it is supposed to be raining. But it will give me a chance to use my David Dunn Unbreakable poncho. Yes, there is a site that manufactures movie replicas of it: www.magnoliclothiers.com/dunn-poncho-other-garments-p-950.html New workout season starting tomorrow morning. I plan on doing 12 miles every single day of my vacation, an hour on the spin cycle every day of vacation and back on the weights three to four times a week. Tomorrow when I go to fill up the tank at the gas station I will be stocking up on the skim milk, whey, cliff bars and Vector cereal. That's pretty much what I live on when I'm dropping the winter weight. Cleared out the last of the junk food in the house. The only thing I still let myself have during workout season is Coke Zero and cigars and that's mainly because my father offloaded a bunch of cigars people gave him for Christmas when my brother had his kid. Since as a guy in his 70's with a lifelong heart condition who has spent most of his adult life almost 100lbs overweight he decided he'd kinda like to live long enough to see his grand daughter in person if the covid restrictions to PEI lighten up. So now I have a pile of cigars to go through on vacation.

Same here, nth. The Ohio Valley just can't get a day of sunlight for more than 2 days in a row. Pothole dodgeball with the car is just always a blast. [/sarcasm]

Yes! Nth made it to his annual vacation! ๐๐
I look forward to this time each year as we get to hear more about what games he is playing ๐
Good luck with your workout routine as well! ๐ช
Sorry to hear about the potholes and that your car basically ran a freaking gauntlet just to get to the safe haven of your break. Hopefully, winter will be gone afterward.
I once had a pothole tear open my tire on the highway so badly that right afterward it I thought I was in an earthquake. I never experienced anything like that shaking before. It felt like I was being turned into a cartoon jackhammer in a Roadrunner/Coyote cartoon. Luckily I was able to bail out to the right and call for assistance. But that was scary. It was the worst pot hole experience I had but far from the only one.
Tonight it's supposed to drop 11 degrees in one hour. That's disgusting. It's also disgusting that we can't go more than 5 days with climbing temperature to the 50's (and even 60's today!) without it dropping to 15-20 each weekend for the past 3-4 weeks. It was in the 60's today and is 57 right now. This time tomorrow it's going to be 23. We're not even supposed to get the teasing highs until March/early April so it's just making things more confusing.

It has been unusually cold in the SF Bay this February, but to be clear that's cold for California. It's dipping into the low 30's and high 20's at night, with daytime highs in the 40's and 50's. So not enough to stop me from enjoying the new motorcycle I bought this week!

Looks like we're going back into winter weather now. Snow storm predicted for tomorrow afternoon and into the evening. Hopefully you didn't get too much snow. I got a little but no worse than in the past month. I hate that the cold has returned though. And this time, unlike the past few weeks, it's lasting for longer than 2-3 days. It has been unusually cold in the SF Bay this February, but to be clear that's cold for California. It's dipping into the low 30's and high 20's at night, with daytime highs in the 40's and 50's. Our snow is all gone although weโre still going back and forth between warm and cold days. At this rate I may be changing the winter tires in a couple weeks. Iโm on my last few days of vacation and successfully made it through the rest of the winter.

Heatwaves everywhere I think. It was bad here. I literally spent Monday and Tuesday in my bedroom sleeping during the day with my air-conditioner on and staying awake all night playing games. Finally decided to set up my PS5 and found the included HDMI cable was way too short, so I ordered a new ten foot one as well as a PS5 carrying case. I'll be up again all night tonight as well and sleep all day tomorrow as I'm back on night shift for Wednesday and Thursday night. I will say they seem to have got the chillers at the plant working because this has been the first summer where we so far haven't had machine breakdowns related to the heat. I'm still predicting we're only 7 weeks away from seeing the first leaves changing for the fall.
