That suplex that Rick hit on him probably knocked him senseless since he clearly didn't (couldn't?) get enough height to not land directly on his head.

We've all seen the Ribera Steakhouse Jackets. The iconic varsity-styled bombers that are considered a rite of passage to the Wrestling community. What makes the Ribera jackets so special is that these collector's items were never sold to the general public. They were only given as gifts to certain Wrestlers who visited the Steakhouse in Japan. Even more shocking is that some Wrestlers had to make repeat trips to Japan before they had a chance of receiving their own jackets (talk about a humbling blow to one's ego). Normally, the Ribera Jackets don't feature a Wrestler's name written on the backs of them. That is, of course, unless you're the Road Warriors or the
Mastodon himself:
 Big Van Vader's name is written in Katakana on the top of his Ribera jacket. Judging by the Turner production truck in the background, I would imagine this photo was taken during an early 90's WCW taping. |

Besides scanning guidebooks, I've also been posting a lot of advertisements for Wrestling games in general. Here's a Japanese ad for Super WrestleMania from 1992:  The bottom of the ad features a sweepstakes where readers in Japan could win official WWF merchandise. The prizes were: A: Hulk Hogan Handcut T-Shirt - 30 winners.
B: Hulkster Bandana - 50 winners.
C: WWF Denim Hat - 40 winners.
D: WWF Sports Bag - 30 winners.
E: WWF Trading Cards - 50 winners.
To enter, readers had to fill in the blanks to spell "Super WrestleMania" in Japanese (which is very simple, as the Japanese spelling is printed several times in the ad). |

This match was mentioned on the Briscoe and Bradshaw podcast by Coco Ware, it stood out to him as one of his favourites, getting to work with the NWA champ. I love going back to these matches and seeing how much they do with so little. I think Coco said Flair was supposed to have a match with Bill Dundee, then they switched it to Coco. It was cool to hear him reminiscing about the match, and how proud he is of it. Not a barn burner or anything crazy, but a solid match by a guy who most people remember as a gimmick guy with a parrot (and the singer and star of PILEDRIVER!!!)

Throwback to last year when I visited AnimeExpo with a friend here in Toronto. I dressed as The Undertaker - and only a handful of people got the reference. One of which, was this stall that had a print of everyone's favourite Giant:  I like the stained glass style to this print. Would you pick it up? |

So, has Dory Funk Jr ALWAYS looked like a senior citizen? Dory would have been around 33 at this time, and he doesn’t look a day over 65. He must have had a double helping of liver and onions to pull off this broadway versus Jack Briscoe! I love the theme music!!!

I’m not usually a huge fan of these fan opinion pieces, but this one is pretty interesting, and basically lays out the premise of the Queen of the Villains show.
I don’t know why I find this group and this era so friggin interesting, but they were just so good! I think it might be that you had actual white hot baby faces and universally hated heels that knew how to generate nuclear heat. It all feels so ambiguous with current wrestling, I wonder if that’s what makes this old stuff so much more appealing to me now? The more I look at the history of pro wrestling, the more I realize that I’m not broken or that I’ve outgrown it, but that it has changed into something that I no longer like or understand. Thank the makers for old footage! 😁
