This is gold! š I was in Charlotte, NC once, I remember seeing the Billy Graham Parkway, I wonder if anyone slapped a āSuperstarā sticker over the name on any of the signs recently? š

Toss this in there for the hell of itā¦ The Toukon Sanjushi (or 'Three Musketeers') during a Puerto Rico excursion. About four years into their careers, all three men were still finding their way as Pro-Wrestlers. Mutoh tried his hand at being the Super Black Ninja, (precursor to The Great Muta gimmick), Space Lone Wolf, and other monikers. Chono was still an up-and-coming babyface, and Hashimoto had yet to earn the nickname 'The King of Destruction'.
Mutoh adopted The Great Muta character overseas, to which Japanese audiences were excited to see once Mutoh returned back home to native soil. Chono would be a fixture at G1 Climax tournaments, and would gain a major surge in popularity when he was rebranded as a heel with his 'Black Charisma' gimmick; paving the way for NWO Japan in the months to follow.
Hashimoto was often billed as the toughest of the trio. What Hashimoto lacked in athleticism or appearance, he more than made up for in sheer
explosive power. Stiff kicks, deadly Brainbuster's and lethal chops all made Hashimoto a force to be reckoned with. A reputation that was sadly diminished during Hashimoto's shoot fights against Naoya Ogawa.

For a bit of nostalgia, we have put together a most memorable (not best) matches of the 80s video, with a cheesy 80s wrestling game awards. Featuring Critical Club members Shadow Master and Patman (and myself)

Again, down the rabbit hole I went, and came across this old match between The Road Warriors and the team of Austin Idol and Jerry Lawler. The video quality is the shits, but itās watchable. From what I could gather, it looked like the first time animal and hawk had been in Memphis, and they filled the house to see the local boys take on the giants from āChicagoā.
One of the things that stood out to me besides how absolutely SWOLE the Warriors were in 1984 was the match and its pacing. Lawler and Idol spend the first ten minutes tossing ineffectual offence at animal and hawk, bouncing off of their huge frames, while the warriors no sell everything. The story is being told, and no one had to do and dives or half gainers off of any turnbuckles through any tables. The crowd was into it, they built the match, the home team was taking a beating, then managed to start their comeback. Itās amazing how little they had to do but managed to pull off a match that kept the crowd hooked. Itās not even a super memorable match in terms of content, and I know the times have changed, but this was a fun example of how less was more, and no one needs to be perpetually, intentionally concussed to put on a good show!

I was watching the Dec 5th episode of AEW dynamite and saw the Swerve Strickland / Mark Briscoe match, I couldnāt believe my eyes when I saw Briscoe bust out the classic RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP!!! Those guys had a pretty good match, too! OT: I canāt believe Iām saying this, but I think Iām over the chop / chop battles. I feel like everyone does them in every match now, and like a lot of other really overdone shit, Iām not interested in seeing it constantly. Unless itās these guys š

I was just thinking about this match today. Kobashi and Sasaki trading off an endless succession of chops back and forth. The match was quite literally Kobashi's last stand, as the Maximum Innovator collapsed during the trade-off. Some say the fall was part of the match's plan, others say Kobashi's knee's buckling was an actual reaction to years of punishment in the ring.
Kobashi truly gave it his all.

So this is pretty bad ass, canāt believe this shit went down in the coldest, most isolated shithole on the planet, my own back yard! I canāt imagine how crazy it must have been to pay a couple of bucks to have a vending of this shit go down right in front of you! š

I have previously lamented that I was about a decade too young to catch the end of the Kansas City Wrestling territory (Central States Wrestling, among other names) but all of the old timers swear that it was a great experience and there were some legit legends that came out of there, and many, many more that came through there. Would have been cool to go to the weeklies but alas, Cable happened and the territories died.
I'm pretty sure WWE owns the tape library but I've never bothered to see if they have any streaming anywhere. I may have to look into that some time.

I think any of the old territories would have been amazing to see some shows in! Central States Wrestling, beyond the obvious legends like Race, OāConnor, and Longson, there have been crazy names with title runs in the area, including, of all people, Mr Pogo!
I canāt imagine having those events as an (economically viable!) option to be able to roll up to and do anytime! Cool times!
