Suuuuuuper late to the party but I've been playing a lot of The Outer Worlds from 2019(?). I picked it up back in the day but never got around to playing it until recently, managed to Platinum trophy it. Still playing The Witcher 3 as well lol
Have there been any really good single player open world games released in the last couple of years? I can't think of any (I'm not a fan of the Far Cry or Assassin's Creed series).

Really getting into Barotrauma on Steam. Co-Op survival submarine game set on Europa. You can play single player, but playing with other people you know, much like Project Zomboid, will make this an instant classic.

Since I'm tabbing out the hidden "Special Tech" moves from the official guidebook of Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special, I'm going back and playing Special just to double check everything.
Other than that, just creating character graphics in Journey Of Wrestling's workshop. The limited graphics are posing a fun challenge.

Yeah I had a lot of fun with the Outer Worlds.
I'm the type of player that likes replaying RPGs using different character builds, and Outer Worlds has a skill/perk system that allows for some pretty cool variety. It also encourages replays by giving you 6 companions who are all interesting and funny and have tons of quest specific dialog...but you can only ever bring 2 of them with you at a time. The story was good enough (and short enough, about 25-30 hours, depending on how much side stuff you do) that I didn't mind playing through it multiple times to try out a bunch of different builds and companion combinations. There's also multiple possible story endings.
There's some pretty cool weapons (guns and melee), there's a couple of solid DLCs, and the whole thing has a charmingly goofy sense of humor. Definitely worth it if you like the idea of Fallout in space.

Thanks for taking the time to give your impressions, it sounds great! I think I’ll pull the trigger when it goes on sale next!
I played through the original Mass Effect a few times, I wish I had the luxury to try that with this game. One of the “drawbacks” that I looked at as a positive was the game length you mentioned, that sounds perfect to me! Once your free time begins to get crunched in life, and you take the time to think about the number of titles you have in your backlog and how LONG each title’s main story could be, you realize how futile your efforts could potentially be. So yeah, 25-30 sounds good for a well written solo romp to me!
Thanks again!
Not a blockbuster or anything, but something I was pleasantly surprised by if you don’t mind something a bit older by now and haven’t already tried, Wolfenstein: Old Blood was a lot of fun for me! It’s quick, violent, pretty, and dripping with dark humour (sneaking around listening to the nazi guards’ conversations is hilarious, some of them are ridiculous! Let them talk, don’t finish them off until they’re done!). Just an idea till you find your next big, triple A solo outing!

Man, I remember playing the old Wolfenstein 3D back in 92/93, but I don't think I've ever played anything else in the series. I'll give it a look.

Oh yeah, and it goes on sale constantly, you can usually grab it for less that $10, even up here in the frozen north!!! 😁

Just doing a little random playing of Not a Hero after a year or so. I completely forgot what an amazing soundtrack the game has and I had to go on youtube and spend a half an hour ripping the entire OST. Game still holds up as well with the ultra-violence and Devolver Digital's signature dark humor and eccentric characters.

King of Fighters XV is upon us! I knew it was coming out this month but forgot until an hour ago that it's coming out this week. Then I realized I actually had an early pass to play it on PS4. Downloading it now with 3 hours left to go until it's complete. It allowed me to play it after a partial download but only in practice mode with the lead character who I don't have much interest in. Maybe I'll warm up to him but he has these "giant hand" special moves like foam hands at a sporting event AND he's wearing a headset like he's listening to music while fighting. I mean, there's "style" and then there's "over the top pandering to youth fashion trends" but whatevs 🤷♂️ That all said, the game plays really smoothly so I'm happy about that. I'm hoping I'll get a game or two in with the Orochi team before I have to go to bed. Also realized I missed the news that one of the upcoming DLC packs for May has both Geese and Yamazaki in it! I'm happy that I'll have just about all my favorites from 2002: UM in this game. I just hope their movesets aren't changed too much. SNK gets a little weird with the need to change Geese's inputs like every time they put him in the game. I guess he doesn't like his moves being PREDICTABO even to his fans 😄

So I was looking for a big open world RPG and stumbled into Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Oh man. I'm like 100 hours into it and I've barely cracked the main story lol
So much fun.

PS5 version of Horizon on the way, PS5 version of Elden Ring pre-ordered. Still looking for a PS5. Been playing Tails of Iron which has been quite enjoyable so far. Very much like a 2d Dark Souls game. Always doing the weekly assignments in Deep Rock Galactic as well.
Just found out a new free DLC is coming to Battle Brothers March 10 adding a lot of new stuff to the game, Shadow Warrior 3 March 1 and Triangle Strategy on Switch March 5.

I haven’t tried Valhalla yet, but I know lots of people that really enjoyed it and it has been recommended to me many times. I considered suggesting it to you a while back, but I seem to recall someone indicating that the AC series wasn’t on the radar. 😉 glad you’re enjoying it, Valhalla looks great, I’m jealous of the abundance of time you have to dive into that beast of a game!

Valhalla is an absolute monster of a game. The base game is massive, and there are multiple free and paid DLCs that add tons more content to play. I haven't played any AC games since the very first one as I'm not really into stealth gameplay, but Valhalla is very action oriented, and you can just tank the whole game with the right build anyways :P
It's definitely fun sneaking around and picking off enemies one by one, but much more fun IMO to just run screaming into an enemy fort with a couple of huge axes and start destroying everyone lol. Plus I'm an absolute sucker for anything with Vikings, I love that culture.

To Nth and all fans of Final Fantasy VI. The Steam Pixel remaster version is getting all types of mixed reviews. There seem to be some glitches and other irregularities. I personally wish they included the new content from the GBA game. But I'm here to say that if you love the FFVI music, you should get the game. I loaded the Steam version up for the first time last night. They have an in-game music player that I proceeded to listen to for like 2 hours. I had no idea that Square re-mastered/re-arranged every song in the original soundtrack. It is phenomenal. I love the original soundtrack and marvel at what Nobuo was able to do with the SNES technology. But when you listen to the re-arranged versions, you get the sense of what he wanted to do all along. So many of the songs I liked have taken on new life and many of the songs I loved got even better. That being said - I would have liked the original soundtrack to also have been included for posterity sake and so people could choose to have the original experience. The bonus "timelapse versions" that came with the pre-order are different and awesome in their own way. There are only 5 of them though and I would have liked even more. But I really can't complain. I've listened to these songs (and hundreds of remixes) for over 25 years and to hear them done to this level by Square in the game is amazing. I can't wait to actually play the game hearing them.
