So I've been picking away at a ton of little indie games on the PS4. Darkest Dungeon still completely owns me. I've talked about how I love this game quite a bit in the past, but it still holds up. I can have a campaign completely wiped out after a dozen hours of play and start over fresh and still be just as into it. I think I’ve given up on DD. I got pretty far, got mostly level 3,4 & 5 characters but I can’t stomach losing any of them and I can’t seem to finish the higher level dungeons. It’s a crippling fear and I don’t think I can go any further. I haven’t really tried specific teams and builds though. Seems like I’m always missing one job class or something.

Started Yakuza: Like a Dragon. It’s pretty good but I’m not quite getting all the hype. It’s incredibly linear. Move here, long scene, move there, long scene, battle, repeat. I've been getting this vibe from the series as well when I was playing Yakuza 0. While I believe the writing for the story and the sidequests are fairly entertaining, the limit of freedom is pretty jarring considering how many sandbox games I've been playing leading up to it.

GTA IV Complete Edition on PC. My favorite GTA. Loved it back in the days. Steam version is only playable with mods. It's running fluid on my shitty.

I grabbed GTA 5 two nights ago on PS4 during the PSN holiday deal.
I'm having a better time with it now than I originally did. I think my expectations are different now. Back when I first played it, I was still fresh off playing RDR 1 and Sleeping Dogs. GTA 5 felt like a step back in a few ways. But now I'm going into the game just wanting to enjoy the world. It's fun to drive around and see the different environments they created, especially in the North. The melee fighting/interaction still leaves a lot to be desired though. No grapple mechanic, no lasso, nothing but punching, weapons, and the jump/headbutt move. But the different vehicles are fun to drive around with and explore all of the regions of the game.

One Strike finally hits PS4 this week. Quirky cheap little fighting game where every hit is a killing blow and battle revolve around dodging, parrying and blocking until someone gets a killing strike.
I also saw Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim was in the Holiday sale and picked that up. Initially I had no interest in it but recently read how despite critical acclaim the game has been received poorly. Well Vanillaware has given me some great entertainment in the past so I checked out some reviews and that game is getting nothing but glowing feedback, so I will give it a try. Part visual novel and part tactics strategy and at half price I have no reason not to check it out now.

I've decided to catch up on the Yakuza series after enjoying 0 so much a couple of years ago. I skipped Yakuza Kiwami because I remember the story fairly well and began playing Kiwami 2 about 3 weeks ago. It's been a fun ride. I'm getting close to the end of the story and have almost finished the substories so I'll probably move onto Y3 some time in the next week or two. Probably going to give it a break after that one but who knows. It's not like I'm getting anything new in the near future lol.

So here's something amusing that happened during today's battle royale. The gentleman on the ramp was the first of the final entrants to be eliminated. After the next elimination (whose hands are barely visible at left), he was close enough to go after him but the AI tried to cross the ramp, which is technically treated as part of the ring, and got confused.

VPW2 Freem again (what else?).
I saw one of the best ring-out eliminations I've seen in a while. Curt Hennig had knocked Ric Flair onto the apron and was squaring up to dropkick him when Saturn gave Hennig a kick in the behind that made him stumble forward and fall outside. I laughed.

Just picked up the Darkside Detective series on PSN. Heavily inspired by Twin Peaks. These games have been out for a while on other platforms but only came to PSN recently.
Also the remastered Saga Frontier

I love that Dave and Sandy from Maniac Mansion are now running the diner. Lots of little nods and cameos from Maniac Mansion in the game.

I know I’ve mentioned this one before, but you all need to be playing Spelunky. It’s available on PS4 (ps5?) now, has been backward compatible on XBONE for ages, is on its way to the switch (perfect platform for it), and has been on steam for a million years. It’s a lot of fun, pretty sure there’s couch co-op as well as online play, so there’s really no good reason for anyone to not play Spelunky. I’m hoping the switch version won’t be $30, but it would be worth it for the portability! PSA finished. m.youtube.com/watch?v=n50JIBBwcbM

I really enjoyed playing this game for the first few hours of it. I didn't catch the Dave/Sandy in joke though from the diner! Once the game got to the factory I kind of lost interest. I'm not sure if it was the game, the fact I read spoilers that kind of deterred me from continuing, or just getting busy and wanting to focus on other things. But the humor for the time I played was top notch and I did really enjoy it. The hotel was my favorite part.
