Played it for about 4 hours yesterday. Coming from The Last of US II, the opening is a very rough start due to how Sucker Punch does their pacing and cutscenes. But once the game "opens up" and you can go where you want... it's glorious. The tech / skill / stance tree is going to fun to unlock, and the world is very rewarding to explore. Lovin' it so far. I was hoping to see some feedback, this game should be right up my alley, the reviews have been very positive, and I really like sucker punch, but somehow I just haven’t given two shits about it. I’m very stoked for last of us, the first one still haunts me constantly, I keep wanting to play it again, but I’ve got to hit that backlog! Please post more impressions of ghost of tsushima when you have time! 🙂 Sucker Punch is good at some stuff, bad at others. But it seems like they had some hidden talents in there, too. The bad stuff is still bad, but it quickly faded away after the first 2 hours or so and the game has turned into a contender for GOTY for me. Last of Us 2 is my winner so far but Cyberpunk 2077 is coming as well as probably some unknown PS5 launch stuff. But yeah Ghost of Tsushima is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than I thought it would be. So far it's the best samurai game I've ever played. I know that's a small list but hey... RDR was the best western game I ever played and that was also a small list. The combat is so rewarding if you're good, so punishing if you suck. The exploration is fulfilling. The limited HUD is a beautiful touch. The way missions are broken down into 'tales' and sometimes you even get ink splatter backstories of fables and legends. The skill and tech trees with new stances, new moves, new gear unlocks / upgrades and all that stuff... really makes you want to just keep playing forever. I was kind of ready to say 'meh' on this game but I went ahead with my preorder and MY GOD what a good decision. This is definitely going to be some people's favorite game of all time. It's that much fun.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to reply! Between your response and Nth’s videos, I think I’m sold. I have this dumb policy I started for myself ages ago about self imposed media blockades for games I might be interested in to avoid spoiling them completely (I’ve done it in the past 🙁). I guess I did it so well with this one it got away from me all together. I really enjoyed Infamous: Second Son, I thought it took a lot of undeserved flack from reviewers, the game is a ton of fun and totally gorgeous (a bit repetitive at times, but a lot of games are still guilty of that) , so I know sucker punch is very capable on the platform, and I LOVED the minimal HUD aspect of the Shadow of the Colossus remake, so the fact you noticed and mentioned that aspect is a positive for me. I think in ways this game was a bit of what I was hoping Sekiro might be like (and Tenchu!!!), so maybe this will scratch the feudal Japan itch I have, and this won’t just be a the FOMO purchase I was wortied it might end up being! Thanks again! 🙂

Still playing The Messenger when I get time. It's still really good. I think I'm about halfway through (I'm about to "complete" my quest, about six or seven levels in, but lots of other stuff is still obviously yet to happen), and, while it's getting harder, it's been a solid curve and seems to be fair about it thus far.
A LOT of modern platformers, especially in the 2d pixel-art vein, seem to relish in just throwing you into ridiculously unforgiving difficulty almost straight away. Like I liked Celeste at first, but by the third level I found myself just randomly throwing my character through the obstacles until I made it through by luck because the difficulty curve was so absolutely insane.
Knock on wood, Messenger hasn't gotten into that territory yet - the platforming definitely tests you and how well you use your abilities, and the bosses demand that you pay attention and learn their patterns, but it's stayed pretty fair so far.
I'm just now getting to the point where I HAVE to do shit like hitting enemies/enemy projectiles in the middle of the air (to give myself extra air jumps) to get through parts. The game is built smartly enough that I realized I COULD do this a long time ago, so it doesn't feel like utter bullshit that I suddenly have to. It feels like I've progressed a bit more naturally to that point, so it feels like a natural escalation on the game's part.
And man, some of the platforming sequences you pull off as you do get good feel absolutely awesome. It's not that unusual to jump up, hit an enemy fireball, use your just-gained second jump to leap towards a wall that you grappling-hook yourself towards, bounce off that wall a la Ninja Gaiden, glide over an air gust that lifts you high enough to hit a background lantern, giving you another mid-air jump that you use to reach solid ground and finally take a breath, and it feels amazing.
And you CAN do it because by the time you have to do that, you've been developing each of those skills for a little while. It's definitely a natural progression, and it's not till you land on the ground again after a sequence like that that you kind of go "holy shit, I just did that. I'm awesome!"
Definitely digging it.

I was debating getting Ghost Of Tsushima , but I know I'll never finish it. I don't know if its my age, but I cant enjoy rpgs or long games anymore. Anyone else go through that? Anyway, finished River City Girls with my daughter and looking forward to playing the Capcom beat em up collection on Switch next.

Anyway, finished River City Girls with my daughter and looking forward to playing the Capcom beat em up collection on Switch next. It's taken me almost two years to get halfway through Red Dead Redemption 2, so I totally relate. It's not so much a question of enjoyment for me as it is finding a large chunk of time that I can truly relax playing it. I can't play a long game like that without at least a two-hour play session in front of me. Otherwise it just feels like I'm taking small, unsatisfying bites. I doubt I'll finish Ghosts but I'm going to buy it. However, I'm holding off on doing so until I finish RDR 2. At the least, maybe I'll get rewarded by a price drop. At the best, well, I won't have one more game haunting me (get it...cause of 👻...never mind 😁 ) while I continue to fail to finish Red Dead: the game I've most looked forward to for 10 years 🤦♂️ Aka the time management edition of getting old sucks 😑

@orichigeese I'll up the ante and say that I was waiting for Shenmue 3 for something like 18 or 19 years. Then finally when I got it, it took me 6 months to finish. And I had to push myself to play it at times too. I remember back in the day, I used to buy many new rpgs that came out. Now I just don't have that kind of patience anymore to play them. Definitely an age thing for me. RDR 2 was another one I considered but it would probably be collecting dust somewhere on my shelf. Funny thing is, in the 90s , I used to dislike Nintendo and thought I was too "cool" for them . I was all PlayStation. Now I play mainly Nintendo and arcade style games. I just want that pick up and enjoy kind of game. If you know what I mean. I went back to my 80s Nintendo roots. Lol

I've had conversations like that. It usually goes something like:
"Are there any new games you're looking forward to?" "Not really but there are still plenty of old games to discover anyway. You know I hear there's a Mega Man 6 now?"

Just bought Blazing Chrome and its like playing Contra in 1987, except its getting released in 2020. Speaking of Mega man. Mega Man 11 was inspired by the older games, but with a new look and just as awesome.

I'm enjoying the latest update to VPW2 Freem Edition. I've said this before but it reminds me why I love the AKI games.
It even makes me want to learn how to do my own hack some day. Maybe after I finish moving and things stabilize again...
Anyway, I just simmed a battle royale that had some fun spots.
I like that the Dome Road counts the ramp as part of the ring because I saw AJ Styles throw someone onto it and do a slingshot body press. Later, Great Muta pulled a chair from the side and took it into the ring.
Jumbo Tsuruta made his entrance and immediately submitted to Sakuraba because Quick Match is funny like that.
Alex Karelin did his famous neck drop to Andre the Giant. I marked for that.
I miss knowing how many people are left to enter, though. That was a little thing No Mercy added that just seems strangely missing from the earlier games.
But yeah, fun stuff.

Just picked up the last DLC for Battle Brothers and literally discovered a new Tactics styled game that just came out for PC, Switch and PS4 called Banner of the Maid; an alternate world history of the French Revolution. I literally logged into PSN and bought it before I even finished the trailer.

Playing and enjoying Tony Hawk 1+2 but man, I do NOT have the skill at it that I did 15-20 years ago. I guess it did take more than a week to build up but still, I hate not being good anymore lol

I guess it did take more than a week to build up but still, I hate not being good anymore lol Just talking to my neighbour about this, we’ve both been waffling back and forth as to whether or not to pick THPS up or not. We both played the shit out of these games way back, and we were speculating whether we’d still have the skills or not, I guess you’ve cleared that question up! Keep posting, I’m really interested to see what you think!
