Just picked up Project Warlock. A great little DOOM clone with some gameplay twists.

Dabbled a little bit with Star Trek: Bridge Crew on PS4, I like how the PS 4 controller is used, they did a good job converting it from VR. I need to play more to really get into it but I've been so busy with important stuff, and any gaming time has been devoted Star Wars Battlefront II and Fire Pro. I finally unlocked the Maul skin thanks to Papa Palpatine and grinding Co-Op.

What do you get when you cross Helldivers with Minecraft? You get Deep Rock Galactic.
Saw one of my friends playing it on Steam and just for the heck of it picked it up to see what it was all about. I love this game. Join a crew of Space Dwarves from your space station hub and embark on procedurally generated missions to harvest resources and special items from deep space moons and planets for the corporation you work for.
4 player classes to pick from, each with unique methods of combat and traversal to navigate through some of these environments full of hazards. In these procedurally generated biomes, all of which are 100% destructible, part of the gameplay is figuring out ways to get to hard to reach areas to mine some resources or to explore the location for gold veins other other items that you can use toward upgrading your character weapons, tools and armor. You also have character progression and are encouraged to use each class and skill them up. Some nice player cosmetics to really customize your dwarf as well to be purchased.
Love the art aesthetic of the game and it has a nice soundtrack that picks up pace when swarms and nests of alien life decide they don't want you in their territory and come after you.
Your crew is followed by a M.U.L.E. (Multi Use Labor Entity) a nod to the oldschool classic game I'm sure, which as you harvest resources your team can dump them into so it can carry them for you. Once you complete your contract the Mule can be used to summon an evacuation drop pod. It will automatically make its way back to the pod, which you can follow, although the M.U.L.E. can climb walls without problem leaving you behind. The drop pod gives you only five minutes to make it back to it before the corporation takes its payload back to the space station with or without the Dwarf miners on board which has led to some pretty tense moments in the game as you can get lost in the expansive biomes and sometimes on the fly have to figure out new ways to get back to your original location in the level all the while being attacked by aliens.
It's great that they made a co-op multiplayer game that is just fun to play, even when you're not in combat. The exploration and traversal of the levels and working as a team to get to new locations is just as fun as the combat.

I haven't seen this game since early days of it's early access(pretty sure this was the game) glad it's made itself more of a unique thing it was still very basic when I first saw it but thought it had promise if they kept working on their ideas.

Still enjoying the hell out of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. I'm now getting close to the endgame of the 2nd title in the series and it's been a really fun ride. I love the way they do character arcs in it. I like the franchise so much that not only am I resolved to play the next 2 games (the 4th one should be coming stateside within the next year) but I'm compelled to go back to the over-franchise's roots and play Trails in the Sky, a game that's compatible with my non-gaming PC by virtue of being 16 years old xD. While the Cold Steel games are largely independent of the Sky and Crossbell games, there is still a direct connection between the two and certain characters appear in and out of each arc (or so I've heard). I don't know if I'll ever have the time to go through all of it but it's an interesting story with a neat setting and great characters that make me want to keep playing. Perhaps by the time I've had my fill of what's available, they'll have English localization for the Crossbell games (there are 9 games in the entire Trails sub-series and those two are the only ones that aren't localized which is especially disappointing since it's the middle of three story arcs).

I started playing The Messenger last night. It's a retro Ninja Gaiden-style throwback that's been out on Switch for a while and just recently came out on Xbox Game Pass. I'm not normally super into faux-retro games, but in this case it just looks and feels right. And it wears its NES-era Ninja Gaiden influences so overtly it really couldn't look or play any other way.
It's an action-platformer that feels almost exactly like its "predecessor" except for handling a bit more smoothly. Its main new innovation is a mechanic where you gain another jump anytime you slash something with your sword in midair, allowing (and I'm sure, as it gets harder, necessitating) you to pull off some crazy platforming tricks as you slash enemies, background objects, and even projectiles to chain jumps together.
It might eventually get hard enough that I just get mad at it, but I'm liking it quite a bit so far.

I've heard really good things about the Messenger and have gone back and forth with buying it. I've been waiting for a deal just cause I know I won't give it enough time these days to justify the cost with all the other games I'm playing. As it is, I finally took the plunge with Mega Man 11, played it once last week, and haven't since. And that's a great game too, really true to the formula. Fire Pro just mows over everything with me these days. That slash->jump mechanic is cool and sounds really fun to play. But I worry that they are going to base the later difficulty levels around needing to master that mechanic and it's going to become rage inducing 😡

Wow an image of 500 games just flashed in my mind that represents what I've played since the last time I posted in a thread like this. Currently platting Last of Us 2, got my hands on The Wonderful 101 remaster (even though I beat it on WiiU) and the Gunvolt combo pack. Messenger rules but that new Lodoss War game on early access rules way harder.

What? A new Record of Lodoss War game? Wow 😲 Apparently there's a Netflix series that is done by the creator of Record of Lodoss War too. It's called Record of Grancrest War. I haven't watched it yet but .... "ITS ON MAH LIST" *Spits*

Yup, it's a really rad little Castlevania clone on Steam with excellent skills/powers. I just wish it was DONE and not early access. As for Loddos... I'm just all about that classic Lodoss. Got that shit on laserdisc lol.
I've also been playing a lot of sim type games to wind down. Surviving Mars is one of the best ever... and got back into Cities Skylines with all the rad DLC. Two Point Hospital immediately brought me back to the PS1 days of playing Theme Hospital and hearing about INFLATOR ROOOOOMs over and over. Oh and Factorio fucking blows but my god I love it.

Yup, it's a really rad little Castlevania clone on Steam with excellent skills/powers. I just wish it was DONE and not early access. Yeah I just checked the page and it seems they aren't quite far along enough. But I get it, it's a passion project. And it seems like they put a lot of time and effort into making what they have to their highest standard. Is it more classic Castlevania or Metroidvania? As much as I respect the latter and understand its merits, I've never really enjoyed that style. I prefer the traditional side-scrolling formula even though I realize the exploration makes a lot of sense for the stories they are telling and the depth they want. I just never got into them. As for Loddos... I'm just all about that classic Lodoss. Got that shit on laserdisc lol. Wow, laser disc!? 💽 You still have a functional player? I've also been playing a lot of sim type games to wind down. Surviving Mars is one of the best ever... and got back into Cities Skylines with all the rad DLC. Two Point Hospital immediately brought me back to the PS1 days of playing Theme Hospital and hearing about INFLATOR ROOOOOMs over and over. Oh and Factorio fucking blows but my god I love it. I've used Fire Promoter to wind down in the past few months 😁

lol yeah I got an LD player with about 500 discs... mostly imported classic anime from the 80s and 90s. And it's def a Metroidvania but with the way you use unlocked spells and spirits to travel around and do crazy crap, it makes sense. Plus there are vendors you can backtrack to.

lol yeah I got an LD player with about 500 discs... mostly imported classic anime from the 80s and 90s. Damn that's really sweet. You probably have a ton of full season series discs. Giant robots fighting and loving over the fate of the world is only a click away at any time 🤖 And it's def a Metroidvania but with the way you use unlocked spells and spirits to travel around and do crazy crap, it makes sense. Plus there are vendors you can backtrack to. Yeah, it definitely makes sense for the game. I just kind of grew a little tired of the formula. It may be an issue with 2D exploration. As much as I love River City Ransom, when I play it these days I just get antsy about backtracking through the map. And yet, I never have any issues with 3D free roam games. Maybe cause I have easier map access and can see how it all fits together. Plus I can often choose my route easy.

To be fair... the map is very friendly. There are multiple warp points and save points, and you can pull up the map at any time to see where you're at. It's grid based due to verticality, so you can pop the map up and count and say, 3 rooms left, 1 room down to the warp room, then i'll go 2 rooms left to get back to the chamber room. And you can fly/float which helps to zoom past the areas you've already explored.
