I was playing a ladder match in No Mercy against a friend earlier. At one point he decided he wanted to put me through a table, only I fought back and put him through it first. Then this exchange happened:
"Ah, you stole my idea!" "Yeah, I knew what you were thinking so I had to turn the tables on you."
It took me a moment to realise I made a pun.

Various factors have me considering looking into how to hack/mod WWF No Mercy, even though I probably don't need to go diving into that particular rabbit hole right now.

Up to chapter 15 in Langrisser I. Love the strategic gameplay but the story is pretty meh. To be expected since it was originally written thirty years ago I guess. Doom Eternal has arrived although I received none of the pre-order bonuses, I suspect Amazon just forgot about them due to the circumstances so I just bought Doom 64 separately. Random digital purchases on PSN also include the PS4 edition of Deep Sky Derelicts, the strategy game Wartile and Katana Kami, the Way of the Samurai spinoff title that came out a couple months ago.

So Katana Kami turned out to be way more in depth than I anticipated. I was expecting a Diablo-like dungeon looter, but it has an insane amount of meta gameplay in it I had no idea about. Never played any Way of the Samurai games, but this is set in that universe and apparently has a lot of callbacks to the main series.

This game the combination of QWOP and the robot baby you had to take care of in high school Whoa, your school had robot babies? We just had a watermelon and a filthy rag to hold it in. And subsequent regret 😁 I guess this is a better time than ever to play the copy of Death Stranding I got for free back in December. Cool, maybe you can report back with wtf Murphy MacManus is walking around a dreary ass environment with a fetus in a jar for! Enjoy! 🙂 He lost a particularly embarrassing bet 😄

I figured I am staring at a lot of free time for the next... however long so I figured I may as well give Final Fantasy XV a shot. I generally haven't been able to deal with non-portable jrpgs for a long time now (my patience for turn-based random battles no longer exists) but I got this as a gift some time back and god it is not at all what one would expect a Final Fantasy game to be if the last one you paid any attention to was X. It is basically an open world action rpg road trip game and... I kinda dig it? I think I can appreciate anything as nuts as this is.
Also I continue to eternally pick away slowly at Baba is You. I'm probably 2/3 of the way through the 9th area and the puzzles just remain so clever if occasionally baffling.

My wife got us a switch pre Voldemort-19 just as shit was about to go sideways, I guess she’d heard enough of my animal crossing whining. So yeah, animal crossing is animal crossing, which is awesome, only it looks and sounds better than ever. Not a fan of the crafting aspect and having to make new tools every five seconds, but other than that, this is a perfect continuation of the game’s tradition. I’ll likely be playing this one for years (played the 3DS one for over two years!).
A work friend lent me a copy of Super Mario Odyssey to try. Played Sunshine back in the day, and galaxy more recently, both were amazing titles, but DAAAYUM! Odyssey is an EVENT. Perfect culmination of music, art, controls, lore, all of that shit. I’m only on the cascade world, and my mind is blown. There are lots of great games out there, but this one oozes next level commitment and love (likely slave labour sweat and tears as well). It’s sad that one player experiences are less in demand these days, but I’m glad this sucker is around, even the gimmick hat works perfectly (better than the star thingy in galaxy and the backpack in sunshine!). My favourite game of the year by far (I know it’s been around for a bit....).
I downloaded the Ape Out demo, y’all need to try that, what a cool game. I’m tired of the pixely, 8/16 bit throwback, artsy Indy games, but this one stands out, procedurally generated jazzy drums, a fun, very splattery escape from a variety of enemies that require you to change your escape tactics. Fun stuff, at the very least, try the demo!

Every time I go to start Animal Crossing I always get sidetracked by Mario Kart. A lot of my family is scattered around now, but we all have Switch's so every Saturday we all go online and play Mario Kart for a couple hours. We all have Discord on our computers so we can all talk to each other while we play. Seriously Nintendo, no type of voice communication in game at all?
I quite enjoy the NES and SNES emulator app on the Switch as well. Amazingly got sucked back into playing the original Super Mario Bros. A game I could dominate as a kid; I tried to do a full playthrough with no warps but didn't get passed world 6. Still, playing Pro Wrestling and Super Mario Bros. giving me nostalgia flashbacks to Christmas of 1986. Still hoping for those Mario remasters. Mario 64 remastered has me really excited. I loved that game on the N64 and never got all the stars because the damn N64 controllers would always wear out so quickly and become useless.
I finally gave up on my Zombie Army Trilogy solo playthrough on the hardest difficulty. Made it to pretty close to the end of the game. Last chapter; but I got to a scenario I tried at least thirty times and could just not get passed. When there is one enemy that can't be taken out with five direct panzerfaust hits but can kill you in one or two hits, I officially consider that unfair and gave up. At least on single player. And I also needed HD space to install FFVII.
So now I have Doom Eternal, Persona 5 Royale and Final Fantasy VII Remake waiting in the wings, although I still get sidetracked by Katana Kami. I figure I'll play for just an hour, but always get sucked in to three hours.
Still have to finish Langrisser I. I'm sure I'm pretty close to end game of the first one. My brother also bought me a pre-order of Gears of War Tactics on PC for my birthday but I don't know how will my PC will run it. I'm officially now getting prepped to buy a new PC, I'm just kind've holding off until closer to the end of the year since I still plan on getting a PS5 at launch (if possible) and still have to pay off the other half of my Intellivision Amico. If I can't get a PS5 at launch I will likely divert money to a new PC because hopefully the third installment of Warhammer Total War will be out by then.
Also with Fire Pro finally coming up to completion I've finally started at picking away at some things. Getting my feds, rings and belts set up on both PC and PS4 is what I am starting on. Then will start filling up the rosters piecemeal. I only run NJPW, AJPW, NOAH and now maybe AEW as my default western promotion to start out with.

My favourite game of the year by far (I know it’s been around for a bit....). The tool crafting in AC will get better when you get to making non-flimsy tools. They'll still wear out, but it takes MUCH longer than the flimsy ones do. Unless I go on a massive wood chopping binge, any given tool usually lasts a few days, as opposed to, like, minutes. And yes, Mario Odyssey is FANTASTIC. I don't know how I didn't hear more about it before. Like, I'd heard it was good, but yeah, it's totally, insanely off-the-rails good. And the hat could have been such a stupid gimmick, but it works so well. Both for platforming as well as the gameplay variety you get from possessing different stuff. You're super early yet too, so I don't want to give anything away. But yeah, just keep playing. It's good shit.

3 hours into Final Fantasy VII Remake. I love this game. The detail they put into the world is staggering. I often just slowly walk from place to place just so I can take in all the nuance in what's going on around me. I just think of what they could do with a Final Fantasy VI Remake.

I would spend about 6 months real time just exploring Figaro Castle 🏰 It would make my pace through the Red Dead games look breakneck in comparison 😁

Was just browsing the PS store and see a Technos collection of NES games has been released. The NES versions of Double Dragon, Double Dragon II, Double Dragon III, Renegade, Super Dodge Ball, Crash and the Boys and River City Ransom are all now up on the store. Well I have all these on emulator, but I couldn't resist having some of these classics playable on a PS4 so I picked up all the Double Dragon games and River City Ransom from the collection.
You can also buy it as a bundle. I see all the Japanese Kunio Kun games come with the bundle as well.
