Besides playing FireProWorld off and on I finally dragged my modded PS2 out of mothballs and hooked it back up. It's nestled nicely on top of my PS4 I can now play those amazing KoC games again!

Even people say at work they know when to prepare for a snow storm, because it usually happens the day I come back from vacation. LOL it's going to be marked by a day on the work calendar soon 😁 There's nothing like having such a nice break and time off. And it has already been a cold winter so I'm sure you're looking forward to staying in on other cold days, though I know you enjoy running outside. I'm glad that you get to have this time off, relax and play games as much as you can for the next month! 😀 I have a backlog that needs work as well as a few games that went from "currently" six months ago to "lapsed" as a result of just not being able to give them consistent attention. As a result, I'm pretty much confining myself to a few games that I regularly play (like FPW and KOF 2002:UM) rather than any type of story/adventure game where I've had problems maintaining momentum, and then memory. I'd love some more time to get back into and actually finish Red Dead 2 but the more time I put into that, the less I remember to sleep and that seems to cause problems for some reason, haha. I really hope, for all of our sakes, that the worst of winter is over by March.

Five hours into Zombie Army 4. So far so good, as the saying goes, if it's not broke don't fix it. If you've played Zombie Army Trilogy it's a continuation of the story and even provides a brief recap of the last few games in the opening cinematic. Game play is pretty similar to the old ones with some new features including a perk system and weapon modification system you can locate upgrade kits around levels to use. I always play on the hardest difficulty to get the true experience out of these games but I noticed now the zombies will reanimate after a few seconds unless they are put down with a head shot or their bodies are cut to pieces. Fortunately the game gives you a head stomp move to prevent this from happening. It's been so long since I played the original trilogy that I don't remember if that happened in them or not. New melee kills as well. A lot of the original enemy types remain but they threw in some new ones to keep things interesting and you will be dealing with new mechanized zombie units of which I have seen a tank, APC and bomber plans that literally drop zombies. The atmosphere and setting of these games is great. Unsettling and dark. Europe is basically fucked and overrun by zombies and the in areas the earth is literally breaking apart and collapsing in on itself. The game still presented like it's a 70's grind-house exploitation film as the last games did. Lots of customizable settings as well. You can set the frequency of the cinematic sniper glory kills as well as the Xray portion of the kill if you like. I literally have this on maximum frequency because I never get tired of them. Same in the old games. Your traps can now trigger cinematic glory kills as well. You can also set performance level, I presume if you're on a regular PS4 or playing 4 player coop you can adjust the performance to keep your FPS up which I am glad to see more developers including in console games. A pretty simple game to play when you're half delirious with a head cold, but like the others in the series really fun, and once I finish, it's made me want to go back and play through the original trilogy again.

Finished Zombie Army 4 but was stupidly mashing the X button to perform my special kill on Hitler at the end of the game and accidentally ended up skipping the kill and the entire last cutscene.
Trying to decide now if I want to give the original Zombie Army Trilogy another playthrough on the hardest difficulty or if I am going to try and get the Resident Evil series played through before Nemesis comes out.

I've been experimenting with VPW2's Ranking mode to see how I might feel about using it for efed purposes. It has potential as a sort of micro "promotion and relegation" setup.
If you've never used it (which, judging by Freem Edition's comments on it, is possible), it's basically a ranking system for three to sixteen player profiles without necessarily locking anyone in to a given character or even whether they're human or CPU. It can also be single or tag.
There's an opening tournament to establish starting ranks. Depending on the number of entrants, there may be smaller sub-tournaments as well to subdivide the lower ranks. It took 12 matches just to set up an eight player league, for example, and I think it took 28 matches to sort a full field of sixteen.
Suffice to say, I've watched a lot of sims recently. It's also helped remind me why I enjoyed the AKI games so much, though. Unless the AI is being thick as a brick, of course.
Anyway, after the initial rankings are set, competition begins. A lower-ranked challenger takes their opponent's rank with a victory and everyone in between moves down one spot.
In effect, there's a champion and up to three divisions. The five top contenders are essentially the first division and the only ones that may challenge the champion. The next five would be a second division and may challenge for a spot in the first division. Any remaining players below that are "rank out" but may compete to move up to division two.
Again, I feel like it may be useful for my purposes once I get my CAWs ready. Sixteen profiles, sixteen CAW slots. It works. But then I've also found GameShark codes that basically double the number of CAW slots by allowing direct access to the memory pak. Playing around with 32 fully original characters is tempting...

Didn't get to try the FFVII demo yet because I literally played One Punch Man all night. Got pretty heavily addicted and couldn't put it down. Turned out a lot deeper than I thought it would be.
The game takes place concurrently with season 1 of the show and you get news bulletins about events from the series. You start off as a random character you make who gets saved by Saitama during a monster attack and decide you're going to become a Hero as well. The game flash forwards you to having just completed your Hero application test and been accepted as a Class C Level 1 Hero. You then basically go through a lengthy tutorial mode as the game explains everything to you. Once you complete tutorial mode the online portion of the game opens up which is really cool. I also immediately went to options and changed the voice overs to Japanese since that's how I watch the show.
All the other players currently playing online appear in the city along with you. You can interact with emotes, view their Hero profiles in the Hero Handbook that keeps track of stats, you can create Hero friends lists as well. The public bulletin board says there are upcoming community events, but nothing seems to be active yet since the game literally just started up. I may be wrong, but from what I gathered from one of the bulletin boards is that people will be able to create their own super hero faction of up to 8 or 12 heroes. There are going to be leader boards, tournaments and other various community events apparently.
So you start doing missions in the game either from random people in the street, mission centers or the Hero HQ itself. You also get the opportunity to meet a lot of the characters from the show and get the chance to befriend them. In fact each character from the show has a rating of their current attitude toward you which you can increase by helping them out on missions (usually just a fight). As you get in good standing with the characters you find they teach you combat techniques that you are able to use.
The entire combat system is based upon a particular Stance of your choosing, which you get to fill in with appropriate techniques you learn relevant to that stance. You start off with basic all around offense/defense melee stance for example. When I met Silverfang he taught me one of his techniques which I was able to slot into one of the three slots for the Melee stance. You actually start off with one slot but unlock the other two as you level up. So far I only know three stances, Melee (Martial Arts), I forget what it is in game but it's basically Grappling (Wrestling like moves)and Weapon (using swords or baseball bats and other type of blunt force objects).
Square button is light attacks, triangle is heavy. They can be mixed up into different combos. You can also hold the button to charge each one for an armor break attack. Circle is block and if you time a circle press just before a hit you get a special parry where you quickly circle around behind your opponent. Circle and Triangle together are throw and you can also use this to counter throws on you. There is also dashes and dodges that you have a stamina meter for and your special Killing techniques that require a certain amount of stamina points to use depending on the technique. Fortunately you can charge up your stamina by holding L2 and X.
In one night I went from Level 1 to Level 22 and ranked up my Hero class from C level to B level. You earn XP which you can spend on upgrading your 5 parameters as well as unlock new gear in shops. At the start of the game you are basically in civilian clothing and slowly unlock more clothing items from a clothing store as you play. You can then recolor them as you like. When you're running around the city with high level players you're very envious of all the fancy hero costumes they put together while you still only have access to pretty much civilian clothes.
You also get to give your Hero a Super Hero name or the game will pick one for you. When I upgraded from C to B class it gave me the option to pick a new Hero name and the game reminds you there is a hidden person somewhere who can change you hero name for a fee.
You also get your own apartment which you can furnish, I don't really know if this actually does anything or not or if they just threw it in to give you something to spend money on. In your apartment you can also go into your closet where you can save up to 8 different preset outfits. I love this. Saves so much time, especially when your hero has a lot of alternate looks. Now you can easily switch into 8 different versions. Now I also unlocked something I haven't got to work yet, but from the sounds of it, if you're out in your civilian clothing you can swap into a Hero outfit by pressing in on R3.
Combat takes a little getting used to. Definitely not smooth like a standard fighting game and some fights you will get to use other Hero's from the show depending on the mission. You can swap between two or three characters during a fight at any time (if any show up) with R1 and L1. Also if you're online sometimes other hero's that show up will be other players hero's if they are currently online. There are also modifiers that can occur during fights from item drops to buff a character who gets it, to natural disasters like meteor showers and lightning storms.
The game captures the show pretty well, same humor and you get news updates on your in-game phone's e-mail. I actually ended up playing all night simply because I wanted to get my Hero some cool gear. I have a couple decent low tier hero costumes now where I don't look like a civilian. The first hero name the game offered me was The Sweater, I think because my character was wearing a sweater.
Most of the actual gameplay is simply going from fight to fight but I am anxious to see what kind of community stuff they come up with. Whether it will just be fighting tournaments or include other things as well.

Did my first play through of the FFVII Remake demo and loved it. Hard to believe they can still up the graphics even more on the PS4 this late in the consoles life. I actually like the new combat system but I can definitely see how it could become overwhelming to people alternating between three characters at once while performing real time combat. On my next play through I am going to try the Classic game mode to see how that one feels. Supposed to be a little more subdued and closer to the original turn based gameplay.
Oh yes and Barrett singing the classic Final Fantasy VII victory song at the end of a fight was great.

I've got some more fighting stances in One Punch Man. Tried to become Saitama's disciple and Genos got mad at me. So Saitama told Genos to accept me as a disciple so he would know how it feels, so Genos gave me the Machine fighting stance to learn. I also got the Psychokinetic fighting stance from Hell Blizzard and the Bat stance from Metal Bat. So I have 5 fighting stances to pick from now.
Fights are really starting to get challenging now. Early in the game you're curb stomping pretty much everyone, but now I'm getting some challenges and some losses. With fights becoming a little more back and forth they sometimes take on a great cinematic look to them. Still haven't met all the heroes from show yet either, I figure I'll get more fighting stances when I meet them. I really want the sword fighting stance, especially since I just bought a sword.

For that matter, I wonder if it is just limited to the anime and if it has any manga references. This is encouraging. I'm really hoping for a deep fighting experience. 3D anime fighting games like this tend to float between "action beat em up" and "fighting game" but I hope this gravitates toward the latter pole. The special parry and throw system sounds good as does the dash/dodge system. Rurouni Kenshin Enjou Kyote Rinne was probably the best anime action/fighter I've ever played. I'm hoping OPM has a similar level of depth of combos and tactical movement.

So far I haven't noticed any references to season 2 of the anime yet.
I've also discovered during fights that attacking at the exact same time as your opponent cancels out each others attack. Offensively the combat is basically geared around trying to lock in a combo string of hits on your opponent and making it last as long as possible to wear down their life bar, while defensively you use your dodges, dashes, blocks and counters to try and make your opponent commit to whiffing an attack and creating an opening for you. You can create your own play style with each type of combat stance having advantages and disadvantages against certain opponents. I wouldn't say its as deep as other fighting games, but it's still fun. I haven't even done any VS fights against other human players yet so fights may be much more dramatic.
I'm at the point in the game now where fights have gone from easy curbstomps into really hard battles. I'm still basically at the first boss in the game and to beat him you only need to take his health down by 80%, but he can beat you in a couple hits. I've even found one guy who can beat you in one hit.
Another thing is I still have no idea how to use items. I have a ton of them they all say they do different stuff, but I've yet to find anywhere I can actually use an item before or during a battle. I'm going to have to look it up. I have stuff like a Cellphone which summons an ally fighter in case you're ever in a fight with no other heroes around. I have a stopwatch which makes ally fighters show up to a battle quicker, but I have no idea how to use them.
You can turn your hero into a monster as well because I've discovered unlocking monster body parts recently. The current number two guy on the leader boards has turned his hero into a giant 8 winged monster man type of character.
I did figure out how to use bookstore items. They're items you can buy that you can slot into your character's fighter set. They're basically battle modifiers like Attack Up, Hit Points Up, Stamina Regenerates faster, stuff like that.

One Punch Man arrived yesterday!! I hope to get some time to play it this weekend. Between two DLC's for FPW I haven't gotten yet, and Castlevania... Saitama is gonna have more worthy competition than usual! 😁 (I don't think anyone can take down FPW with one punch. Even Red Dead could only temporarily lasso it) So far I haven't noticed any references to season 2 of the anime yet. I saw you mentioned turning your hero into a monster later in your post. But the way you describe it sounds to be more"create a fighter" swapping appearance body parts than story-line based changes. You haven't yet seen any way to have your fighter eat a monster heart yet, right? I've also discovered during fights that attacking at the exact same time as your opponent cancels out each others attack. Offensively the combat is basically geared around trying to lock in a combo string of hits on your opponent and making it last as long as possible to wear down their life bar, while defensively you use your dodges, dashes, blocks and counters to try and make your opponent commit to whiffing an attack and creating an opening for you. I wouldn't say its as deep as other fighting games, but it's still fun. I haven't even done any VS fights against other human players yet so fights may be much more dramatic. I figured it was pretty combo heavy with a few defensive tactics to allow you to into your combos. Like all the dodges and counters are probably cool but are mostly there to get into that combo. I wonder if there are any fighters or styles that allow for one-hit style moves that take off a lot of damage. How much freedom and creativity are we allowed with the combos? I'm at the point in the game now where fights have gone from easy curbstomps into really hard battles. I'm still basically at the first boss in the game and to beat him you only need to take his health down by 80%, but he can beat you in a couple hits. I've even found one guy who can beat you in one hit.
Seems appropriate for the game 😁 Another thing is I still have no idea how to use items.
Hopefully guides will start to clarify all of this. It's cool there is so much to play around with in the game though. The way you describe the game reminds me a little of the original No More Heroes on Wii.

Three chapters into Langrisser I&II. If you're a fan or Wargroove and Fire Emblem, this is a must buy. It's almost a combination of both games. Only downsides, no multiplayer and no editor like Wargroove to make your own stories and maps.
