After seeing the trailer for The Pacific DLC for Battlefield V I finally conceded and ordered myself a cheapy copy. Looks like Dice is finally getting back to some historical based game play. The original reason I avoided BFV this time around was due to their complete dismissal of history upon the initial release of the game. That initial launch trailer still makes me cringe to this day. Been playing Darkwood since Halloween. What a great little gem of a game. It does have a issues where it will hiccup when it loads new data which I initially thought was my PS4 acting up, but upon checking various forums it's a known issue even on the PC version. It definitely gives me a Darkseed and Lone Survivor vibe and I suspect like Lone Survivor may have a twist ending. It's one of those games that gives you no story or background to what has happened. You find clues here and there. In the initial tutorial prologue of the game you discover the year might be 1987 which means the tutorial mission might take place several years after the main game since you also find a clue that it might be 1985. It's truly built in the mold of the oldschool classic survival horror style. A lot of equipment management, exploration, puzzle solving, crafting and intentionally cumbersome combat to encourage alternate ways to defeat opponents. So far I have no idea what has happened in the world aside from the fact most people and animals are either dead or insane. Trees and dark forests have overtaken much of the landscape as well as a mist that limits your vision. You don't even know who or what you are and at one point you find a mirror to see yourself and I get the impression you may not necessarily be a good guy. It has day and night cycles. In the day you're free to explore the environment scavenging for supplies, clues and landmarks to update on your map. The map never pinpoints where you are and you only have a general idea of your location based on any landmarks you are near. You have your safehouse and are able to locate other safe houses. The stoves of these safe houses perpetually cook some sort of strange concoction which creates an odor that acts as a repellent to the night time supernatural entities. The night time in this game gets crazy. You can't be outside of your safe house when the sun goes down and you'll definitely want to spend your early game barricading windows and crafting traps to put by doors or un-barricaded entry points. Spend your night time hours sorting supplies and crafting because you'll want to use your daylight hours exploring and gathering without wasting time. Your safe house has a generator which you must keep topped up with gasoline to keep your limited lights on as the light repels the supernatural entities that fill up the world after dark. As the hours tick by the sound design of the game kicks in to full effect as all sorts of phenomena that you can't see starts to happen. From whispering voices, knocks on the doors and even the frightening sound of a potential intruder rummaging around darkened rooms of your safe house. The tension builds each night just to the point when dawn begins to break and you can breathe a sigh of relief. Apparently there is also a litany of "Nightmare Events" that take place at night. I know on one occasion the apparition of a man appeared in my bedroom and just kept repeating "We need to get out of here" over and over. You'll also meet a couple of creepy unknown neutral parties who act as traders you can barter supplies with. It has an interesting barter system where instead of currency all items have a value point so you trade supplies back and force based on item value instead of currency. I recommend obtaining a wrist watch as soon as possible to help keep track of the time of day. You can know exactly how much time you have on your exploration excursions and when 8am arrives, the official time of day dawn arrives. Definitely a game to play at night with the lights out. It keeps an atmosphere of melancholy and foreboding at all times as well as a sense of paranoia and dread with the eerie sound design and not knowing what the hell is in the other room at night scratching the walls while you watch the fuel gauge on your generator slowly drain, hoping there is enough fuel until 8am.
EDIT: My copy of Death Stranding is now in the mail.

One thing I love most about this thread is your very in depth descriptions of games that have gameplay that isn't exactly my cup of tea but still have thematic elements that totally are my thing. I feel like I get to enjoy some of the game experience just hearing you talk about it! 😎 Like this totally does it for me: The night time in this game gets crazy. I know on one occasion the apparition of a man appeared in my bedroom and just kept repeating "We need to get out of here" over and over. I'm a big fan of "I AM LEGEND" for this reason. It sounds like this game nailed a similar day/night contrast and that feeling of "relative safety" in your safehouse. Like maybe you are okay for one night and you are definitely better inside than outside but you are not okay indefinitely without having to work for it. You can't just stay inside and hope for the best. You have to venture out to the daytime and get shit done then hunker down and hope for the best. I love the night phenomena "random events" as well. That sounds awesome! This is not a game to ever dare touch if your actual heating unit makes loud, sudden noises, LOL 😁🔥😱

Almost through Days Gone, must be at the tail end of the game now. Only a handful of story missions left, a dozen smaller hordes to wipe out and at least one super horde left. Doing all the side quests it's probably taken about as long to play through a Red Dead game as it has for playing Days Gone.
So here's a final look back at some funny glitches and reactions from other players.

Finished all the story missions in Days Gone and also got the "Bonus" epilogue. If you get the bonus epilogue ending you do in fact unlock the infamous Taser. Awesome cliffhanger ending as well. I'm thinking Days Gone 2 may go for an urban setting this time around instead of rural. I gotta admit though, once I wipe out the remaining hordes I am anxious to finally leave Oregon with Days Gone being my main console game over the last three months. Gotta get some space cleared up on the Pro for March and April with both FFVII Remake and Resident Evil 3 coming.

I'm getting back into the swing of things with PES 2020. I'm in the mood to do a Master League run with a historic, but created (altered history) team, and wanted to start from bottom (second-tier league) up. The two options I want to run with are:
Club Athletico Paulistano, Brazil: Founded in 1900, This was one of Sao Paulo's first big teams from a big city when amateurism in football/soccer was major in Brazil. It also produced one of first black/mixed legends in the sport with Arthur Friedenreich. Paulistano and rival AA Palmeiras united to form the original incarnation of Sao Paulo FC when members of the clubs pushed for professionalism. Today, Paulistano are among the best professional basketball teams in Brazil.
Racing Club de France Football, France: Racing is one of France's oldest mutli-sport clubs, founded in 1882. The club is a founding member of Ligue 1, and won the title in 1935-36. The club has also won the Coupe de France five times: 1936, 1939, 1940, 1945 and 1949. For most of its early existence, the club was the premier team in Paris, even having matches d'honneur, high-profile friendly matches with Arsenal. However, the club faced financial difficulties in the '60s, and with an emerging Paris Saint-Germain in the '80s, the wildly free-spending Racing crashed out of the spotlight by 1990. The club is currently playing at amateur level, in the 5th Division of French football, playing at the nearby suburb of Colombes. Their stadium for most of its existence, the Stade Yves-du-Manoir, was the main stadium for the 1924 Olympics, and was used for the setting of the 1981 WWII soccer film Escape to Victory with Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, and legendary footballers Sir Bobby Moore and Pele.

At the last boss in Blasphemous now and it's one of those bastards that spams a million magical projectiles at once. So I'm taking a break from it and started Arbiter Fell Seal, a spiritual successor to the Tactics Ogre/Final Fantasy Tactics games. So far I am really liking it, especially the character customization. The very first two mercenaries I recruited I made up as Vicks and Wedge, in a reasonable approximation to how they looked in their Final Fantasy VI Imperial armor. The game does not have permadeath which I find a little disappointing as I like my strategy games to have that additional element of risk. It does however have an Injury system where fallen units are sidelined for a period of time due to injuries and suffer permanent stat damage when they recover. I know my brother is a huge fan of Final Fantasy Tactics so I just bought him the Steam version as it is currently on sale.
EDIT: Oh good, there is permadeath in the game but it only comes into play on the hardest difficulty setting or in the customized rule set.

In an attempt to break away from the quick fix temptation of Rocket League, I decided to check out some of my installed backlog. I found Hydro Thunder, it was a games with gold title at some point, a 360 arcade game, what a nice surprise! The game is ten years old already, but it looks pretty good and is a lot of fun to play! Lots of secret routes, unlockable boats, avatar items, gamer pics, all kinds of crap (I forgot how common unlockable shit was in the last generation)! At least one of you has an xbox, so if you’re in the mood for a fun, arcade style boat racer, check out hydro thunder!

Super fun game, though. The futuristic boats remind me of F-Zero a bit (another badass racing game that hasn't been made in a while). I really dig fantastic/futuristic racing games that DON'T use weapon pickups and the like, so this was up my alley. I think at one point I was in the top couple thousand times in the world on the course set in Japan, which is pretty good for me. Might have to go play this again.

Fire Pro World, actually. It's been a while.
Recently I played quite a bit of X-COM Enemy Unknown. Love that game, but the more you play, the more you can own that game. You can play very safe and conservative and go through all the missions without losing soldiers.
I played my first game of Fortnite and finished 27th. Wasn't hooked.
Played a ton of Smash in recent months.

Wolfenstein 2 is bananas! They’ve crushed it again, there’s so much love put into these titles, the level of polish, the great control, the dark humour, and their ability to tackle crazy social issues without losing the series’ identity as an over the top nazi grinding gore fest is a real treat! Make sure to check this one out!
Side note, anyone here play Void Bastards? I’ve been interested in it since its release and it’s on a small discount at the Xbox store. It’s the same price as Days Gone, so I am looking for input from you fine people as to where my money would be better spent (Void Bastards or Days Gone)? Thanks!

Void Basturds is a throwback 90s fps but a roguelike with some stealth elements. It's mostly well received fun stuff. Days Gone is an open world zombie game. It was shit on during release because it didn't do much new besides a large zombie horde system that I guess wasn't used often and the game had a lot of bugs. I haven't played it myself but it seems fine. Someone else on here seemed to enjoy it and would be able to tell you more about it.

I like it. Quirky dark humor with rogue-like setting and very simplistic point/shoot/duck/run and use gameplay. Art style reminds me of Borderlands. I got the urge to try it after playing Deep Sky Derelicts which has a similar story premise of scavenging through abandoned space ships for loot. It's a pick up and play game and you don't have to worry about investing long amounts of time. Similar to other rogue style games, like FTL, you die a lot and have to start over, but seeing how far you can get is part of the fun. Pretty limited end game content though. A lot of people on the steam forums are hoping for an expansion DLC because once you're through it, there's not much else to do but start over and do it again.
Days Gone requires a pretty lengthy time investment. I don't know for sure how many hours I put in, but I would say between 40 and 50 to 100% all the missions and it does have optional post game content challenges if you want to keep playing.
In unrelated news, I finally got a Switch for Christmas. I finally get a Switch and Amazon is sold out of the damn Pro controllers so now I gotta track a couple of those down.

I tried Star Wars Battlefield II, since I read in reviews it is finally good and fair (no longer pay to win), and I am getting pwnd. Still need to figure out what the heck I'm doing but the game nails the Star-Wars feeling so well that I really don't care. Will definitely try that some more.
Also played Darksiders Genesis with a friend. I didn't play any Darksiders game in the past and I don't care about the lore or story. The only reason I play this is because the game was designed for co-op and the core gameplay is super fun. Even though you are fighting hordes of demons, the conversation between characters and the atmosphere in general is lighthearted and fun. Mechanics are pretty deep (at least for me) so yeah, definitely in the "I'll play this more" category. The main character looks like Reaper from Overwatch so there's that.
I'm feeling very Witchery with all the renewed hype around the franchise. Hope it'll push me to finally play the game seriously soon.

Dude, check out Jedi: Fallen Order if you get a chance. I got it for Christmas and I only have a few hours in it but it's been really good so far. It feels a little bit like Tomb Raider/Uncharted had a Star Wars baby with God of War. The setting is really cool too - it takes place between the prequels and originals, and actually helps stitch them together and feel like they both could share the same setting, something that was a little lacking in the prequels themselves.

Really want to play it but I bought SO many games over the past month or two that I have to keep myself somewhat in check and reduce the backlog at least by a bit (not to mention being a responsible adult with a mortgage and two kids).
