My copy is still in the mail. I had a couple Amazon gift cards lying around so I finally used them up and aside from Sekiro I have Generation Zero, Assassins Creed III Remastered, Assassins Creed Rogue Remastered and The Division 2 all on the way. My SNK 40th Anniversary arrived on Friday but I haven't opened it yet. On the PS store I picked up The Messenger and Beat Cop but am still working on another run of Darkest Dungeon with the new DLC. And I went ahead and ordered Xenon Racer to hold me over until Crash Team Racing. Division 2 has some buzz, should be good. I had a hard time getting into the first game, but I like single player games, so maybe that’s why it never scratched the itch for me. I’m interested in Crash Racing, it should be fun, time for the plumber and his gang to get a run for their money! Still have to try Darkest Dungeon.

Me and a couple of friends played Generation Zero for a few hours yesterday. It was allot of fun, but I reccomend that you play it with some friends as I think the game-world is a bit to empty to justify a single player playthrough. Has anyone else here played it yet?

The game looks really cool, I love the environment, it reminds me of here (western Canada) quite a bit, and the overall feel of the clips I've seen seems interesting. Haven't tried the game, but it looks like one that would be more fun to play with a group (Left 4 Dead!). I'd love to try this one at some point, I had no idea it was out until I was checking out the PS store just now! :) Anyone here like SHMUPS? I've always had a soft spot for this annoying niche holdover from the arcade allowance vortex days, and I thought I'd recommend Sky Force ("Remastered" or the more recent "Reloaded"). I always keep Sky Force on my xbox, and I find myself going back to it frequently when I need a break from some over complicated, massive title and just want to get back to FUN, twitch gaming that can be as quick as a stage or two, or a meaty, tuck in and do some work session. Sky Force is cool to scratch the SHMUP itch in that it's challenging, but not ridiculously so, and you can upgrade your ship to make it more powerful and take the edge of some of the levels as you progress (but there are added challenges for completionists as you progress so the game never feels unbalanced). One of the cool things about Sky Force are the weekly challenges that come out on Fridays (i think) and last for a few days, every week is different, and there are global leader boards so that you can see how you measure up to everybody else (I get a lot of the equivalent of those blue, "Participant" ribbons you used to get in track and field events back in the day...). Fun game, definitely worth checking out, and there are always sales on both of them, so if you're cheap like me, you can get two great games for a good price! Trailer for Skyforce Reloaded Also, check this other cool looking SHMUP out that I found while perusing the xbox deals this week, I think it's on Switch, too, but I couldn't find it on the PS Store though.

I initially read "Alien Cruise" as "Alien Crush" and got super excited (and a bit confused) that one of my favorite Turbografx pinball games was getting a remastering!!!! Sadly, no, LOL. I haven't really played them much since the NES era but I enjoyed them a lot then. A few days ago I was even randomly just thinking of a few of them I used to play. In general, I miss that twitch gaming (side scrolling beat'em'ups too!) and I miss consoles that turned on within like 30 seconds. These days I feel like I'm preheating an oven anticipating using my PS4 lol.

I love me some SHMUPS even though I am only mediocre at them at best. I have been streaming some SHMUPS on my Twitch channel, most recently Crimson Clover: World Ignition and V-V (V-Five).
I actually have been taking part in a "SHMUP Book Club" with other members of the Twitch community where we pick new games each month as well as one quarterly and run a casual highscore chart. The top 2 scores plus 2 wildcards get to pick the next games we vote on playing. We try to get together Thursday nights on Discord and host a multistream, but everyone is welcome to participate and streaming is not required.
It's been a lot of fun and has encouraged me to put more time into a genre I have neglected for years. If this sounds interesting to anyone let me know and I will get you some more info on how to join in.

I was just thinking something similar to "I miss consoles that turned on within like 30 seconds" the other day when I was sitting there, staring at the xbox ball logo for what felt like an eternity, and while traversing the PS4 home screen, waiting for icons to decide to show up. The preheating an oven analogy is PERFECT! And yeah, my other PS4 diversion, STRAFE, which looks like pixely, two day old shit (but the look is one of many aspects of it's charm) take what feels like a MONTH to start up (versus something like Spiderman or The Last of Us, or God of War...). Oh well, we wait because we are well trained consumers! The SHMUP book club thing sounds cool! I bet you get to see some obscure shit that way, and there ARE some ODD SHMUPS out there (SNK one always stands out for me) and lots of cool stuff, so I bet you see some crazy titles! What a cool idea!

Oh well, we wait because we are well trained consumers! There are many reasons why SNES is my favorite console of all times: the games (especially FFVI) being the main reason. But the overall experience is one I really enjoyed using, especially as the years have gone by. In the time it takes me to even get to actually control my character in Red Dead 2 (my current favorite non-FPW game), I could play about 2 full stages of Super Mario World 🍄 And while RDR 2 is the type of game where I'd play only if I had a solid 90 minutes ahead of me to really dive into, there are other PS4 games I have which I'd love to be able to load and jump into quicker. But the entire experience takes so long that these days I basically have to plan a half hour in advance. It IS cool that PS4 has sleep mode so at least I feel I'm not just pausing the game for like 30-60 minutes before I get to play it. But man, there's really something to be said for the quick console experience of the 90's. Even Steam, which is usually pretty quick to launch games, relies on my computer to be on to quickly use. Most of the time it is but it sucks when it's not and I have to wait for the entire computer launch sequence ("T-minus 10...") to play a Steam 80's or 90's throwback game.

So, had a bit of time this weekend and headed back into Sekiro. I suck at games. Not sure when it happened, but it did. Can’t get past some shithead samurai dude who, as it turns out, isn’t even a boss. All of the NPCs have dragonrot now because I have died about a million times now, so I don’t know whether to start over, or just trade this bitch in. It certainly is NOT tenchu as I had hoped, it is gorgeous and the controls are slick, I just don’t think I have games like Sekiro in me any more. I might need to check some videos or something.
Oh well, back to SHMUPs I guess!😊

Sometimes I think I enjoy Fire Pro and Promoter so much because I don't have to actually do anything besides mouse clicking lol. My physical gaming abilities have dropped off a little with age and lack of usage. I'm still able to get to about 75-90% of my old ability in my favorite fighting games if I spend a few days (though some of the old crazy combos may be beyond my grasp...or patience). But some days I just don't have it. For me though, I've found that my ability to take in truckloads of information about games has taken the biggest hit, especially for games that have a ton of different commands. I just simply can't absorb even 50% of the "moves" in NBA 2K. I realize part of that is because I rarely can play the game a few days in a row. But even with like RDR 2, I have to keep remembering some of the "context-specific" moves that I used to be better at absorbing. I can't even imagine playing some of the more punishing 3D action-adventure games. There's just too much that the game expects me to remember if I am not like making it my number 1 priority. I worry that 24/7 Pong is in my future

Getting ready to dive back into Borderlands as I count down the hours to the release of the remaster. Someone was kind enough to post a refresher video on the story lore of the series to get people up to date on everything story-wise.

Bought the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition yesterday but while I was at work my internet kicked out halfway through the download so I'll be downloading the rest tonight. Also picked up Far: Lone Sails after seeing a trailer for it on the PS store.
In other news, since the snow has finally gone I've been seeing phone company guys around the area all week. Turns out they are back to installing fiber op in the area. I thought I was going to have to wait another year or two, but it could only be a month or two now. Finally I won't be the guy who always lags in online fighting games and won't have to wait to buffer youtube videos before I can play them. And finally downloading patches won't take weeks on end. I haven't even installed The Division 2 yet because I heard the day one patch was enormous.

Sekiro is insane. Like all the Soulsborne games you go from loving it to hating it to loving it again all within the span of minutes. Brutal combat, but some of the fight sequences you pull out of this game look like they've been beautifully choreographed ahead of time. Even in the Japanese setting they've still managed to capture that sense of foreboding the series is known for. I'm getting the feeling not everything is as it seems as the storyline's in these games are kept intentionally nebulous.

I also recently dot my hands on Borderlands GotY for PS4. There's something about the first games simplicity compared to the sequels that make it just that bit more enjoyable for me, maybe even relaxing? Anyway, I get to play as Brick again and punch the shit out of everything so all's right with the world :D

Juzou the Drunkard, you fat fuck bastard. It took me at least 25 tries to kill that fucker. I used the strategy of sneaking up on his minions and killing them all while avoiding Juzou, then ran down to that samurai who will help you fight if you talk to him. So a one on one duel turned into a two on one duel. Everytime Juzou targeted the samurai I'd axe him from behind or douse him in oil and light him up. Finally he killed the samurai but I had taken one of his life orbs so it was a true one on one fair fight now. I must have gone back and forth with him for at least ten minutes as we tried to open up each others defenses with feints and parries. Finally I got the upper hand and ended up getting my killing blow. I wanted to see if anyone else had used my strategy so I did a youtube search, thinking I was so clever, and then I see people had already found a cheap way of beating him in a couple minutes.
Now I am trying to get passed the mounted Samurai. I noted his horse his named Onikage. Tenchu reference!!!
I'm also waiting with baited breath for Sekiro Katana replica's to start showing up on the market.
