Interesting news, rumors and speculation with all the recent PS5 news leaks currently happening. I know I can personally confirm I will be a day one buyer, even though I fully expect a Pro enhanced version a couple years after release which I would also buy. Potential price point of $500 US which means $600+ Canadian. Some games will be cross-generation but no confirmation on backwards compatibility yet. Speculative release dates of either March 2020 or November 2020. I would hope November.

Just finished Little Nightmares, very slick, but short game that feels like the Indy darling Inside meets the anime classic spirited away. There are some very memorable moments in the game, and you’ll never forget most of the amazing and grotesque characters that populate the bleak, creepy, well executed environment (kept being reminded of Bioshock). Little Nightmares has some of the best lighting effects and reflections off of surfaces I’ve seen in any game, coupled with an incredible mood setting soundtrack and great, fear inducing sound effects, all add up to create the game’s dreary, grimey atmosphere. This is a very short, and sadly overlooked little gem, grab it if you see a sale and want a refreshing break from the usual fare, what an awesome game!

Little Nightmares was a good game! Really eerie and some of the characters creeped me the f***k out! Yeah, there were some demented and beautiful minds at work with respect to character design! The whole package is great, but yeah, CREEPY ASS characters you will not forget!

Really liking "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" so far. I liked Origins but it really kind of dragged in bits towards the middle. While I'm nowhere near that far into Odyssey (I hope.....sheesh) the game seems much more action-oriented from the onset and I'm enjoying that. Instead of having a skill for pretty much everything like in origins (which included things dealing with animals, mounts, and other miscellanous non-combat things) the abilities list in origins is pretty much ALL about combat, both direct and stealth-focused. Given that your Main Character is a Spartan, they're pretty prone to do badass things with sword, spear, club, and bow. Also, as a history geek, this game probably had one of my favorite tutorial chapters ever
you play as Spartan King Leonidas I on the eve of the final day at the Battle of Thermopylae! And just because THAT movie brought Ancient Sparta back into the cultural consciousness, one of the very first and most useful attacks that you can have in the game is called "Spartan Kick." You KNOW what it looks like xD [\spoiler]

Doing some PC gaming lately.
They Are Billions has become an addiction for me over the last couple weeks. An RTS with a very simple premise; make your colony survive in a zombie apocalypse wasteland for a certain amount of days. I'm playing it on normal difficulty and still find it brutally difficult. As the days tick by the infected gradually go from docile to agitated to insanely homicidal. Not to mention every couple of weeks hordes of increasing size and strength throw themselves at your defenses. Addictive economy, resource and defense management all rolled into one. The tension is always high as your limited colony space fills up quickly and you send out scouts and soldiers to look for resources and clear out the infected to expand your settlement. Sometimes one little zombie will find a crack in your defenses and make your whole game come to a crashing end as they start infecting your population and your colony collapses like dominoes. The game is enraging and yet I can't stop playing. It's still in its Early Access phase, there is actually a single player campaign coming out for it at the full release, but even as is now, the game is fun to play.
Battle Brothers dubbing itself as a Mercenary Company simulator is a game you could actually write out your entire experience as a novel or short story if you don't do that well. Minimalist graphics combined with insanely detailed gameplay. The premise being your mercenary company has been ambushed and only a handful of survivors remain with you as the new captain. You now have to rebuild your mercenary company managing rosters and equipment but also take on contracts to expand your warchest and deal with the political environment of the factions you come into contact with. Not only that but you have to manage the morale of your company, pay wages and create an operational hierarchy in your company to keep things running smoothly as it grows. The minamalist graphics are made up for with an insane amount of detail and nuance in the gameplay. Combat is your standard turnbased grid style, but a text scroll keeps track of intricate details as they play out providing an exciting on the fly narrative and even your little mercenary avatars will show battle damage as they receive or give it, including a surprisingly gory and satisfying decapitation animation. Of course you also have the ability to name your company, pick your banner and rename all the mercenaries you hire. Interestingly enough all the characters have in depth back stories to not only help add to their character flavor but also give hints and clues on special skills and abilities they may also have. A new DLC just came out for it that expands the game considerably as more fantasy elements have been introduced as well as customization abilities to really give your mercenary company it's own style.

So a "funny" thing happened when I was playing Spider-Man on PS4 a while back. I stopped playing it about 90% of the way through the main story because I got into Soul Calibur 6 (something I'd waited on for a good while). Having just started Assassin's Creed Odyssey, I figured I should go back and finish off Spider-Man before forgetting about it completely. So glad that I finally did. Holy crap did they capture Peter's character perfectly! I mean, I knew that all along but his biggest crisis points reached their heads in the last act and his ever-present internal conflict came into clear focus during it. Pretty great stuff, even if the final battle was a bit annoying (pretty easy really, but I guess it being how it was made sense for both the characters and the narrative).

For the THOUSANDS of Critical!Club members out there with xbox ones two other Critical!Club members out there with xbox ones, the newest set of reverse compatible games that were released this week include Kingdoms of Amalur . I missed the game somehow, and being a fan of the Fable series, I've had TONS of people telling me that I need to try Amalur because it is everything Fable should have been. Anyway, just thought you two other xbox owners might be interested. :)

Been messing around with Fallout 4 (talked to my cousin who has played the shit out of F3, F:NV, and F4, he put the hard sell on F4, especially because of how much I enjoyed Skyrim.), and so far I'm enjoying it. Such a lot of detail, and yeah, feels a LOT like Skyrim mechanics-wise. Pretty cool stuff, I think I might like this one.
As cool as F4 is, I'm in a "Holy shit, that game rocked my gaming world" hangover after Spiderman. These "hangovers" suck, they make everything else feel so vanilla in comparison. This has happened in the past for me after Skyrim, RDR, Bioshock (1 and 2), Mass Effect, and I'm sure a few other titles I'm forgetting. Forza Horizon 4 and (don't judge) Rocket League are helping, but DAAAYUM, I can't shake the Spiderman blues!
Any suggestions from the Club? I'm kinda thinking of trying Witcher 3, or maybe jumping back into God of War 4... Spoiled for choice, just not a shit ton of spare time for gaming these days, so any suggestions are welcome!

I love the game hangover metaphor. A lot of good games suffered from being played by me after a game that blew me away. A ton of REALLY good 2005 era games didn't get the attention they deserved because of FPR too. One of the reasons I loved Sleeping Dogs so much was that it somehow avoided the post-RDR 1 hangover. For any game to pull that off is pretty incredible and Sleeping Dogs did it with gusto. One could almost say playing that worked because it was the hair of the dog that bit me 😁 *Flees*And *Fleas* & *Fleas* u

I can assume you've played RDR2? Or... Nope, not yet. I know, I know. I haven't even been snooping around in the thread here, I want the game to be a total surprise. I've been holding off because I have a backlog to deal with AND festivus is on the way, maybe it will show up then?...:)

For any game to pull that off is pretty incredible and Sleeping Dogs did it with gusto. One could almost say playing that worked because it was the hair of the dog that bit me 😁 I LOVED Sleeping Dogs! I played Skyrim almost exclusively for over a year, with the ALMOST part coming when I threw Sleeping Dogs into the mix. One of the few games I 100%ed, the music, the fighting, the interactive environments (table saw to the FACE combo!), the foot and car chases, the world itself, all awesomely executed! I even remember busting into it again once I realized I'd done it all in Skyrim and nothing else could scratch the itch! Anyone here who missed Sleeping Dogs, GRAB IT! It goes on ridiculous sales all of the time (less that $10), and if you are into really awesome games (with a Rocksteady Batman game type hand to hand combat system) and having a great time, you should probably play it! I might keep trying Fallout 4, but I also might dust off Yakuza 0 again (hopefully I can remember how to play that beast again!). *Fleas... uh, Flees* :)
