Bret getting jumped during the HOF speeches was awful. On the upside, I'm sure security beat the living shit out of that guy before they called the cops. In a similar story, Enzo and Big Cass showed up at the NJPW/ROH Supercard at MSG and jumped the rail right after the ROH Tag Title match, and mixed it up with security and other wrestlers. I doubt it was a work because they cut away from it right away and didn't mention Enzo or Cass by name. Pretty crazy night.

The wrestlers (and Rousey’s bloke) beat the shit out of him before security could get their hands on him and it was glorious! I feel awful for Bret but at least that wanker got what he deserved.

Well, well, a wrestling packed weekend. I watched all of the NXT Takeover show Friday, and the NJPW/ROH show Saturday, and I plan to watch the entire 8 hour schmozz that is WM35 tonight. While I absolutely cannot be arsed to do a detailed match by match analysis of everything, here's my thoughts on the events if anyone cares: NXT Takeover New York: I've never seen the War Raiders in action before, but holy shit those big boys can move. They put on an absolutely breathless spotfest of a match to open the show against Black/Ricochet. Supremely entertaining, and the crowd was insanely hot for all of it.
Matt Riddle is one of the most vanilla dudes I've seen in a long time, and I generally don't like guys who work barefoot, but he was pretty beastly. I dig his moveset. A lot.
Dunne vs Walter was an excellent way to bring the fans back down after two rapid fire matches with their old school, methodical approach to building a match. Walter's avalanche Sleeper Suplex was absolutely SICK. Pete Dunne reminds me of Jerry Lynn if he was trapped in Tazz's body.
If there was a weak spot on this show, it was the women's match. Not that it was bad by any stretch, it just felt a little rushed. I get that the main event was going to be super long, but this match felt like it really needed five more minutes. That being said, the Sky Pirates had some cool spots together (Sane's spike DDT on Shirai looked awesome), and Bianca Belair getting both of them up for a KOD was absolutely amazing.
Main event was superb, even though I think Adam Cole is lame. I haven't seen a more natural babyface than Gargano in years...that guy just knows how to take a beating and get the crowd on his side. It seemed like the crowd was split between Cole and Gargano in the beginning but by then end absolutely everyone was cheering Gargano to win. Johnny took a huge beating, but always managed to find a way to kick out. This was the MOTN IMO, but the opener was a very close second.
The show overall was phenomenal, not a bad match in sight. NJPW/ROH G1 Supercard: The Honor battle royal was cool for some of the entrants (Suzuki, Cabana, Liger, Haku, Muta!!) but the actual match didn't really do much for me. It was a pretty basic BR match without any really cool spots of eliminations that lingered in the mind after.
It seemed like the crowd was not mic'd properly, you only ever heard the crowd if they popped really big for something. Most of the night they seemed very quiet.
The first 3 or 4 matches of the main show were just kinda there. Nothing bad, but nothing that really grabbed my attention. I was particularly disappointed in Will Ospreay's match. I've heard nothing but good things about the guy but this was my first time seeing him, and I wasn't impressed.
The Junior triple threat match was very good while it lasted. Giving these 3 guys less than 10 minutes, while Bully Ray got almost 20 minutes, was borderline criminal.
The Tag Title match was a mess, only notable for PCO getting powerbombed to the floor from the ring in a nasty spot, and for Enzo and Cass jumping the rail at the end and fighting security guards.
Unpopular opinion alert: Zack Sabre Jr is another guy I've heard tons of praise for but never seen live until this show. His look was 100% "scrawny and generic" indy guy, and I thought a lot of his shit was sloppy, but his submissions were pretty good. Tanahashi got robbed here, he's a legend who deserved better....I get that he's slowed down a step, but if he was determined to put over a younger guy surely someone more worthy could've been found than ZSJ.
The final 3 matches were obviously the big draw for this event, and they were given the most time. Ibushi vs Naito was classic highflying babyface vs opportunistic heel stuff. The Apron rana to the floor, the deadlift German spot, Ibushi kicking out of the Destino after being dropped on his head like a dozen times, a sick Kamigoye...all great stuff. Best match of the night so far.
The ladder match was a total car wreck...a violent ladder match with not much in the way of real innovation, except maybe the gourdbuster onto the x shaped ladders. Still, the superplex, ladder powerbomb and elbow thru the table spots were pretty brutal and the finish with Lethal falling from the huge purple ladder was painful looking.
Okada vs White was a solid if unspectacular main event match. These two had it tough, as Jay White absolutely screams "transitional champion" so there was little doubt in my mind as to the outcome...but both guys worked hard, Gedo at ringside added some flavor, and the last few minutes had some excellent drama.
Overall, the last 3 matches were great, the rest of the show was very forgettable stuff. MOTN was Ibushi vs Naito for me. WM thoughts tomorrow.

Wrestlemania 35: The prehow was a waste of time. Two battle royals that meant nothing and two throwaway matches that no one cared about.
The main show started with a bang, Seth getting a quick win over Brock was probably the best thing they could've done. It got a nice pop, but the match itself was nothing. Just a long beatdown, a nutshot and 3 curb stomps. Styles vs Orton was pretty much a standard RAW match that got a few extra minutes...decent but nothing to write home about. Miz vs Shane was crap, filled with tons of stalling. The only bits worthy of mention were Miz battering Shane all over the international announcers tables, and the final bump, which looked nice but was obviously VEEEERY safe.
The two tag fatal 4 ways were decent spotfests, though I can't say I'm too excited about either winner. I guess the Usos were being rewarded for re-signing but the IIconics act seems pretty amateurish to me. Maybe having babyfaces chase them will make them more interesting.
Kofi vs Bryan was great stuff...the stuff pro wrestling is made for. A dastardly heel, a sympathetic babyface, and an invested crowd all added up to pure magic. Kofi stole the show, but Bryan deserves kudos for making Kofi look like a million bucks before doing the job. This was clearly the MOTN, and the fans poured so much into this, they were pretty much dead for the rest of the night.
Joe vs Rey and Roman vs Drew were both short and instantly forgettable, neither one of these matches needed to be on the card.
Speaking of "didn't need to be on the card", HHH vs Batista was a slow, plodding mess. Did ANYONE want to see these two slug it out for almost 25 minutes? The fans in attendance sure didn't as you could have heard a pin drop for most of it. If they were gonna do this, it should've been a 10 minute sprint of ultraviolence, not a lengthy brawl with a couple of good spots near the end.
Angle vs Corbin and Demon Finn vs Lashley both fell into the "fans don't care, they just want to get to the main event" category. Angle is clearly a class act, wanting to go out on his back and give an up and comer the rub, but absolutely NO ONE wanted to see Kurt losing clean to Corbin, especially when Cena was doing nothing but fucking around with Elias (in a dumb but admittedly fun throwback segment). Finn squashed Lashley but no one cared.
The main event was an excellent (though sloppy in spots) match, but unfortunately by the time it came on, the crowd was completely wiped out....you could see the frustration on Charlotte especially that the spots clearly weren't getting the big crowd reactions they were hoping for. I'm glad the WWE spaced out the 3 title matches enough so that all 3 babyfaces winning was possible....but I wonder about the main event finish. Not sure if the end was a botch or if they're intentionally doing the "Ronda was never actually pinned" story line heading into Backlash (which might not be a terrible idea, as the fans really wanted to see Ronda vs Becky one on one anyways)...but it was weird to see a wonky finish to the Mania main event.
Bryan vs Kofi was MOTN, but the women's triple threat was good entertainment, as were the two tag team four ways. The rest of it was largely forgettable filler. Honestly, they could've cut out everything between Kofi's match and the main event, and the show would've been much better for it. Overall the weekend of Wrestling overload had it's definite ups and downs but we had some gems in there. All of NXT Takeover was excellent, the last 3 matches of the NJPW Supercard are worth tracking down (especially Ibushi vs Naito), and Kofi vs Bryan and Becky vs Charlotte vs Ronda delivered quality action and drama. Next year Vince, keep 'mania under 4 hours, or you could have Jesus Christ himself fighting Stone Cold Steve Austin in the main event and no one will last long enough to care about it.

On WrestleMania 35 Really liked the tag match for the SD titles and, oddly enough, the Falls Count Anywhere match between Miz and Shane.
The actual match between Bryan Kofi was pretty solid but holy hell did the commentators ruin "the magic" with their incessant, insincere "emotions." You're not Jim Ross or Joey Styles so STFU and let the ACTION tell the story. Glad Kofi won though. Should be a fun (if predictably brief) run.
The Balor/Lashley match was nothing special except that they FINALLY made the Demon do something different from regular Balor by powerbombing the much larger Bobby Lashley. Looked good and made sense for the "super mode" of Balor. They should do that more regularly when the Demon thing happens.
Rollins beating Lesnar was necessary and welcome. Although I'm apparently oneofthe few who likes Lesnar's work, it was WELL overdue for him to drop it. Rollins is an uninteresting character but a freak of an athlete so I don't mind him having the belt again. As for the how of it, well, what else could they do to stop JuggerBrock?
I'm glad Becky Lynch got the payoff of a SUPER hot feud that fizzled a lot at the end. The match was WAY overbooked and obviously took them out of their comfort zones but they still executed well for the most part, audibly called spots or not.
I really, really hope they don't keep on with these 5-plus hour shows. Even watching it over two days is tedious. Maybe that's just me though [\spoiler]

I feel like Bray can make this gimmick work but also WWE could also make it unbearable

Thank you WWE for continuing to validate my decision in not watching you (outside of the odd NXT Takeover).

The KO turn happened too soon but I am a sucker for KO. But I've also been reading recaps and watching a very few clips for a couple years now so the overall product is poor Edit: learned how and added the spoiler
