My comment on Roman Reigns:

At least we have a champion who will actually defend on a regular basis. I have to give him credit for that. He's a decent wrestler who will give his all despite the fact that he's shoved down our throats.

Roman is just under bad booking for a long time. Fine in the ring. I liked his AJ Styles matches because he actually got to wrestle as the big guy and did some of his actual moves and just running strikes. Dat Splash Mountain Bomb.
A Universal Open challenge would be welcome. All shapes and sizes of opponents. I think that SHIELD match would have helped the booes a little bit but then he got sick and Kurt Angle took the spot. Bad luck there again.

I hated the finisher spamfest at the beginning, but the match wasn't bad until they attacked Braun. And the chair, Lesnar, why did you have to move it then not kick out??

You might have read my topic where I was planning to boil SummerSlam down to 5 matches so I can watch it before work. Here's my thoughts: Lynch v Charlotte v Carmella
I was hoping for Lynch to win. It was a nice match with a little too much mid match chatter, which WWE seems to be high on lately. I don't see the logic in turning Lynch heel when WWE struggle to build organic babyfaces like her but at least the belt is off Carmella and Lynch stays in the conversation.
Bryan v Miz / Joe v Styles
I've lumped these together as my thoughts apply to both. Good matches that fell slightly below expectations. Fans weren't exactly on fire either. It doesn't help when they have been in the arena three hours already but I think the main fault is that WWE fans have been conditioned that first meetings in big matches will end in an unsatisfying manner to prolong the fued. Wouldn't it be better for rematches to happen after a hard fought battle that the fans demand to see again?
Rousey v Bliss
This was bad. Rousey is a star in the making but more mid-match chatter "Are you ready?" she telegraphs, before hitting a move, made her offense look clunky. Maybe it was designed that way to hide her lack of smoothness. An unconvincing squash if you can believe such a thing.
Reigns v Lesnar
I was expecting the crowd to shit on this so they let me down in that regard. It was smart to dangle Strowman to add interest but he looked stupid to declare his challenge face to face because he's not a coward - but will only cash in after the match when both men are broken. Hilariously, WWE worked the fans and then didn't even give them the cash in pay off. What a flat and bizarre way to end the show.

This sums up my thoughts as well. I really liked both matches, but when so many WWE matches end with bullshit finishes, even when you do it at the right time it feels flat. You can absolutely use a clean finish to push a feud forward, and in both cases having the heels win would have set the stage for a very intriguing rematch, either next month or down the line. As for the main event... Pretty obvious they were trying everything possible to not have the fans shit on the match, and it mostly worked. The Braun thing was silly if you thought about it too much, but it did do what they wanted it to do. I actually don't mind Roman. I would like him 1000% more if they just turned him heel- which would have made him way over by now- but whatever, at least now we can move on and have a champion that is actually in the building more than 12 times a year.

And the chair, Lesnar, why did you have to move it then not kick out?? For real! If he'd left the chair over his face for the pinfall - like a second-and-a-half longer - that could very well have been a majorly iconic moment. If you freeze frame it before he moves the chair off of himself it's a pretty amazing looking picture, Roman yanking back on the leg, Brock splattered on the mat with the chair over his face... But no, he had to move the chair while very curiously not making any effort whatsoever to kick out. To me, that alone ruined anything that might've been good about that match. I hope I never see another Brock Lesnar match in my life, at least in a pro-wrestling setting.

I only caught everything from Styles/Joe on so I can't speak to the rest of the show but that match, Bryan/Miz, and Nakamura/Hardy were pretty enjoyable. Rousey/Bliss wasn't good but what do you expect from a greenhorn (albeit a talented one) and a very limited worker? (the latter of which has dominated the title scene for the past two yeas >_>) The thing that pissed me off about the main event wasn't the result so much as the blatant "fuck you" from WWE brass by doing what they did before the match. They basically said "we know you want THIS but AHAHAHA, YOU'RE GETTING WHAT WE WANT YOU TO GET DAMMIT, SO BEND OVER AND TAKE IT!"
I hope they lose a ton of subscribers over that BS.
About my thought on it. If they just went ahead and ran the match as it was without throwing Braun out there, the match would have been what it was, without the blatant middle finger in the face of the fans. Have Braun call Roman out tonight on Raw, and set the table for the feud going forward instead of teasing him and not delivering. WWE's happy to dangle Chekhov's Gun in front of us without letting it discharge, and at this point, I think Vince delights in doing just that. All in all, from what I saw of SS(from Styles/Joe forward) felt like a regular PPV rather than a big event. Feuds seemed to progress more than culminate. Styles vs Joe was very good, and the exception to the usual copout feel of a DQ finish. Nakamura vs Hardy was fun, and I was glad that Demon Balor actually felt like it brought something out of Finn, rather than him just going through the usual spots with paint on. I don't care for Miz, and really didn't care much for Bryan's match with him, but I suppose that was ok if you're into his stuff. Ronda did what she was going to do, nothing more, nothing less. Just not on the level overall of what WWE's second ranked PPV should come off as, far as I'm concerned. Give me Triplemania or Takeover any day over that.

Twitter is slightly buzzing at the idea that Nia Jax is now dating.....Luke Gallows. Here's a picture of him from the first date.

Finn vs. Roman on Raw was better than anything on Summerslam (SS/Raw spoilers if you haven't seen them) The only disappointing part was post-match. I get that they need to keep Roman with the Shield so the fans will actually cheer him, but did we really need ANOTHER Braun tease only for him to catch a beatdown from the Shield?

Luke just announced the couple's breakup, a mere 1 day after telling everyone of their relationship. (In all likelihood, Luke was just joking/being facetious/being sarcastic/whatever you want to call it, with the whole maybe-fictional relationship and breakup with Nia. Anyway, no harm no foul, that was marginally fun while it lasted.)

I like to think that according to my photo, he was only wearing the bowtie on his first date with her.

Nicole Matthews in a WWE ring! Portia Perez would be so proud if she were still with us.

And now there's stuff going around that Matthews might be banned from US competition for 5 years because she apparently had the wrong visa when taping the MYC stuff.
I really hope it's just some awful misinformation.

So apparently Roman Reigns is taking a leave of absence to deal with leukemia, something that he apparently had and overcame once before 11 years ago. In announcing this, he broke character (using his real given name) and vowed that he'd be back to reclaim the title that he was relinquishing.
Not really on the list of things that I imagined hearing from WWE programming but cancer sure as hell doesn't discriminate. I wish him the best in beating it a second time.
