Generally a simmer.
Not that I haven't played the game. Put time in playing SFPWXP, and the GBA games. Even played the mission mode in World and will more than likely play the story mode.
Like DB and Denizen though, when you get into forging a lot of fantasy edits, you just kind of want to sit back and let them play out for themselves.

This sums it up for me. Import KoC2 back in the day and played it religiously. At one point I import FPR and I guess from this point on I mainly simmed matches and it is so much fun.

50/50 here, it can be hard to keep up motivation to play when you're just working unstructured exhibition matches over and over again. Also, the lack of a functioning online mode makes it impossible to play with others; it's gotten so bad that the matchmaking channel on the Discord was deleted due to lack of activity.

Play! Honestly I get kinda annoyed when I see people say “people mainly sim” or whatever. Sure I’ll sim matches after making an Edit to check the CPU Logic and I love running tournaments but to me the funnest part is playing the matches.

I only ever play the game, I never sim. I just love to try to work with the AI and put on the best, most entertaining match I possibly can, as if I were a real wrestler working a match. I even work matches in the WWE 2K series. This kind of roleplaying is what makes wrestling games fun to me. While I do understand the appeal of simming and I get why people find it enjoyable and even preferable to playing, I personally don't like spectating. I like roleplaying and putting myself in the shoes of a wrestler.

Recently I've found the easiest way to get the results I want is by playing as whoever I have booked to lose the match.
That's damn near the only way to create a decent squash match

Not yet, but once they release enough gameplay videos we can.

Oh boy, if a UFC game can entertain you, then FPW will be a big treat. The AI is head and shoulders above anything of it's kind. I used to play in Returns since I played every wrestling game at that time, I would usually do my best to work a match against the computer. My problem was after building a great match, the AI would do something dumb and kill the finish to ruin the whole thing. And as I got older, I had less time to invest in getting good at playing and I enjoy being able to multitask. With Fire Pro, the gameplay to me is creating a character that would wrestle how I would play, and watching them perform. Some matches are as good or better than anything I could work myself, and I have the element of surprise as a viewer. There's something extremely satisfying about seeing your creations come to life and actually show personality and fighting spirit, there's just no game like it.

I hate even having to sim when I make guys. That's why I don't make edits. That and time. And probably quality. And simming. Definitely simming.

i play about 85% of the time. sim just a bit to get results and see how my edits match up against each other.

I mostly play matches but there've been points where all I want to do is sim random, wacky stuff.

I actually prefer playing, but since there really is no one around to play with I have to sim more than a play. With Returns I was able to master level 10 difficulty so when I did play I would have to work matches. I'll play until I master the 10 difficulty, then if there's no way to increase the difficulty I will probably be back to simming and working matches. I'll give online a try as well and see if it works well enough to make use of with friends. when you dominate level 10 then raise the speed to 125. you will have to drop the difficulty as you readjust to the speed timing. if you master level 10 again at 125 then drop the speed back down to 100. rinse repeat. the speed adjustments will be a total game changer to keep the game challenge going.

Isn't there a mod option to remove the grapple animation entirely? Like, so grappling moves seem to just come out of nowhere. It's meant for simming, of course, but if you're looking for a way to throw your timing off so you don't win every time, I bet that would help. I'd imagine even lower levels would be challenging if you couldn't see the grapple motion. I think it's in Carlzilla's regular mod suite.

No tie-up doesn't work if any edit is player controlled, this includes controlling a second. So, it's not possible to play with it. Best way to vary up the timing is to alter the game speed; even the jump from 100 to 125 makes a huge difference with regards to timing as it becomes muscle memory after a while. Alternatively, you can force yourself to grapple instead of focusing on strikes as the game becomes trivial when you just circle and strike the AI at any level.
