Celtics has such a bad ass team (god damn, that was a DURTY Pistons team, Lambeer was such a bastard, then there was also that young upstart Dennis Rodman...)! Funny you were looking for a game for the Chief, I was thinking Kevin McHale needed a game! That guy should be a secret character in mortal Kombat! Check out the LARIATOOOH! (My god, Rambis looks like an extra from the Dallas Buyers Club! Thank god the shorts have gotten longer these days!) m.youtube.com/watch?v=X7r6vXeOfyQ

Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball remains the most bizarre sports game I played but one of my favorite gaming memories from the SNES era. The final team was basically ALL robotic Laimbeer's and could score from anywhere. Still can't believe I beat that team. I actually remember the tension of the game I finally won against them to finish the game. It was right up there with the first time I beat Great Puma in Pro Wrestling.
Even in the 90's, the 2000-2020 era felt so far off and futuristic. Now that we're in years actually surpassing games that had naming from the future, it's really weird. I also feel like the "Futurism" vibe has died off a little due to cynicism/outright fear. There aren't as many games now that have titles in the future as there were 20 years ago. I'm guessing the scifi genre probably has about the same but I don't see it as much in other TV/movie genres or in games.
There are people recently born that will live to see the 2099 year too so all those Marvel future eras (like Spiderman 2099) will actually be realized. By then I'll likely have my consciousness implanted into a Hedonism Bot 🍇

Yeah, 2020 still sounds like it should be in the distant future and not six months. Yeah, I wanted to see what all the hype around Neon Genesis Evangelion was all about and started watching a bit of episode 1 season 1. It was set off in the far flung future, 2015 to be exact. Did you know that there’ll be hovering, propellerless gunships by then but that people will revert to payphone use? At least Bill Lambeer, his ugly plastic face mask, and his team of robot ballers will be there to help if shit goes sideways! Earlier I was talking to a colleague about that Ahnold movie The Sixth Day, which was also set in the far-flung future of 2015. Must've been an alternate 2015 though, because it has an XFL game (with expansion teams!) in the opening scene.

Oh, and speaking of old sports games, the discussion here and something I read on another forum inspired me to check out the Ken Griffey Jr games.
So far I've only loaded the first SNES game and I haven't even actually played it yet because I'm having too much fun playing "spot the celebrity" with the mostly unlicensed rosters. It's reminding me of the Genesis version of Double Dribble.
The game may let you change everyone's names but the assortment of musicians, writers, actors, politicians, and whatever else it has by default is interesting enough.
I marked out over the old school punk rockers on the Dodgers like J.Biafra, E.Cervenka and H.Rollins.

So, out of curiosity, how many of you FINISH video games you play? My neighbour is a MACHINE, he has 98 platinums, he just started Fallout 4 on June 6th and Platinumed the bitch on the 24th! I think the last game I actually finished and platinumed was Spider-Man and I am still only at 62% (don’t have the dlc). The dude works in the game industry and has a full time job as an engineer, takes care of his home, has a social life including a wife and all that, I don’t know how he does it!
I have a backlog to get through, and my time is so much more limited these days so I find finishing games, and more so now even starting a new game is getting tougher. Do any of you make it through the slog these days?

I don't even remember the last game I finished unless you count KOF XIV. I played through story mode for the first time last week and beat the final boss. But he wasn't even that hard! I'd count beating one of the old school SNK bosses as finishing the game (and often my patience) but it feels weird saying that I just spent like 15 minutes doing combos I memorized from past games to "finish" a game I played for the first time. Like it wasn't really finishing KOF XIV as much as it was continuing to play the next chapter of KOF.
Most of the time I play Fire Pro, sports games, and other games that I don't really classify as finishable.
(If you win at EVO, okay yeah, you finished the game and all your opponents, LOL 😁 )
Otherwise, the last single player game I finished was Sleeping Dogs in like 2011-2012. I finished Red Dead a year before that. Red Dead was actually the first Rockstar game I ever finished. I'm still playing through 2 at a snails pace but back to a consistent one as of last month. I hope to finish it by the end of the summer.
Ever since finishing Sleeping Dogs, I played a bunch of 1P games that I never finished like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Bioshock: Infinite. I liked them both but just never felt the urge to continue to the end.

Yeah, spider man took me a while to finish, and Skyrim, which I’m not sure is bigger or smaller than fallout 4, took me a year of puttering to finish, so I don’t know how my neighbour blew through the game so fast. I asked him if he actually enjoyed the game and he admitted that no, he didn’t care for it. Strange.
Crazy that you were able to blow through KoF XIV with old muscle memory! I’m always surprised at how much stuff my hands remember in Tekken, especially since I don’t play fighting games as much any more (the passes and dlc characters killed that vibe for me). KoF XIV needed Mr Karate, his exclusion was a bummer for me.
Rocket League sucks a horrific amount of the limited time I have for gaming away, especially now with the summer blockbuster event (old 80’s movies shit for your soccer car, including a COBRA KAI decal, a Miyagi Do headband, ET moon silhouette wheels, ghostbusters shit (stay puft goal explosion is crazy!), goonies sloth hat, and marty’s Hover board and hat.). They’re quick fix matches, usually fun, and as shifty as the online community for that game can be, it’s still a bit of fun. I want to delete that bitch though so that I can play some backlog shit!.

I asked him if he actually enjoyed the game and he admitted that no, he didn’t care for it. Strange. That is really strange. I don't really understand people finishing a full game and not liking it at all. I get the "wanting to get value from your purchase" angle but I'd much rather return a game even if I don't get full money back just so I could spend that time better on something I like more...even a game I already have. If Spiderman hadn't come out at the same time as Red Dead, I definitely would have played that. I think that will be on my list of games to play after Red Dead, especially since I'm still on the post-Avengers Marvel high! It looks like a great game too. I never played Skyrim or Fallout 4 but I've heard people tell me that I'd probably get completely sucked into Skyrim with no chance at returning so ... that's a hard maybe 😁 Crazy that you were able to blow through KoF XIV with old muscle memory! I’m always surprised at how much stuff my hands remember in Tekken, especially since I don’t play fighting games as much any more (the passes and dlc characters killed that vibe for me). KoF XIV needed Mr Karate, his exclusion was a bummer for me. I'm hoping that we still have DLC coming for KOF XIV but a third round may be overly optimistic! Have you played KOF 2002: Unlimited Match? It's still my favorite KOF of all time (and, admittedly, KOF XIV is climbing the ranks right now). It also has TWO versions of Takuma Sakazaki. It doesn't have his Mr. Karate outfit but Takuma is pretty awesome in both versions. I especially like his counters. Since I play 2002: UM pretty regularly and XIV has a lot of engine similarities (particularly the way to transition into the "V Trigger" like mode) it was pretty easy to jump right into it and clean house. The two bosses are significantly easier than previous KOF games as well, especially the variety of bosses 2002: UM has (since it covers the entire NESTS saga and has all the bosses, including Rugal and Nightmare Geese). And the CPU level in XIV is about consistent with previous games. Plus, Geese is a default so I smoked dem fools 😁🚬 Rocket League sucks a horrific amount of the limited time I have for gaming away, especially now with the summer blockbuster event (old 80’s movies shit for your soccer car, including a COBRA KAI decal, a Miyagi Do headband, ET moon silhouette wheels, ghostbusters shit (stay puft goal explosion is crazy!), goonies sloth hat, and marty’s Hover board and hat.). Damn it, I wish more games had Cobra Kai branding!!!!!!! I'd go nuts for a Cobra Kai Fire Pro DLC pack! I love the items from Ghostbusters, Goonies, and Back to the Future too!! 🚗⏲

I work at a Circle K so of course I love it when people come in and whine at us basically for not being 7/11.

I've thought of that quote a lot in my time there. I even wrote it on a whiteboard we used to have once. One of my coworkers didn't get it.

Agreed. Thankfully (for other reasons) I don't work with them anymore.
