So, I learned some trivia today.
I'd heard the following song countless times before but I never realized that Starship was the group that made it
That isn't anything noteworthy in and of itself but the female voice in the above duet is Grace Slick who first made it big in the mid 60s with Jefferson Airplane (which turned into Jefferson Starship in the early 70s and then offshot into the group Starship in the mid 80s). Anyhow, I just never knew that she was still making hits over 20 years into her career. In fact, the above song hit #1 in 1987, 21 years after the first top 10 hit of her career, Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love" from 1966. Just kind of amazing to me that one of the pioneering women had Billboard Top 10s in 3 successive decades. Compared to the tragically brief career of Bay Area contemporary Janis Joplin and the dynamic decade or so runs of later acts such as Heart, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, her career longevity and success during it was somewhat unique. The fact that the above came when she was 48 years old also stands out a bit.

It's nice when nothing happens after expecting something bad.

I love the expression on the guy in blue here. It's like... *record scratch* *freeze frame* "Yup, that's me. You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation. "

Until he expresses an unpopular political view or says something stupid on social media. 🦨

I love how Rex pulled the "did you assume gender?" when the NY Times writer referred to the cat as "her.". Way to take the piss out of that pompus New York times Lefty windbag.

I knew as soon as this subject came up that it was only a matter of time before you said something about it. Lo and behold.

I knew as soon as this subject came up that it was only a matter of time before you said something about it. Lo and behold. I could respond a bit sarcastically, but that won't do anyone any favors. However, I won't let your bitter snarkiness intimidate me from speaking the truth because that's how the far left bullies win.
I'll just say this.
When a person on the left side of the spectrum like Bill Maher is sounding the alarm about how ridiculous cancel culture is, when the President of France is calling out a warning about the poison of American woke culture, and when talented people like Gina Carano are lied about and have their jobs taken away, yeah, I'll say something.
It's called free speech.
By the way, since free speech extends both ways, I would be very interested to hear what you think of President Biden still not having a press conference, the US dropping bombs on Syria and the fact that the child detention centers are open at 100% capacity.
Remember when those photos came out in Trump's administration, everyone got mad at Trump but then it was revealed the photos of children in cages were from Obama's administration?
Edit:
By the way, remember when I said that religious liberty could be taken away and you said it would never happen and you got pissy with me?
Well, the Equality Act is the EXACT type of legislation that would lead to persecution of the church because while not outright banning Christianity, it would label any preaching of any Biblical, but unpopular opinion as "hate speech." Which is what I said would happen. We'll see if it passes, it may not...but if it does...then what I said will came to pass.

I mostly meant that I wasn't surprised to see an outspoken conservative use this to knock the left again. To be fair I don't know the political leanings of most of the people here.
On the other hand, some recent events had me thinking about at least doing a better job of explaining where I was coming from on a personal level in an attempt to be fair. Apparently I can't do that, though, so maybe there was some pettiness involved.
Still, since you asked...
Biden is a moderate. Have you ever looked at his track record? Seriously, I don't know how anyone thought he was a radical even if our Overton window has gotten skewed to the right.
Am I disappointed? Yes. Surprised? No.
Sometimes the left does go to an opposite extreme (look at Tumblr) but the right engages in cancel culture too. Ask Colin Kaepernick. Hell, a bunch of right-wingers tried to "cancel" people in the Capitol in January. And yes, they were right-wingers.
I still don't get the persecution complex and clearly I never will. Even if this Equality Act thing does pass, people will still find ways around it.
But, you're right. It is free speech and I have as much of it as you do. Unless the moderators tell us to squash it, of course.
Now, that having been said, I would rather drop it and move on.

Why can't you explain yourself on a personal level? I can disagree with somebody and still treat them with dignity and respect. I am sure that are things that we would find common ground on if we conversed enough. The media has done a lot of harm to create an "us vs them" mentality. I will admit that I fall into it and have to pull myself out. However, what I will not stand for is petty, insulting comments. I will not make them at you, so do not launch them at me.
For Biden's track record, he did support segregation, and I have seen old video of him mocking Indians (actual people from India) by using the accent and saying they all owned 7-11s. Now, I am well aware people on both sides of the aisle did support segregation and there were people on both sides that opposed it. However I find it hypocritical that the most vocal of the Left will try to cancel Dr. Seuss, cancel Speedy Gonzalez and try to censor stuff like Peter Pan, Dumbo and other old movies when President Biden is untouched.
I also know about the Crime Bill, and I find it funny how during the Democrat Presidential Bid, VP Kamala was all over Joe for sexual harassment, and now not a word from her other than "it's just politics."
President Biden was once again under Obama, so everything with Obama's admin with bombings and children locked up in detention cages is part of his record as he was VP.
Also, as recent events in Nevada have shown, as well as CA...Socialists are invading the Democrats and pushing the party to the far Left.
As for Colin, what is it that most reasonable people took umbrage with? Was it that he was protesting? For many people it wasn't what he was protesting, it was disrespecting the flag to do it. When I am work, I do not pull my Bible and start preaching. I am at my workplace to do the job I was paid to do. Colin was an athlete, and instead of doing his job on the field, he used his job to preach his personal politics and disrespect the Flag. The Pledge of Allegiance is not just a bunch of words. It's important to have civic pride and duty. It doesn't mean one has to think everything is perfect, but I would rather live in the US than Saudi Arabia any day. I only became a citizen in 2020 but when I took that oath of loyalty, I took it with a sober mind and in a spirit of solemnity. The American Flag is now my flag. I have three flags hanging at my home: at the center is the US Flag, on the left is a flag for the Canadian Province I am originally from and on the right is the Canadian flag. He could have used other outlets in which to protest. However, he insulted the Flag of our great nation.
Also with Colin, he wasn't that good. His overall completion rate was 59.8%. That rate in 2020 would land him in 33rd place for QB completion. While he contends the NFL was racist, and that hindered his career, the reality is that his skills weren't all that great for the NFL. It happens, Tebow was good in college, not great as a pro.
It isn't just Tumblr, most main media platforms are Leftist. Twitter for example is a cesspool of SJW and woke nonsense.
What I find interesting is that everyone tried to tie Parler to the events of Jan 6. Parler, Parler, Parler, so Parler was cancelled. Yet at the second impeachment trial most of the social media posts cited were from Facebook and not Parler. I'm just throwin that out there.
The sad thing is that most people are moderate, that's the truth, most are moderate. Even I as a person with conservative views on a lot of things do also go center depending on the topic. However, because of media outlets (not just Left, pretty much all of them) , the "us vs them mentality is shoved and trying to force people into a hole.
As for what you call a persecution complex, are you aware that a CBS affiliate tried linking all of QAnon to white Evangelicals? It's painting in these broad strokes that leads to demonization of both sides.
Also, I will say this, when I heard about Trump's golden statue being unveiled, I just about spit out my Coke because that's lunacy. Then when I heard that Coke said "be less white" I stopped buying Coke so now I'll spit out Pepsi when someone goes nuts.
As for the mods, they shouldn't squash anything because as long as we stay away from insult and petty cheap shots, we can disagree with civility.
As I said my piece, you are free to agree or disagree, just don't get petty; and if we disagree, then simply we disagree. As always, I wish no one any malice or ill will so I hope you are able to enjoy your day and weekend even though the blasted "spring forward" means less sleep. Still, when I worked overnights in security, it did mean a shorter shift.

I remember a time when it didn't matter what side you were on, we could all agree that the government was screwing us over and they should have less power. Now one side seems to think more government is better. Some believe that more and higher taxes is a good thing. Us being on "sides" and fighting with those who have different views is exactly what our leaders want. It keeps us from banding together and going after them.

Us being on "sides" and fighting with those who have different views is exactly what our leaders want. It keeps us from banding together and going after them. Definite truth to that. I was plenty pissed at Mitch McConnell when he rejected $2,000 stimulus checks and both the Dems and Republicans got together and slapped Americans and spit on them with $600 checks.
