It's gotten to the point where I am actively hoping this person keeps calling off because it's a lot easier and faster for me to handle things directly. As it is there's stuff I wish I had known about Tuesday so that maybe Wednesday would have had slightly less crap to fix.

After certain events yesterday, I was notably more leery about the protesters that were outside today
It's not unusual for them to gather in front of the building but after.... that....it made me think more about worst case scenarios
Thankfully, it was a very small, peaceful protest that only lasted a couple of hours (as planned)

I ranted...wrong thread...I moved it to Catch All...
So to be relevant...first job I had was in a fried chicken place...that was fun...working overnight on Saturday night...small town, normally everything shut down...but the bars would be open till 2 or 3 am...so the chicken place stayed open...and every Saturday night...bunch of drunks coming in wanting fried chicken.
Best part...I think I mentioned this before...but I'm Canadian (now in the US with US Citizenship)...but what I didn't mention...
I'm...Newfie (no accent though)...so a bunch of drunk Newfies (with down by the bay accents) wanting friend chicken at 3 am on Sunday morning after drinking all night Saturday.
Fun. Times.

As much as I'd like to wave bye bye at a particular person they will probably try to drag it out as long as the higher ups are willing to foot the bill.
More pressing, somebody I thought was at least somewhat reliable did something dumb and potentially very costly last month. Especially in light of some iffy behavior.

I'm not sure "All right then; you're covering graveyard now" is what this person wanted to hear but it seems to have settled the matter.
I'm also going to say it must be an amazing coincidence that not having to deal with their former boss has improved the mood of the other two.
That said some other stuff from last week seems to have boiled over. A quote of the day turned into some not very subtle jabs.
Similarly I'm not sure what to think of somebody being taught some stuff that is usually more "OK, you have a lot more tools now so let me show you this." I learned it fairly quick which might be why our boss isn't quite as reserved. The other person can do it but generally tries to avoid getting it done or otherwise make it into some giant undertaking that conveniently means they didn't get around to XYZ. On that note I kind of want G and the others to learn the other spreadsheet as it's usually quick and easy but would kill another excuse. Or at least empower them to have their own "yeah I updated and saved it a half hour ago; didn't you send it?"

Damn, ten minutes before the end of the shift yesterday the plant emergency alarm went off. Didn't find out until this morning a brand new hire only on the job a few days got pretty mangled by a forklift. By noon the unconfirmed rumor was going around the guy had to have a leg amputated today. Talked to one of our emergency response guys who was one of the first on the scene when the alarm went and he said he knew right away the leg was probably fucked by how bad things looked. Guy not only got hit by the forklift but his leg got pulled into the wheel well and literally wrapped around it which would have shattered every bone. Said there were bone splinters ripping right through the work boot. Second really bad accident we've had in the last year.

Very disappointing all around. As it is I didn't hear anything about yesterday's meeting which was supposed to be something of a big deal.
Somebody I thought would be an obvious promotion in their area is looking elsewhere. Pretty much said he'd take less pay to deal with less crap.
Another person I thought was starting to lighten up is simply happy to get attention from some of the iffier customers again. And while their current position gives them more leeway to deal with anyone that crosses the line, it's just more potential drama they don't need.

A couple things went through and neither seems likely to change much. Of course if they hadn't soured things with other people they wouldn't have needed me to help either. And if any of the transfers go through that leaves an even bigger mess.

I think I need a vacation or something. I keep having dreams about work. Not even nightmares or anything. Just mundane stuff, though some of the things I'm being asked are certainly unlike anything I've actually seen. A guy wanting to buy a bunch of our cappuccino mix, for example.
I've heard of giving away free labor but this is ridiculous.

Two situations in two days. If either had just kept it at gripes it would have been a minor footnote.
Then I get home tired from covering and wake up to some messages that weren't all that surprising but still in the "what the fuck is their problem?" category.

So if this latest bit is true, we're way past a double standard. I really don't want anything bad to happen with this person but I won't be surprised if trouble finds them if they keep acting this way.

Two of my biggest allies are going to be out for several days. First is due to expecting another baby and I'll be able to fill in. The other is having surgery, and while it doesn't appear to be risky health wise, it might not help them enough to continue their current duties. And while they've expressed that I would do well at their role that would be a really shit way for an opening to happen. Derpy seemed nervous but I don't know if that leans more towards leaving or being stuck. Again, it's become a given that they will find some sort of issue pop up. I heard two others were continuing to make noise about a change of scenery but nothing seems strong. Oddly enough several have asked about the opening we have.
On that note, there's at least two trying to get in to the food area. One supposedly has been stuck in process for a while. the other claims they are going to be ready any day now but I think the screening might pull up some red flags, and they and their relatives have a bad habit of jumping the gun and have already burned bridges with some of the local stores etc.
Somebody else got some comments from a guest that had been drinking. It didn't seem to escalate but they weren't really receptive when I asked if things were okay. |
