Now that a certain matter is "official" this year seems to be ending as anticlimactic as it began. The problem child certainly did their best to try and screw it up. Everything else was pretty much "don't take this for granted"

We're losing people left and right on my crew.
One guy out for the rest of the year having his prostate cancer removed. Had the surgery and heard he is doing well though.
Our shop lead hand destroyed himself at home building a staircase. Hadn't secured the stairs and the staircase actually gave out from under him while he was at the top. 8 broken ribs, 6 broken in two places, broken collar bone, broken shoulder which may need additional surgery and 20 staples in his head. So he's done for the rest of the year at least, and when he comes back he may not even be able to work in our shop due to his injuries.
Another bad accident at work, another emergency airlift to the hospital. Machine guy was working on blew up in his face as it was running on air pressure. Not sure why the pressure wasn't off. Pretty serious damage, when the paramedics moved him out they covered up his head so people wouldn't see, but our in-house first responders told me it was bad and the guy even had one of his eyes out. He's only in stable condition now and it's too soon to even worry about whether or not he will even be back.
Makes me glad that the shop I work in is one of the safer ones in the plant. Although just recently one of the newer modified machines nearly took someone out, but that was a result of operator error and not the machine. Only thing that saved the guy from some severe discipline was that the proper instructions had yet to be written out in the company work method and he could have fought any disciplinary action and he probably would have as he's been there over 20 years.
September 10th is my 12 year anniversary and I just keep thinking, 18 more years and out.
