As usual plan immediately went off the rails as baby #2 arrived early. Other crew was not exactly helpful in schedule, our boss didn't really change their portion but had some choice words to say and one immediately went into "oh I don't feel good, I don't know if I can make it." Which essentially pissed him off more. So Mercurial (!) basically had to calm him down.
Somebody else perhaps because of the previous evening decided to have their own bit of drama. I made one sort of "what the hell?" gesture and then it was just coldness the rest of the night. I'm sure a couple others probably think I was being too harsh but really I don't care about their opinion. I don't take anything back, but it was probably a mistake to think that I would regret not trying to be closer and more importantly not having that "tell me what is going on, something feels wrong even though you keep saying you're fine."

Sometimes I think my last job spoiled me. My boss was an ass sometimes but the actual job was basically "arrive, get stuff done, leave." Meanwhile my current job has me stuck here for 8 hours a night regardless of the amount of customers or work. It may be easy money sometimes but it's not exactly fulfilling.

It sounds like my latest backup night clerk is on his way out already and my weekend has gotten cut short again. I was trying to think how many other backups we've had in the last year and the ones I could name all got fired for different reasons.
I'd say good help is hard to find but I've been told I'm a rare bird myself.

Might not even be what was being hinted at earlier but some shit definitely went down. One person is reportedly already out which kind of made their last bit of banter moot. It sounds like a couple others are making noises. One I'm kind of whatever, seems decent if a bit too eager to try and please everyone I guess. The other would be disappointing but if they have been part of the problem then my opinion of them would immediately drop like a rock.
There was a mention of somebody trying to come back and even higher up but that sounds like wishful thinking. As it is there's one who will probably end up helping and probably argue it should be theirs to lose but past history may backfire. the other could use it, but their other obligations make it a harder sell (and they may have eyes on the other spot if it turns out to be true). I think I'm going to have to consider throwing my hat in the ring too.

Finished my first three shift block since vacation. Ouch. When you go a month without doing the amount of physical labor you normally do in a week, it's very noticeable and painful when you jump right back into it. When I got home today I pretty much passed out after dealing with a massive leg cramp. Not just a cramp, but one of those crippling ones where I think being shot would actually be less painful. When I felt it coming on I tried to make a mad dash for the last can on tonic water in the fridge but only made it as far as the stairs and had to force myself down them. I have never chugged a can of anything that fast in my life. Literally within two minutes I could feel the quinine working. Made it to bed and passed out for nearly eight hours.
When I was on vacation the wife of one of the guys at work wrote his car off in an accident so now he's desperate for overtime to buy a new one. In his four years there he has never been called in once for the on-call. So he asked me if I was still offering the $50 for people to take my monthly on-call. Of course I am. Actually throughout my vacation I won $90 on lottery tickets so actually had cash right in my wallet for him. So at least my March on-call is gone and possibly next month as well.

I know those - they result in the Fire Pro "limb break" roll 😳 I didn't know tonic water helps with those. I think bananas do too for the potassium. Sorry that your vacation is over too but hopefully the nicer weather will help offset it 😎

Yeah, the problem with these leg cramps is that they are so bad eating anything during them would be impossible. At least with tonic water you can just chug it. My dad gets the same type of leg cramps and it was actually his doctor that told him the quinine in tonic water will actually prevent and stop muscle cramps, so he buys it by the case. I started using it too. After a workout before bed I used to mix a can of tonic water with orange juice and chug it as the cramps almost always occur in bed.
EDIT: Yay, just got rid of my April on-call.

Yeah, that's a good point. During those types of cramps, I usually just have time to bargain with an eldritch god to make the pains stop. The thought of competently eating something is out the window.
I've woken up to those things before and it's like a poltergeist is f*cking with me.
I never really understood tonic water on its own. I figured it was a mixer for gin provided it was that kind of tonic? (it wasn't the kind of tonics I buy with GP at Items stores) But now I see a whole new usage for it!

Meh, got "Volun-told" my crew would be working the Easter Holiday night shift. Would have had a four day weekend if we weren't working it. Only good spot is we're getting the Holiday premium bonus which is even larger on a night shift, so that'll be a pretty nice bonus on the paycheck.

I'd be pretty screwed if they ever ban caffeine but other stuff seems to be either impractical or comes with annoying drawbacks. Particularly of the gastrointestinal variety.

I was ready to write about Derpy's fall from grace and how I hoped that maybe this last offer could be the wakeup call they need. But then they had an idea for somebody to take their spot that's not even wrong. So now I'm hoping their new boss isn't going to fall for the same crap.

With other things coming to light I can see how Derpy must have seemed like the chosen one in comparison to the usual "I'm back LOL!"

It took longer than it should have but another problem out the door. I don't know how much of this month's shenanigans were on them but oh well. As it is somebody else took some heat but really, they got stuck trying to write out a last minute offer and get it in the system.
Which leads to the next- the new group means well, but it sounds moot without a corresponding software upgrade. Which already has its "wait, so are we just being too specific or do these other places not give a damn?"

I suppose it could have been one last parting gift but this last batch of "oops" was just mind-boggling. I'm sure part was just a lazy copying over but it became "well, that's what it says, so go ahead."
As it is we may well have to "this is what's set, it's your job to make it so" later this month, especially if there's no new minions coming in for the summer.

This was actually back on April 1st, but when I showed up to my shift people were coming up and telling me that my old problematic supervisor had shown up on March 31st and put in his retirement papers and that April 1st would be his last shift. Since it was April 1st (April Fools) I just thought people were trying to mess with me as we had gone through several potential retirements with this asshole over the last 9 years. It turned out to be true and he didn't even show up his last day. I think because when people found out he was leaving, he may have expected a chorus of people he had fucked over for years coming up and "wishing" him a happy retirement. I simply would have told him, I hope that he got everything in retirement that he had coming to him, and left it at that. First thing I did was text Jeremy and let him know since this is the same guy who retaliated against Jeremy and helped in his firing.
Although when the company is short on employees, one thing they do is offer retirees the chance to come back and work as contractors. So it's entirely possible if his health holds out, he could show up again as a contract worker some day.
Two guys on my crew who retired in the last couple years were both approached at their homes about coming back to work. One guy laughed in the supervisors face as he had also been a victim of his harassment over the years and the other went into his house, brought out his old work clothes and set them on fire in his driveway and said there's your answer. I don't blame him. After my last write up (the one where Jeremy got fired and I got written up) I went home and any shirt, hat or jacket with the company logo on it, I burned and still to this day refuse to wear the company logo.
I'll have been there 9 years in September. The same month my written warning for taking 3 breaks instead of 4 comes comes off my file. The funny thing is, it's actually common for people to take 5, 30 minute breaks a shift instead of 4 at 20, 30, 15 and 15. Also supervisors are ignoring the headphone and tucked in shirt policy as well. I've been seen by my current supervisor with earbuds in a dozen times now and he hasn't said anything. I always keep my decoy work buds with me just in case though.
This company used to be a premier employment location in the area for decades, but the management has let that slip. We're getting a new plant manager in a couple months so things can get better or worse.
Every summer we hire on summer students to help cover for the fact most employees book vacations in summer. This year we actually had a whole group of summer students walk out. Minimum wage has gone up and the company hasn't matched the wage increase and students aren't too keen on giving up weekends and working nights at manual labor all summer for the same wage a cashier is getting. We also had a supervisor quit spur of the moment. Said he couldn't take working there any longer and had a job lined up at Purolator and just walked out without giving notice.
I'll likely be staying unless the lottery ever comes through for me. I actually think my old boss from the Apple plant I used to work at is interested in hiring me as I live near him and whenever he sees me out walking he asks if I am still working where I am.
He knows I'm a good worker from the years I worked under him. He actually quit the Apple plant and got out of there years before I did. He runs his own farm, but he is also involved in a malting plant that just opened up in our area and I think he may be involved with a massive marijuana grow-op being built a five minute walk from my house. Legalized of course. Pot is legal in Canada now for anyone who doesn't know, and farmers all over are getting into the grow-op business as retailers can't keep the stuff on shelves. They've built a massive warehouse and have their planting field fenced off with high chain-link fences and an impressive camera network installed all over it.
Honestly though, if things ever go bad for me where I am now. The first thing I am going to do is go knocking on the door down there with a resume.
