The battle cat story is my favorite. But yeah the whole series was basically some guys bullshitting there way into toy deals and then just turning whatever idea they had into a character (as you would imagine with a lot of those characters). I think I made a mistake watching it first. I watched the gi Joe one after and it on its own would have been a fine story but after the craziness of He-man it just didn't measure up. So I haven't watched any of the others wanted to watch the Lego one but didn't want to be bummed by it not having the fun goofiness of he-mans origins that I couldn't watch it. Me too! Star Wars was first, then masters, then gi joe, which was a cool story, but it felt tame relative to the wild Wild West of masters of the universe!

I watched the He-Man episode of Toys last night and LOVED it!! 😁
Wow, I wasn't expecting to get all that insight about how the series was created. From the unexpected origin of Skeletor (and his awesome original look) to the crafty way the toy line makers came up with the TV series, that was all gold. I kept rewinding it over and over again to see all the figures too. You know that old joke: "It takes you two hours to watch 60 minutes?" - it took me like an hour and a half to go through this episode because each moment was like concentrated He-Man awesomeness.
This is a must watch for any He-Man fan or any fan of 80's action figures in general.
I'd love to see something like this for Thundercats.

Yeah, a thundercats one would be great! The Kenner Star Wars one is pretty bad ass, too. Real opportunists that had the foresight to capitalize on what they saw could be something special, and even to have the balls to do what had to be one of the first pre-orders ever done (they sold a piece of cardboard with pictures of the characters before they even had real prototypes of figures!), and the way they made prototypes to pitch for the contract was just pure hustle and ingenuity. It’s a really interesting watch! And don’t sleep on the Barbie one, those women were hustlers and crazier and more cut throat than Mattel’s guys were.
As good as those were, the he man one is still my favourite, it’s just such a crazy story of the combination of luck, stars aligning, and bullshit hustle!

It takes giant brass balls of hustle to leverage a TV show, just thought of in that very moment, in order to secure an action figure line with the biggest retailer. These guys had the f'n power, all along. Pure initiative. And some of those sets were pricey too. Did you see the Eternia set? It had a f'n monorail!! Look at those schematics, LOL!These guys weren't just garden variety hustlers, they were top of their game!

YES! I saw a hype video a few months ago that made this look awesome! Violence looks Ninja Scroll level.
I need to check out Eps 1 and 2.
Oh man, there's just SO much to watch right now.
I especially love how there is so much excellent anime to be found 😎

Interesting video on the backstory of Vampire Hunter D from the novels that wasn't shown in the film.

^Dick Togo HAS to have taken his name from Golgo 13, right?
In any event, Golgo 13 is old school cool and somewhere in towards the top of my favorite anime characters list.

He has to have taken that name from the legend, if he didn’t, he’s a damn fool! Yeah, Duke Togo (just that NAME alone strikes fear and awe into the hearts of pleebs everywhere!) is also a favourite manga character, just behind Kenshiro in first place (Jubei Kibagami, Captain Harlock, and Astroboy tied for third!), what a stud! I wonder if I have a huge eyebrow bias when it comes to bad ass manga characters? That figure is pretty sweet though!

Oh believe me, I've seen them as well as the figures for Berserk and Hellsing. Fortunately I don't have any places to display them at home because I do know if I started buying them I wouldn't be able to stop at one and their prices can go as low as $100 and as high as $500+. That particular Golgo 13 figure goes for $200+ brand new on ebay.

Finished the first season of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, the soft reboot of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes series.
The new coat of paint is fantastic. The updated visuals make the space battles even more epic. The main problem and reason why it doesn't hold up to the original series is how brutally everything is condensed. Season 1 of Die Neue These cuts so much content and character development from the original that it's basically glossing over really important stuff to keep the story moving. An entire story arc from the original series was literally cut to half an episode. Losing out on all the backstory and character development definitely lessens the impact of the monumental cast and seeing important things cut out is infuriating and many cast members reduced to standing in the background like cardboard cut outs.
I've also been watching a lot of Hunter x Hunter amv's and following story development news from the manga so I'm getting an urge to go through that series for a third time. Another amazing series like Legend of the Galactic Heroes I completely disregarded until I started watching it and was completely hooked a few episodes in by an expansive amazing cast of characters.

So I just found out Dark Horse Comics has been publishing Lovecraft adaptations in Manga format with volume 1 of At the Mountains of Madness just released and volume 2 coming early December. A quick Amazon search shows a few more Lovecraft graphic novel adaptations are available as well. Might have to start getting these.
EDIT: Put my order in for the Mountains of Madness v1 and v2.

Wow, Lovecraft mythos in manga form? That sounds really cool! 😎
Let us know how the first one is when you get it!
Also, we don't really have a US comics thread but I don't know how much traction it will get. So I'll just mention it here. I have been paying some attention to recent news and reviews discussing the X-Men comics reboot. It sounded interesting so I went ahead and ordered the combined "House of X/Powers of X" comics in one book. Probably the first time I bought a U.S. comic in decades. I was a big Marvel fan in the mid 90's (particularly, X-Men stories) but didn't keep up with it. The new story lines, particularly the way the "reboot" occurs, interested me and I wanted to check it out. Looking forward to reading it all 😎
