This is because the game uses texture atlases (to put all textures on one sheet) and then they bake the light mapper results right onto that atlas instead of using a second sheet. So they whole arena can be drawn in a few draw calls. It stretches out near the edges because you don't see it 99% of the time, and it keeps more texels (or texture resolution) for the inner arena so they are crisper. This is especially important for the shadow resolution.

Oddly though, Yurk is the only one of the venues in the game where any part of the textures does that sort of stretching, and it's also the only venue that doesn't project any shadows at all around the ring, they're just drawn right onto the texture image instead.

It just means the person doing the texturing for that arena decided to map the texture UVs that way. It's shaped a bit different than the other arenas because it has no ramp. The floor is tesselated instead of being 1 big piece. The center part is layed out to take up the most texels. The outer polygons are mapped to take up less, so they appear to stretch. I made an example here. I have a 1:1 image to mesh here, but I mapped the vertices further out on the distant polygons to prioritize the texels in the center.

The rampage continues! At this point I'm just trying to do every goddamn venue I previously thought was impossible before I figured out this forced perspective bidnezz. Take your edits out on a shopping spree at the mall! Oh my god PM me the textures to that. That looks awesome!!

Finally got to sink my teeth into the new city gym textures and dudes it is beautiful to finally have some halfway decent walls to work with. For my first two gym skins, I've made a high school and a punk rock club!

Those are tremendous! The little touches make those live, especially the standup of the Greatest of All Time on the first and the Plasmatics poster on the second. Gotta love that.

Those are awesome, though I wish I could see the details more clearly. Trying to zoom in on my phone is so blurry.
Liking the Rancid/Pennywise poster. Those were early favorites for me when I was first getting into punk rock. Also spotted the Ramones one (they're a must).
Do I see a GBH one as well or am I wrong?

There is indeed a GBH poster in the corner, actually TWO Misfits posters, and a good old ZEKE that I made sure to put in a prominent place as they're one of my all-time favorites. That was the most fun part of making that venue; collecting posters from all my favorite bands to decorate with. It was like I'd bought some sort of Fire Punk Concert Promoter DLC!

Alrighty dudes, as I'm sure everyone else has been doing recently, I've been on a logo-making spree to take advantage of this feature none of us ever knew we wanted but as it turns out kicks quite a bit of ass. Really ties the edit select screen together. It only occurred to me to start adding drop shadows to everything about halfway through, so.... screw it.
