This looks interesting! I wonder where we will be able to watch it (especially in Canada)?

I watched Werewolf by Night last night, what a cool surprise. I knew nothing about it going in, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. I loved that it was less than an hour long, it had a cool vibe to it, and “Ted” (not the bear…) needs its own movie. Looking for a quick shot of something quite different from everything else out there right now, check this cool little film out! 🐺🌕

Me too!! I also really enjoyed Werewolf by Night! The fighting was far more brutal than I expected for Disney. A little annoyed that one particular fighter went down so easy given his skills with a katana but I realize this wasn't "Kendoka by night" 😅 I got really good "classic monster movie" vibes from it - it helped that I watched it at 2 am 😄

Gave Bullet Train a try. I rarely watch modern movies any more, but I was bored and looking for something to watch. I remember seeing the trailer for it and thinking it looked stupid. I actually ended up liking it quite a bit. I know it's based on a book so when I get my audible credit at the end of the month I will pick it up.
I would totally watch a prequel movie about the White Death or even Lemon and Tangerine.

So I kept seeing a film in my Netflix recommended list, and I kept thinking “maybe I’ll start this one today”, and kept putting it off (thanks to Andor and Reservation Dogs), so I finally broke down and watched it this week. The film is RRR by S.S. Rajamouli, it’s an incredibly sensationalized story about a pair of Indian men whose paths collide, one, a man focused on climbing the British colonial police ladder to gain access to weapons to fuel the revolution of independence from their British occupiers, the other, a tribal man trying to bring home one of his people that was kidnapped by high ranking British officers simply for entertainment and curiosity. The two men on different paths meet and become close friends while secretly trying to attain their goals, and in the process, must betray each to fully accomplish their missions.
First of all, if you’ve never watched an Indian movie, there is no separation between telling serious story, displaying violent scenes, or any other traditional story developing movie practices, and busting out into a huge, intricate dance and song routine. This movie does this, it’s great and full of energy. The whole time I was watching this film, I kept thinking “it’s so corny”, but i couldn’t take my eyes off of it. This is a great, very ENTERTAINING, NON-PRETENTIOUS, display of film making. So many cheesecake shots of the actors, but it really is a beautiful, over the top, fun, and at times, heart wrenching movie. The Brit’s are portrayed as scumbag occupiers, so if that’s going to put you off, skip it, but you’ll be missing a really fun, gorgeous, if not a bit corny film. Please give RRR a chance! 😁

Old Henry - Take the first five minutes of No Country for Old Men, add a dollop of Unforgiven, stick it into Oklahoma in 1906 and you get Old Henry. A nice little low budget Western that I wanted to like more. It has a great setup, solid acting and a gritty tone that lends a strong feeling of realism...but the second half reveal feels forced and unnecessary, the film makers adding an element of cheese that undoes their earlier good work. Still worth a watch, Tim Blake Nelson is excellent. 7/10
The History of Future Folk - A duo of aliens in Brooklyn with a doomsday device abandon their mission when they discover music and form a bluegrass band. Quirky indie stuff here that makes up for its lack of budget and experienced leads by being just as charming as heck. Even the scene with the guy stun-gunning the lady cop so he could serenade her paralyzed body seemed hilariously innocent and sweet. The music is also surprisingly good...apparently Future Folk is a real band, who knew alien bluegrass was even a thing? 7.5/10
Cocaine Bear - A bear on cocaine goes on a murderous rampage. When the bear is killing people, it's a pretty fun time with lots of novelty gore. However, when the bear isn't killing people the movie grinds to a halt. A pretty solid cast is mostly squandered on a formula script that offers zero surprises or interesting characters. It also kinda wastes its mid-80s setting by failing to reference or mention it after the first 5 minutes. A decent attempt at neo-Grindhouse that falls short of greatness. 6/10
Big Night - For some reason I was under the impression this drama about two Italian brothers running a restaurant was a comedy, and was expecting the titular Big Night to blow up in a huge farcical climax. Instead it was basically food porn, where a well prepared meal is the panacea for all life's ills, and even a simple omelette can reinforce the bonds of family. It's got a great cast and an intelligent script, but it falls firmly into the category of "not really my thing". 7/10

I’ve been vocal about gaming sites and their lack of actual gaming reviews (focusing on some stupid personal agenda and/or self aggrandizement), but this piece from Polygon about John Wick is actually pretty decent. It also somewhat parallels Bret Hart’s comments about the current state of pro wrestling in a way(I.e. lack of reality based content, the idea of people who know what they’re doing taking the lead, practical effects versus fantastical, CGI laden stuff, less is more type thing), something I wasn’t expecting to find here, and only noticed because I’d just read another of his “out of touch/no idea what he’s talking about”, old guy “get off my lawn” articles[/facetiousness] 😂 www.polygon.com/23658403/john-wick-box-office-success-future-movies

Finally got around to watching Wakanda Forever, I think, like everyone else, I’ve got MCU burnout. It’s a pretty movie, the costumes are incredible, Angela Basset looks incredible as always, but the story was a bit throw away to me. Yes, it tied up the origin of the new panther, yes, it schilled the new Disney plus series character Ironheart, but it just didn’t jump out as an important story. That said, I love the reimagining of Namor, the Mesoamerican theme is great, I find all of that material so under appreciated and under represented, so this change for the character was cool for me. I really only watched this movie to see the new Namor, I’d love to see a solo film for him.
Anyway, want to turn your brain off and see some okay action, tske this for a spin.

The Gentlemen - It's a Guy Ritchie crime movie. It's got lots of flashy editing, plenty of snappy dialogue and more charismatic rogues than you can shake a stick at. The framing device of Hugh Grant telling the story was unnecessary, but there's enough twists and turns along the way that it stays engaging throughout. While it doesn't quite live up to the standard of Ritchie's earliest work, it's a fun time. 7/10
Frankenstein Created Bikers - The Impalers motorcycle gang are back in this sequel to 2011's "Dear God No!", a 2 hour long feast of low budget, lowbrow goodness. A gory, sleazy homage to 1970s grindhouse flicks and EC comics, it's got a mutant, mad scientists, a one eyed dominatrix, immortal bikers, topless assassins, a priest with a chainsaw and Bigfoot. Obviously a passion project made by people who are genuine fans of exploitation cinema, and not just trying to cash in on a trend. *looks suspiciously at Cocaine Bear* 7.5/10
Amazon Hot Box - I approached this film with trepidation. I'm a fan of James Bickert's previous exploitation homages, and this was his attempt at a women in prison movie, a staple of the genre. While some parts of this work well (Jett Bryant's laconic, smooth talking redneck is a highlight), a lot of it comes across as kinda weak. They either needed to crank up the sleaze to 11, or play the whole thing way more goofy. The "incredible torture machine" was not nearly as cool as they clearly wanted it to be. 6/10
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - A pair of thieves put together a crew to rip off a former accomplice who had betrayed them. After many terrible attempts, someone has finally figured out how to make a Dungeons & Dragons movie that doesn't just suck all the fun out if it. Hits a pitch perfect tone throughout, and features some pretty good action and CGI effects. Add in a group of likable characters that are all fleshed out just enough to be invested in their stories, and this was a blast. Wouldn't say no to a sequel. 7.5/10
65 - Adam Driver crashes his spaceship into prehistoric earth and has to survive on a dinosaur infested world. It's a simple setup that allows the movie to bounce from one action set piece to the next, and although the film isn't particularly memorable, it's engaging enough throughout to entertain. A decently enjoyable way to pass 90 minutes, no more, no less. 6/10
John Wick: Chapter 4 - I said in my review of John Wick 3 that the bar had been set disconcertingly high for Chapter 4. Instead of trying to top Chapter 3 in terms of quality, this installment just gives you WAY more of the same. Keanu, Donnie Yen, and Hiroyuki Sanada are all fantastic, but as the fight sequences tick past 20 minutes in length, it becomes apparent that the (very talented) filmmakers are running out of creative steam. Hopefully this is the end of John Wick's saga, and we see them try something new. 8/10

Just watched Evil Dead Rise. For fans of the franchise, there's nothing you haven't already seen before, yet accessible enough for watchers who aren't familiar with the previous instalments.
Though, I will recommend watching the movie Nefarious. Watched it on a whim with my girlfriend, and was blown away by the acting. The actor playing the convicted killer takes the cold and calculating antics of Hannibal Lecter (no relation), and turns them up to 10 on the insanity meter. Even if you aren't a fan of possession movies, the acting alone is worth a watch.
