Well, Godzilla vs Kong was kind of fun
As usual with Godzilla films, the bits involving human plots were nonsensical and cheesily written but the fight scenes were pretty great. The animators did a remarkable job with those.
6/10 (though the action alone was probably a 9)

I banged out a few movies over the past couple of weeks, all on Disney plus (my significant other caved) and all “blockbuster “ types.
Avengers endgame: I didn’t like this one as much as the one previous to it, but it was okay. I had high expectations since I liked infinity war so much, but this one kind of slid back into that boring formula of the other entries. Thanos seemed like a pussy in this movie, he was so bad ass in the last one. Oh well, I made it through, it will be interesting to see where they take things from here.
Star Wars IX: I didn’t hate this film, I know it got a lot of flak, but pissing and whining about things seems to be a global sport these days. Abrupt, rushed feeling, typical Star Wars tie off, but fun action and great music, I’ve suffered through way worse, this was a fun one.
Captain Marvel: Samuel Jackson saved this one for me, still overall a fun watch, Brie Larson has one expression and is a bit tough to get into as the hero, but this was still enjoyable and I’m interested in seeing a sequel.

A few weeks ago the wife and I watched Coming 2 America. The nostalgia was strong and the cameos made us both mark out.

Wow, I’ve been going around saying I’ve seen office space, but apparently I hadn’t actually watched it. I must have done one of my classic crash out as soon as the movie starts things, because I definitely saw it for the FIRST time last night. What an incredible film, wow. I feel lucky to legitimately love my career, I know what the opposite feels like, but like any human, find myself struggling with existential issues, just feeling like why is this prime of our lives as humans grind necessary when we should be spending all of our time becoming the best us/humans we can possibly be? So yeah, the start of the film resonated with me. This was a lot of fun, anyone who missed it, or thought they saw it and slept through it, check Office Space out!

Mortal Kombat (2021) Different story, different characters (sort of), same result as the old movies. REALLY fun action and even some neat effects (as well as some really cheesy ones). Bad story with some even worst acting at parts. I get it. Most of the people playing the characters are stunt people and not actual actors but damn, it was hard to listen to in spots. I will say though that as much as I detest the prominence of Scorpion and Sub Zeron in the games themselves, both actors portraying them in this movie really hit it out of the park. They were by far the most interesting thing in the movie (it certainly wasn't the plot or the new lead character) and again, not a fan of the characters in general.
5/10

The next installment in the Resident Evil CGI movie franchise. I think this is number 4.

I just watched Army of the Dead. It's a zombie movie that literally does a beat for beat replay of Aliens even using some bastardized lines. I guess it does for the zombie genre what Predators did for that franchise. But it did succeed in making me want to boot up World War Z again and play that until Back 4 Blood comes out. I guess Zack Snyder wants to make it a franchise. Seeing how Wes Anderson and Milla Jovovich successfully scammed millions out of their ridiculous Resident Evil franchise it was only a matter of time before someone decided to capitalize with the same formula. Red Letter Media did an excellent review of the movie as well showing that it actually steals from numerous movies aside from just Aliens.

Wow, that is one of the best trailers they have made so far for either of the two new movies!! I don't want to provide any spoilers beyond what the video showed but just three reactions:
1) The fighting in this one looks more brutal than in the 3 movies beforehand which is completely in line with the manga for various story reasons. That kill right before the rain scene was perfect.
2) I'm REALLY glad they kept Tomoe's "you really make it rain blood" line. It's one of my favorites from the entire series. Interesting they kept the "really" part in for this trailer as that's a key word in that sentence.
Tiny wrestling-related spoiler from the manga the movie is based on. Not sure if this will actually happen in the movie itself but it's kind of a funny little side comment that isn't actually story related. That guy at the 1:23 mark is in the manga. He delivers an absolutely brutal axe bomber to Kenshin that made me mark out. One wouldn't imagine how that would factor into a fight against a sword-wielding samurai but it's worked in pretty nicely. I hope we get to see it in the movie but I am doubtful. The portrayal of the character in the movie appears to be thinner and generally smaller so I don't know if he'll rely on the same fighting style. I really can't wait to watch these two final Kenshin movies. I think they will be the best of the live action ones. I liked the first 3 but these final 2 look even better. I know they are coming out on Netflix in Japan but I don't know if that deal will apply to the US. HBO Max got the rights to the Kenshin series a year or two ago (and it left Netflix). My guess is the similar license will apply here.

New Dune trailer
I very rarely get excited for theatrical releases anymore and if I even watch five in a year of release it's pretty rare. The last movie I actually saw in a movie theater was Sin City 2. I'm actually looking forward to this; it looks like the first adaptation of the book to do it justice.
Casting seems much more appropriate, especially Dave Bautista as Beast Rabban, who is supposed to be terrifying in the books but has always come off as a buffoonish henchman goon in the film and TV adaptations.
Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho finally does that character some much needed justice as well.

Just checked out a movie on Netflix called Upgrade. It’s a bit low budget, but it’s still pretty well done. It’s a pretty decent revenge story in a self described cyberpunk universe. I won’t give any spoilers in case anyone is interested, but I will say it was a fun film to watch with some pretty cool ideas! Check it out, but hurry as it’s set to leave Netflix after July 31 (in Canada anyway).

That actually reminds me a lot of a Shadowrun story, except instead of a cyberware AI it was a spirit that a quadriplegic allowed to possess him and as long as he and the spirit are bonded he can control his own body.
Anyway, I keep checking Amazon hoping they will finally have the listings for the last two Kenshin movies so I can preorder the blu rays, but so far no listings. I have found myself a non blu ray copy of the first movie Kenshin: The Final and am still looking for Kenshin: The Beginning but I'll keep checking Amazon for the blu rays.
