Sticking with the “why haven’t you seen this legendary movie” theme, finally saw This Is Spinal Tap. Pretty good stuff, the songs and the stage stuff are hilarious, and the performances by Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Christopher Guest, and even Rob Reiner among others were great, and perfectly captured the stereotypical, flakey, egomaniacal attitudes of hair metal bands of the past. They even threw a fictional yoko ono parallel in there! Glad I finally checked it out, pretty great stuff, but I’m not as over the moon about it as most reviews and fans of the film would make you think you should be. Good to see a work that has had such an influence on pop culture, and one that is credited for starting the whole “mocumentary” genre.

Hah, I love Spinal Tap, I actually wore out a VHS copy of it back in the day by watching it so many times.
In fact, I just watched it last week with a friend who had never seen it, and so much of it is still very very funny. Timeless stuff. The bit with the bass player getting locked inside his pod during the Rock N Roll Creation song had my buddy in tears.

That poor stage hand trying to get him out, even used a torch... I liked the Stonehenge thing, too, that epic prop descending to the stage from the rafters! Now for some reason I want a really small sandwich. 🙂

Endgame was solid.
I think Infinity Wars had more action and more funny moments (which I liked) while Endgame was more dramatic, emotional (for a Marvel movie) and more character driven (a big achievement considering the amount of characters in this one). Kind of sad it's an end of an era.

Isn't it Romantic was legit as fuck. Everyone should see it. I've considered seeing that movie. Was it funny (or at least relatively funny)? Also what's the plot exactly (the commercials I saw for it didn't make that quite clear I don't think).

Its the one where the chick hates romantic comedies and then wakes up inside of one.

Both of those Takashi Miike flicks are pretty badass. In fact, most of his movies are worth checking out....except for Gozu. Gozu sucked :P
A Serious Man - A vicious pitch black comedy set in a Jewish community in the 60s. On the surface it's a very funny movie about a passive loser whose life falls apart, but the deeper meaning is somewhat cryptic, which no doubt alienated many viewers. On one hand it presents a savagely bleak view of the universe, with man drifting alone in a rudderless and inexplicable void. It also gives us a modern day retelling of Job, where Job's faith wavers slightly and he is immediately destroyed by God's vengeance. Brutal. 8/10
Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse - Kingpin opens a dimensional portal, resulting in several versions of Spiderman from across the multiverse joining forces to stop him. The animation is great and the visuals become quite intense during the action sequences....the tone is light and fun, and the voice acting is very good. Bonus points for the inclusion of Peter Porker, Spider Ham, whose comics I used to devour as a kid. Probably the best film version of Spider Man to date. 7.5/10
Hail, Caesar - Superbly entertaining if light and breezy trip through the day to day life of a Golden Age Hollywood studio manager. Brolin is commanding and in control of everything, even when his subordinates continually throw curveballs at him. The shadowy presence of Communists contrast nicely with the absurdity of a cowboy actor getting thrust into the unfamiliar world of sweeping dramas. Channing Tatum's flamboyant dancing sailor scene was an absolute scream, and probably the highlight of the film. 7.5/10
Intolerable Cruelty - A divorce lawyer going through a midlife crisis falls for the gold digging ex-wife of one of his clients, with the expected disastrous results. The plot is not as labyrinthine as other Coen scripts (Marilyn's long con is pretty obvious from the jump), and the two main characters are fairly despicable, making it hard to care about them or their potential romance. However, this one is more about the journey than the destination, and there are plenty of funny bits along the way. RIP Wheezy Joe. 6.5/10

I liked both of those movies as well, enjoyed (just don’t tell my mom 🙂) Ichi the Killer, but EASILY the most f’ed up movie I’ve seen of all time is Audition. The premise of what the main character and his friend are doing is greasy as shit, and the content is messed up. I don’t even recommend the film to people I know unless i think they can handle it and are real movie fanatics that might appreciate just how depraved a film can be. I have to finish Hail Caesar! I started it a while back but got distracted, thanks for the reminder!

Audition and Ichi are also excellent. If you dig Miike, definitely check out his Dead or Alive trilogy, Deadly Outlaw: Rekka and Izo.

There's a movie I've been thinking about on and off the last few years that I'm pretty sure I heard about through someone (possibly Deni?) on Warena back in the early 10s, and I've been trying to find the name of it again.
Basically it was a documentary about a group of 30-somethings that decided to put a band together and play a ton of shows on the road while trying to get a chance to play on one particular stop of the Warped Tour (or similar) as their final destination.
Trying to Google it has led me nowhere. Anyone know what I'm talking about? 'Cause I don't think I imagined it, even though I only saw a trailer for it back then.
