It's been a while since the last time, but I noticed it was playing so I just watched The Blues Brothers again. If you haven't seen this film for some reason, like, say, I don't want to watch some old shit from 1980 like I did for a very long time, do yourself a favour and check it out. Amazing music with amazing cameos by music legends (Cab Calloway, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, etc), legitimate funny shit from when SNL had some actual solid material and wasn't just resting on its laurels like it does now, Carrie Fisher as a lunatic, homicidal jilted bride (my favourite role of hers, she was great in this!), Sister Mary Stigmata, the floating, ruler wielding penguin, and some of the most amazing car chases and crash scenes you will ever see in ANY film (I can't imagine what the car budget was for this movie!). Great stuff, get over yourself if you have any "this movie is too old" hang ups and treat yourself!

As a massive fan of the blues, jazz, old school R&B and such, there's nothing better on film. And I'll add that anyone who reflexively turns down past movies/music/wrestling simply because it's not modern is limiting their perspective and cheating themselves out of some great experiences.

The Blues Brothers is one of those movies that I am genuinely surprised when people say they haven't seen it. Given its age, popularity/cult status, and frequent airings on TV over the last 30 years, it's just one of those things that I presume most people who actively watch movies have seen.
But yes, excellent movie that's pure musical fun.

The Blues Brothers is a perfect film. My go to answer when somebody asks what's my favorite movie. In fact, I'm going to watch it again.

They wrecked over 100 cars during the shooting of the Blues Brothers, which was a world record at the time.

I think I remember hearing that the sequel deliberately crashed the same amount plus one more just to top their own record, but I don't know if anyone else has topped that since. EDIT: I should've just Googled it. www.wizzle.co.uk/2016/07/22/movies-destroyed-cars/Looks like Transformers 3 destroyed a whopping 532 cars. Unless someone else has topped that since mid-2016.

The Hudsucker Proxy - The massive Hudsucker Corporation replaces its deceased president with a dork from the mail room in a ploy to manipulate the stock prices. The tone of this film is very much like a fable, nothing quite meshes with reality and the characters are all more like caricatures, giving the whole thing a slightly unsettling feel. Still, Tim Robbins is great as the bumbling but well meaning rube, and Jennifer Jason Leigh steals most of her scenes with her fast talking career girl/femme fatale schtick. 7/10
The Dirt - Cheesy biopic charting the rise, fall and rebirth of Mötley Crüe that feels like a much less funny remake of This is Spinal Tap. The scenes of over the top partying get old very quickly, and the film plays fast and loose with much of the history (though they did an admirable job of visually recreating a lot of the band's most famous moments). The real highlight is Iwan Rheon's laconic and acerbic portrayal of Mick Mars. Not a great flick, but worth a look if you're a fan of the Crüe. 5.5/10

I could talk a blue streak about the Hudsucker Proxy. Again, I have an unshakable bias toward the Coens so take it for what it's worth, but I think the film is extremely under rated. A deliberate throwback to the snappy dialogue films at the time, with cool Cool Hand Luke references WITH Paul Newman (one of my favotire actors, another bias)
I mean as far as snappy dialogue, it's the Coens at their snappiest to that point. God damn I love that movie.

I'm a big fan of noir films as well, those are generally jam packed with sassy broads and snappy dialog. A friend and I have been watching our way thru the entire Coens catalog since the release of Buster Scruggs, and we are almost done. I had seen a bunch of them before, but somehow Hudsucker had eluded me until now. I did enjoy it, but don't feel like it measured up to their best work (Fargo, Lebowski, No Country, and Miller's Crossing, which also had it's share of awesome snappy dialog).

I consider myself a Coen bros fan, don’t know how I haven’t seen The Hudsucker Proxy yet. This is the kind of shit you discovered perusing the selections at video stores back in the day! It’s so odd now as films stay in theatres for just a short time, then they disappear into the aether to be forgotten. So now, unless suggested by someone or you happen upon it in Netflix, you will likely forget about stuff you want to see. Glad posts like this are here to help me find more Coen stuff to check out!

A Coen Re Watch is one of my favorite things to do.
I also have a bias, it was my first Coen Brothers film I ever saw. They remain my all time favorite film makers so I have a soft spot in my heart for that movie. Is it as good as their best, not even close. However I would rank it higher than most, but I am unapologetic in my love for them all.
You know, for kids.

Kinda surprised it's taken this long, to be honest.
