The first DLC character for Strive dropped today. Of course, I had to give him a try.
lol I'm bad at Strive part 33: Dick
I don't see myself changing mains any time soon but he's pretty fun.

lol I'm bad at Strive part 34: I don't like blonde May
May mirror-matches are a nail-biter. May doesn't have strong defensive tools, but her Mr. Dolphin attack means she can be in your face at any moment. Like an old-west gunfight, it's all about who blinks first.

lol I'm bad at Strive part 35: How do they find me?
At this point I could practically call this series "Bullying I-No." I don't know how all these I-No players keep finding me or why they're all so easy to beat but I find it vastly amusing.

I loved that. The balls on that man to say that on a Capcom stream lol.

Welp. Something in the latest patch broke the Replay feature I've been using to record my matches. Some of the matches play back correctly, but some of them are completely, wildly wrong. Unfortunately, all the matches I had tonight, the replays were bad, so I won't be uploading a video tonight, but S omething has Happened.I'm sure I'll get kicked out immediately but, uh, wow. I did not expect to even get to this point.

I think I've managed to figure out a way around the replay bug, but it's pretty tedious. The problems don't seem to set in until you've done a few matches, so I was able to get some decent replays by restarting the game after every set. Not something I want to keep doing if I can help it.
lol I'm bad at Strive part 36: A Divine Trickster
After each match, Strive rates your performance on four categories, Offense, Defense, Technique, and Heart, and it gives a brief blurb describing what sort of player you are. The one I get most frequently describes my playstyle as "A divine trickster." I'm not sure what that manes, but given how many of my wins involve intentionally screwing with my opponent by doing things that are risky, gimmicky, or just plain illogical, I'll gladly accept it.
Also, some potentially big news coming down the pipe about possible DLC characters. Guilty Gear Strive uses three-letter codes to refer to each character. Remember how I said the premiere defensive/counter character in Guilty Gear, Baiken, wasn't in Strive? Well, dataminers found a bunch of stuff added in the latest patch labelled "BKN". The devs are calling for you, Geese.

Of course, Baiken isn't the only defensive, counter-focused character in Guilty Gear. Spoilers: I'm really not good with this guy.
lol I'm bad at Strive part 37: Mr. Mito's Wild Ride
I spectacularly fail to actually demonstrate it here, but a decent part of Anji's game plan is his twirl: He's invincible while twirling and can usually, with decent spacing, throw the opponent immediately after the twirl. He also has a badass counter super. You can see me completely whiffing it on nothing at the end of the first round.

When you and your opponent are thinking the same thing but both of you are incompetent, you get....
lol I'm bad at Strive part 38: Roman Cancels Deserve Love
This is one of those ones I'm posting specifically because it made me laugh.

Sometimes you have an off-night. Unfortunately, my off-night coincided with my latest Celestial Challenge:
lol I'm bad at Strive part 39: Celestial Screw-Up
To get into the Celestial Floor, you have to pass the Celestial Challenge. The Celestial Challenge is a series of 6 matches against players already on Celestial, of which you must win 5. If at any point you lose two matches, your challenge is over. This is the closest I've gotten, with one round won out of two matches.

Wow, thatβs humbling. You held your own Rd. 1, but you got honky tonked pretty good the last two, that was relentless pressure! I love that character, looks like cartoon John Goodman carrying around a casket he stole from Lemmy or Marilyn Manson or something. Thanks for sharing, the competition at that level looks stiff! π

Goldlewis is a pretty great character. I love his visual design. This guy, on the other hand...
lol I'm bad at Strive part 40: Sol Worstguy
Sol Badguy is the main character of the Guilty Gear franchise, and apparently the devs behind Strive decided that meant he should have higher damage than everyone else, faster moves than everyone else, and a larger toolkit than everyone else full of invincible reversals. There are some good Sol players but the vast majority I run into are not very good because they depend on their character rather than their skill. That'll get you a lot of wins when you're just starting out, but it doesn't work very well against people who know what they're doing. As I demonstrate.

Sounds like Sol Worstguy (LOL at the name) is the Ken Masters of Guilty Gear.
Ugh, the amount of mediocre, over-aggressive Ken's I faced over the years is staggering.
There was this one Ken player I went up against and I still remember this like it was yesterday. It must have been 15-16 years ago though since Capcom vs. SNK 2 had been out for a few years. I was playing in an arcade against the CPU. I don't remember my full team beyond a Level 2 Geese but it didn't matter as you'll see.
So this guy joins in and picks a level 4 Ken. That meant his team was ONLY Ken but he was stronger since he was a Level 4. First thing that happens is that he attempts a jump kick. I saw it coming and used my high atemi nage special counter to easily defeat it and send him down. THAT was the rest of the match π€¦ββοΈ
For whatever reason, he could not wrap his head around the fact that my high counter out-prioritized his regular jump kick. He just kept doing it over and over again. No fireballs or empty jumps/rolls to bait my counter.
I ended the match with the Raging Storm since I had full meter. It was beautiful π Either all he knew was jump kicks (a weird move to exclusively know) or he just refused to accept the reality in front of him. In any case, he just burnt his one Level 4 character by refusing to try anything else. My guess is that he didn't know SNK characters so well and thought my counter was a fluke...10 times in a row π
It was like watching someone hurl themselves up against a brick wall until they passed out π€·ββοΈ

A lot of them just mash out Sol's DP, Volcanic Viper, all day, or hit a super if they have meter.
