Installing/Transfering Fire Pro Wrestling and ModPack to Steam DeckNot sure if this qualifies as "creative" but I like having all my tutorials in one spot and hope it isn't an issue. Anyway, I just got a Steam Deck and its pretty damn cool. If you’re a noobie like me, it can be a little daunting trying to figure out how to install Fire Pro and maintain all of those really cool mods that you use on the PC for a Linux based system. The process is actually pretty easy and not overly time consuming (depending on how big your files are), but worth it if you enjoy the game and want to play some Fire Pro on your Big Black Deck.
**Disclaimer**: The Modpack is NOT officially supported by the creator and is not programed to work natively for linux. If you attempt to go to the Modpack discord to solicit help, you will be met with opposition. To be clear, there is no official location for support. I am simply offering a basic tutorial on how I was able to cleanly move my entire Fire Pro Wrestling World save (with the Modpack) to my Steam Deck, with minimal effort. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but I can’t guarantee to be a help as I too am a Linux noobie.
**Disclaimer #2**: I am not responsible if you screw your game files or Deck up. I HIGHLY suggest, as always, to back up your game files before attempting to move files to the Deck. if you chose to ignore this disclaimer, you do so at your own risk.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
All of these steps for the Deck are completed in Desktop mode. I have not attempted to play with the Modpack on SteamOS and I would not suggest trying unless you want to deal with the Modpack Window.
1) Locate your Fire Pro Wrestling World folder on your Windows PC
Most of you will find the game in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fire Prowrestling World or
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fire Prowrestling World – or something of the sort.
Mine is in located in:
D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fire Prowrestling World as seen below:
2) You can either copy these file to a thumb drive (by using a USB/USB-C or USB through docking station) or you can choose to use Warpinator and Winpinator like me. I found this tutorial on Steam Deck file transfers very helpful:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2GBqz13Sok This should not be a complicated process.
3) By the time you manage to transfer the files to your deck, you should be in Desktop Mode (Steam Button > Power > Switch to Desktop). If not, do that now.
4) Open Dolphin (Linux file viewer) by clicking the start button, going to All Applications and then Dolphin. Dolphin should also be docked to your taskbar by default if you want to access it from there.
5) Navigate to
home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/commonCut or Copy and Paste the
Fire Prowrestling World file that you transferred over to the Deck to this file location. If you downloaded other Steam games, they should also be in this folder.
6) This might sound backwards, but you will now “download” Fire Pro Wrestling World through Steam. What Steam should be doing at this point is not actually downloading Fire Pro and your workshop items, but instead validating all of the files you moved over to the installation folder. This process can take a while, so give it some time – grab a snack, and come back in 10-15 minutes. I suggest leaving your deck plugged in and if you have a docking station with a wired connection, this should allow the to process move faster.
7) Once Steam finishes validating all the files, Add a Non-Steam Game and select
PWGR Patcher.exe from
home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Fire Prowrestling8) Right click
PWGR Patcher.exe, and select properties. From the Compatibility Screen, select Proton 7.0-4. You do NOT need to do this for Fire Pro Wrestling World, just the patcher. This executable file is not meant to run on Linux so Proton is needed.
9) The last step that I needed to take was to manually enable all of the same mods that I was using on the PC through Linux, by using the Patcher as if it’s the first time. Launch PWGR Patcher.exe from Steam, select all of your applicable mods, patch the game.
10) Run Fire Pro Wrestling World and…PROFIT! Please note, the only things not correctly working for me (so far) are:
a. Nameplate, names, subnames, and logo placement on screen have to be repositioned
b. If you’re an ArenaEdit buff like me, you need to edit the .csv file locations to ensure your custom textures load from the right location (see my tutorial on how to use ArenaEdit for more information).
All of the other components that I use (alternate attires, belts, etc.) work. If you have anything to add to this guide that would be helpful for others, feel free to let me know and I will expand it. Enjoy, cheers.
