Storm finished off a sweep in the WNBA finals to claim their third championship. Reminder that no other team in Seattle even has -two-.
WNBA team is clearly the superior in the city and nothing can be said against it.

You know, the Royals may only be at 51 wins on the season and with 96 losses, seem almost assured to hit the century mark there, but they're still out there every day trying to win games and tonight's walk-off grand slam by franchise cornerstone Salvador Perez is testament to the fact that this VERY young team has a winning spirit, even if the actual talent isn't developed there yet. Here's hoping they keep up their strong finish to a difficult season and make it a better 2019.

Speaking of baseball, the season's almost at an end and while most fans are paying attention to close playoff races in the AL West, NL West, and NL Central, I'm wondering about how the hardware haul is going to go.
In particular, I'm wondering if a phenomenal pitcher in the NL can win the Cy Young with a losing record. Jacob DeGrom of the New York Mets has an absolutely ridiculous, video-game like ERA of 1.71 through 29 starts and 195 innings this season. Unfortunately, the New York Mets aren't a very good baseball team and he receives the 3rd fewest runs in support of EVERY STARTER IN MLB. At 8-9 on the season, his record is very unimpressive but the sheer stinginess of runs allowed (only 37 Earned Runs in all of those innings) as well as an equally insane WHIP of 0.95 means that he's just not allowing many baserunners at all, i.e. the ultimate goal of a pitching performance.
Despite having one of the best seasons in recent memory, the "win" statistic still matters a lot to the people who decide those awards and even though most of his 9 losses were in games where he gave up two runs or less. For reference, in those 29 starts to this point, he's given up exactly 3 runs (the minimum that can be allowed for a "quality start") just 4 times, all in games that were tabbed as losses for him. The ONLY game this season in which he's given up more than 3 runs was a 4-run outing at the beginning of the season.....that he didn't get a decision for. Those other 5 losses on his record were all appearances where he only gave up 1 or 2 runs. His other 11 "no decision" appearances were games where he gave up 0-2 runs.
While 2x defending NL Cy Young winner Max Scherzer of the Nationals has had a routinely phenomenal season and will "probably" win his 3rd straight award (and 4th overall), I think it would be a tremendous disservice to DeGrom's effort to snub him of the award because his teammates didn't score runs for him. No pitcher in history would be more damned by the futility of his teammates than Jacob DeGrom in 2018.
As much as I love Mad Max (MIZZOU-RAH!RAH!RAH!) and think the Phillies' Aaron Nola has had a great season, Jacob DeGrom is the best pitcher in the National League this year and it'd be an absolute embarrassment if he's not honored as such with the Cy Young award in November.

Not only is the cage gimmicky and kept MMA in the dark ages even longer because of the perception of it, but it and the UFC ruleset favour grapplers way too much. No strikes to the back of the head, no knees to a downed opponent, walls to rely on. The ring has better angles for kickboxers and a more even playing field imo.
Cage has more space which is generally a good thing for strikers. They also tend to be able to work more linearly.
Allowing more ground strikes favors the guys who get into those positions more. There's a reason you see Randleman and even Fujita dropping knees, Shogun doing soccer kicks, or even the one guy I keep forgetting who basically Rolling Thunder/Koppou Kicks into guard.

1. Congrats to Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge on not only setting the new world record in winning the Berlin Marathon but also on taking more than a full minute off of the previous record. That large of an improvement on the record time hasn't been seen in 50 years. Pretty amazing run from the reigning Olympic Marathon champion who has also won the London Marathon earlier this year.
2. Congrats to the WNBA's Seattle Storm on winning their third WNBA title. Led by league (and Finals) MVP Breanna Stewart, the Storm's 3rd title (all of which 38 year-old PG and Naismith Hall of Fame lock Sue Bird has been a part of) puts them one behind the Minnesota Lynx and the defunct Houston Comets for most titles in league history.
3. Congrats to the Cleveland Browns on winning their first NFL game in over a year. The fact that it was led by the debuting #1 overall draft pick this year may or may not be pure "coincidence" but for the first time in 20 or so months, the "Factory of Sadness" is closed for holiday.

After KID Yamamoto earlier this week it's known that Glenn Robinson, founder of the Blackzilians, has died as well.

Congratulations are most definitely in order to Old Dominion football. Despite being a bottom 10 football team for a few years now and working with a backup QB, they managed to defeat #13 Virginia Tech 49-35 at home.
Arguably, this is a bigger upset than when Appalachian State defeated Michigan all those years ago.

^most definitely That's honestly why college sports can be so much more fun than the pros. For every lopsided Bama blowout, there's some underdog team playing it's heart out against a program 2-5x its size and renown. They don't often end that particular way but it certainly makes waves when they do. And now for something completely different...... Meet the new Mascot for the Philadelphia Flyers Phillie Phanatic, you are no longer the biggest freak in Philadelphia sports! xD

That new mascot is most definitely a swing and a miss. They do know this is Philly, right? The city that booed Santa?
I'm surprised kids go to Flyers games considering the idiot city fanbase.

Hey ya'll, fuck the royal rumble mod. Khabib vs. McGregor ended with a bruhaha between both corners inside and out of the octagon.
This is WWE levels of absurd.

Yeah that was utterly ridiculous and embarrassing and really overshadows what was one of the most thorough dissections of a "legend" that we've ever seen

I know McGregor is by no means an angel in all of this with all the shenanigans that happened before the fight was really a thing, but that doesn't excuse Khabib and his crew for losing their minds and jumping McGregor's crew. could result in a title strip and some serious visa issues. Just a total shitshow.

I can only imagine how scary of a team the Jacksonville Jaguars would be if they actually had a QB who didn't destroy 90% of his brain cells partying all the time and plays like a complete moron.

Hey now....
Yeah, he kind of sucks without Fournette back there to grind the D.
I mean the Chiefs defense....struggles....but they had 5 takeaways from him today and that wasn't just because of the weather.
