The Detroit Lions have agreed to trade quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for QB Jared Goff, the Rams' 2021 3rd rd draft pick, and the Rams' 1st rd draft picks in the 2022 and 2023 drafts.
It's kind of a big deal since Stafford (the Lions' starter for the last 12 years) has long been considered a talented player stuck on a poorly run franchise and the Rams were "probably" some healthy/competent QB play for seriously contending for this year's NFC title (Goff had been inconsistent throughout the season and then broke his thumb, missed one game, then came back when his replacement was injured in the playoffs). Goff's 2nd and 3rd seasons in the league were quite impressive and suggested that he would become the Rams' franchise QB for years to come. For whatever reason, he hasn't had the same production the last two seasons.
It's a scenario where I think Stafford wins for getting a much needed change of scenery, the Lions win for their haul of picks AND a 26 year-old QB who can possibly turn it around somewhat (though it will be difficult since.....poorly run organization), the Rams potentially win IF Stafford proves to be the gut that can get them over the hump and can actually deliver in the first chance of playoff success (0-3 in his NFL playoff career, all Wild Card appearances), and Goff most likely loses because he needed to find somewhere to turn his career around and Detroit is usually where careers go to die.

The only thing though is that Detroit basically has to eat Goff's contract so they'll most likely continue to struggle, but at least they have a bevy of picks to either rebuild or package Goff again to the Texans for Deshaun Watson.
This will be a critical moment for Stafford to prove his detractors wrong. He's behind a great defense and a very solid receiving corps so they're definitely expecting him to take LA back to the Super Bowl.

Today's featured article is a guy named Lil Stoner. That sounds more like someone's rap name than the name of an old time baseball player. It doesn't help that he was referred to as a "smokeball artist" either.

I am as far from a baseball fan as you can get, but THAT was a crazy play and some ballsey running! 😎 Yeah, wow, I love that play! 👏 The 1st base runner played a perfect distraction for the 3rd base runner and then somehow got to second based on how flustered the defense was. That was hilarious and pretty smart too. I like how the first base runner never gave up on the play. You figure there's only one way to go in his position but he was really clever in sacrificing himself for the guy running home and then finding his own opportunity. That's fighting spirit right there 🔥

I've been watching the Indy 500 routinely for almost 20 years now but I didn't watch today's race because, well, life.
Anyhow, I really wish that I'd have seen because one of the guys who made me a fan of the spectacle in the first place made a bit more history by tying the record for most wins in the race. Good show Helio.
